Everyone has said something inappropriate at times. I think what he said is incredibly stupid but what's next monitoring trash talking.

I would do some research and see how the public feels before reacting. My personal belief is donald sterling's personal life is pathetic but I don't want to go down the slippery slope of recording people and setting them up. for every jackass they bust with this they also bust a million innocent people.

You're missing the point. No one is advocating that every private conversation be recorded. As it stands, the state of California requires the consent of all parties in order for a conversation to be recorded in the first place, regardless of the conversation's content--one of eleven states that follows such a practice. If Sterling's conversation was recorded without his permission, whomever recorded it broke the law.

And I reiterate that no one is suggesting conversations should be recorded. The point people are making is that regardless of how or why Sterling's comments came to be public knowledge, they are wrong because of the attitudes that they convey. That others have made inappropriate comments doesn't excuse Sterling's behavior.

If anything, Sterling's station in life as the owner of a professional sports franchise is precisely the reason why he should have avoided making such insensitive comments in the first place. His feelings about minorities are incompatible with his having ownership of a team composed of mostly African American players, something he should have realized before opening his mouth.

This is how atrocities against innocents start. Make policy against sterling then go after a million innocent people.

Once again, no one is suggesting that any and all private conversations be recorded. And no one is advocating that any action taken against Donald Sterling be repeated in the event that other citizens make a similar mistake.

People want Sterling removed as the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers because his behavior--both recent and past--raises significant concerns about his ability to relate to the African American players and coaches who work for him. No one is advocating that the NBA's investigation of his comments be used as the basis for the passing of laws or regulations allowing taped conversations to be used as evidence against other citizens.

As I've stated previously, it is because Sterling is the owner of a professional sports franchise that his comments have received so much attention. If he were living in trailer park in rural Georgia, no one aside from his family and friends would pay his comments any heed. That his conversation was recorded is beside the point, as he's not the subject of a criminal or civil investigation. The NBA is an independent organization that may take its own actions against anyone whose behavior compromises its product and has absolutely nothing to do with any far-fetched hypothetical policies our government may adopt, something that seems a remote possibility.

Where Have you been the past 15 years? under a rock. Government doesn't abuse it's power, DAs and cops don't lie. I don't like sterling but I rather put up with him than the paranoia that someone is making up something I said in a conversation or recording me over the phone to advance their career or get something.

Not at all. It is a big deal when someone of Sterling's stature makes such inappropriate and ill-timed comments. Even President Obama has weighed in and encouraged Adam Silver to find a quick solution to this matter, precisely because he knows the potential for harm that Sterling's comments represent.

President Obama needs to focus on trying to keep some of his campaign promises and turn the economy around.

I'm sorry this issue is too complicated for you, though I'm not surprised given that you'd prefer to live in a society dominated by ignorant people like Donald Sterling because you're worried the United States government may be spying on you.

I doubt his taking a few minutes to address the Sterling situation will significantly impact his ability to do that. If the fate of the United States economy is dependent upon our President utilizing a mere five minutes of his time more efficiently, it's likely the problems of said economy are beyond his ability to repair.

I gotta start wearing all my shirts backwards starting tomorrow. But no V necks since that's too easy. Only a crew neck will do, since it will choke me slightly making me feel uncomfortable- which is the point, and the tag will scratch my throat.

Your being attacked by law enforcement has absolutely nothing to do with the NBA's investigation of Sterling--a matter that is completely separate from and independent of any alleged covert activities undertaken by the United States government--nor does your being acquainted with others who've suffered similar setbacks.

And I resent being called an idiot by someone whose demonstrated that he's incapable of properly arguing a subject--choosing instead to resort to personal attacks and name-calling as a means of proving his own misguided theories about how Donald Sterling's comments represent 1984 come to life.

    Must be a racist.

To show my support, I removed my shirt when I walked in to the lobby at work today and laid it on the floor of the elevator.
