I have a hard time calling Clowney an amazing player when he admitted to relying mostly on athleticism. That athleticism is going to be minimized at the next level, at least by a little bit. If you move him all around, he will have to learn nuances of each position. Mario Williams already had a spin move and a decent bull rush coming out, if I remember correctly. Clowney will take time.

And then, even if he is that good, you have to pay him and Watt. That's about 30% of your cap, as a conservative estimate. Now, who's going to be your quarterback?

Those are a few of my issues with taking Clowney, besides the fact that he doesn't seem like a Texans type player (Manziel really either, but moreso to me than Clowney).

What other positions would you play him at besides OLB and DE? DT? MLB? Lol. At OLB, he might rush the passer okay, but can he drop into coverage? At DE, he will be small, and his inside rush game would probably be minimized. I just don't know how he fits here....

LOL okay well let's take this in parts.
    1. I'm fine with you having a hard time, but it doesn't change the fact that he's the best defensive prospect coming out of college since Peppers.
    2. JJ Watt is moved around, yet he doesn't seem to have a problem with nuance.
    3. You don't have to pay Clowney for 6 years....Watt might not even be in the league then for all we know.
    4. The question about QB has absolutely nothing to do with it at all.

I wouldnt really worry about the cap situation...we are a long ways away from that point.

Clowney will have a reasonable contract for 5 years. After that, we can franchise tag him, for what, 2 years if need be? That's 7 years before we'd have to even give him a monster contract (If he is, in fact, a monster player). At that point in time, JJ Watt will be a 10 year veteran and most likely, not going to be requiring a 25 million dollar annual salary.

If Clowney is as good as advertised...and having him pair up with the current best defensive player in the NFL, it's certainly worth spending that much money on that combo, because they would be a devastating duo.

And if Clowney isnt as great as advertised, but still a good player, then that really doesnt affect the cap situation very much.

    1. I understand that, I'm just skeptical. I've already stated why. I'm skeptical of how he fits here, mostly, less so of his talent. I think my reasons are fairly valid.
    2. Yes, and that's why Watt is so great, and there are not many players like him. He is a technician, and Clowney is the absolute opposite. Kind of my point. Doesn't mean Clowney can't learn, but it will take time.
3 and 4. I'm sure Watt will be (hopefully), but I'll give you those.

I think Goodell is of the same mindset and will move it up next year. ESPN has exhausted all the discussion and the anticipation is dying off.

Mr J.R., "IF" you start another poll before the draft could you please include "trade the pick" as an option.

I'm sure I'm one of the few, but I hate that flat bill look on Hats and hate the look of that bill just in general.

    Awesome hat.

The deep steel blue's darkness really makes it look swanky.

I don't know if I like the lip portion with all the blur and white Houston.

Maybe all silver lip would look better.

As it's already been stated multiple times, the problem with the trade back option is that everyone is willing to trade back at a certain price. Unless you include a hypothetical package in the poll, the trade back option shouldn't be in the poll.

They've been throwing around "rumors" of what the Texans "could possibly" get in trade. This year's 2nd round pick and next year's first round pick seems to start the conversation. So using that platform _ trading the pick should be an option.

We should separate our discussions into who we think the Texans SHOULD pick vs who we think they WILL pick. For some people it might be the same but I think for most it won't be.

You should start a thread. I think this thread is mostly about who we think they SHOULD pick...
