It is sickening that the gun manufacturers through their defacto lobbying group the NRA are twisting the 2nd Amendment and causing such mass slaughter.
So, you are saying that the NRA and gun companies are causing these mass shootings? Yeah it has nothing to do with people being crazy and doing this on their own. they are supported and backed by both the nra and gun companies
Other societies have folks who go psychotic. The difference is they have not allowed the organized gun manufacturing lobby to set the agenda so these crazy folks can obtain automatic weapons for mass slaughter. The NRA is subisidized heavily by the gun manufacturers On a totally different level the gun issue is along with gays, immigrants, mar1juana and other issues used to get poor and working class voters to support the 1%.
Tell that to Israel, Pakistan, and other mid-east nations, along with Africa, Russia, Germany, Ireland. These countries have had mass killings without a single fully automatic weapon being used. People are going to kill people if they want to. Nothing you nor I can do about it unless we completely rid the world of materials to construct weapons. Good luck with that
Well the tobacco industry set the agenda for putting a lethal product in the market for many years. Through education and law suits the industry has been much more controlled. Of course one can go into a group and slaughter many with tobacco. Second hand smoke is finally being controlled to. The successful education wrt to tobacco gives me some hope that we can educate folks about guns and overcome the industry and lobbying groups llike the NRA.
I was tempted to say Nice try", but not really. The typical mass gun slaughter in the US is not so clearly a hate crime as the Milwaukee Sikh massacre. Most are disturbed folks who have gone psychotic or snapped due to work or school stress. Bombs used in terrorism and civil wars are not applicable and clearly different. Though guns kill IIRC 45,0000 Americans a year it would be too much of a stetch to label the lobby's results a civil war or terrorism.
The NRA wouldn't have pull in Washington if not for 3+ million members, and they are politically active and politically engaged. Look at what happened to Democrats after Clinton banned semi automatic rifles with certain cosmetic features. The GOP retook the House.
It looks as if Georgia is cleaning up some of their gun laws and removing a lot of nonsense. I believe these are some good changes. What is nice about GA conceal carry is that you only have to fill out a form for background check, pay your fee and send you a license. No pesky courses to determine that you understand conceal carry laws...which doesn't matter since you can pretty much carry it anywhere. http://www.nbcnews.com/news/investigations/what-georgias-extreme-new-gun-law-allows-n87491
It is sad that American has to be the laughing stock of the rest of the advanced world because of the gun nuts and their interpretation of the 2nd Amendment.
5 million members. Painting the NRA as an arm of gun manufacturing is plain wrong. Their funding and power come from their extremely active membership. The evidence is in the legislation. In 2004 the Assault Weapons Ban was very close to being renewed instead of being allowed to sunset. Manufactures don't care about this ban because it didn't change their business in a large way. The NRA was offered a deal where the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act would be passed but the Assault weapons ban would stay. The NRA rejected this.
Bars in Texas are businesses that get 51% of their revenue from alcohol sales. CHL holders are not allowed to carry there. The issue I see is drinking and carrying is specifically criminal even if you have a CHL and there is no allowed limit. If you blow a .05% and are carrying, you just broke the law. So if you are a designated driver and go to a dance club, even though you are not drinking you cannot carry.
This is nonsense. The NRA is heavily intertwined with gun manufacturers, vendors, and any sort of training.
Heavily intertwined? The NRA is about 25-30% funded by gun manufacturers and sellers, the rest are individual donations, membership dues, etc. That's about as low as one gets for a lobby.
The firearms industry is a tiny mouse compared to the real financial powers in Washington. What makes the NRA such a political beast are their 3+ million hard core single issue voters, and they do vote, and they have long memories.
