Everything that you said here is very true. But that doesn't also excuse the other players for not doing things that could have changed the outcome; such as yelling out that Mo was chasing him, trying to call a timeout themselves, or playing better defense to close the play out...not to mention their play during the actual overtime.

McHale was as close to the play as possible and standing during the entire thing. A better coach would have saved his player from the mistake since he saw him being chased from behind...and ran on the court to call timeout.

No one can take the blame for Jeremy's mistakes, but he isn't the reason that other people also didn't step up and do what THEY COULD DO.

Lin cannot be subbed in for the final 5 minutes of a critical game. He is not plug-and-play.

However, if he's warm, he can be left in (at relatively reduced risk).

As another poster said, its probably for defense.

Still don't know why McHale didn't call his own timeout. He was standing right next to the referee! Players do what they do.. And f#&# up. The coach should have enough sense to see when the players are in trouble and DO SOMETHING about it.

    Bad thread.

Parsons was calling for the ball because he saw Lin was in trouble not because he wanted to spark a fast break.

Maybe some teammates could have told him (or did) "yo watch behind you" but the blame lies with Lin.
Parsons was wide open 10 feet in front of him and he didn't recognize Mo right behind him.

You always gotta know where the defenders are before you start dribbling up court.

McHale obviously can't run as fast a Doc Rivers, so there is no way he could have called a time out

How does it make it a bad thread because his analyzation is not correct? a bad thread would be the one that's titled "**** lin" and in the thread the post is "discuss"

Live by the fast break. Die by the fast break.

There were ~2 seconds of Lin dribbling before the steal.

Nobody on the bench is signaling for a time out during those two seconds.

By my calculations, Lin made arguably 5 errors in 15 seconds. That's 1 error every 3 seconds. I do like Lin and think he's played pretty good this year, but you simply can't do these things at the end of playoff games that are on the line.

Can you name another professional athlete who made this many critical errors in just a few seconds before?

    What the L?

    Worst.
    Thread.
    Ever.

Lin was in for the defensive possession over Daniels. That is it.

In 1 play a player who is in for D, takes you from 2-2 to 1-3, then perhaps such threads aren't unreasonable...

So he ran with the dribble because he wanted to not get trapped or get put in a tough situation. Oh man Lin. You had an easy out. It's call a timeout.

To the OP, thanks for the pic by pic... it does show a few things (as usual, we aren't a smart defensive team is what it show). Your assumption that Lin tried to run a fastbreak is wrong as he stated above what he was trying to do.

When derek harper dribbled the clock out because he thought they were up, no analysis. When zeke threw a bad pass vs boston ,no analysis. When a guy makes a terrible, panic turnover, no need to analyze it. Its not his fault the rockets lost, but he made the absolute worse mistake you could make. That's all.

    1. Go find out for yourself IF Mo Williams stepped out of bound for that alleged TO.

    2. Ask how McHale himself did not call for a timeout when he claimed in retrospect that was the game plan.

    3. Ask why the other 4 players did not even move when they saw Mo Williams sneaked BEHIND Lin for an intended steal.

    4. Ask why the other 4 players did not call time out themselves.

    5. Ask why the coach of Houston Rockets threw ONE SINGLE PLAYER (Lin)
under the bus while excused the rest of other players on the team.

    6. Ask yourself if you have been fair to demand a perfect performance
from a bench player (Lin) while your superstars are not getting the job
    done.

    7. Ask why Lin did not get the credit for bailing out
Harden's TO in game 3, while no one blame any players for not doing
anything while Lin's (alleged) TO was happening.

    8. Ask why the Houston Rockets personnel, fans, and media targeted Jeremy Lin for every aspect of his games.

Haters, please do not bother to reply to this post if all you could
write is none but hatred. The truth is there for those with the courage
    and intelligence to see it.

I can translate any Jeremy Lin video you'd like for a small fee:

    Jeremy Lin is
    1. Not to blame
    2. Put in a position to fail
    3. Actually the star of the game
    4. Coached poorly
    5. Discriminated against

I blame Lin, for sure. It was a boneheaded play.
But come on, what the **** was McHale doing? You have a clearer perspective than anyone else on the floor. McHale should have been making the decision to call timeout, not offloading more responsibility onto his players.
