Absolutely the Rockets should go after Carmelo if he is available.

    Carmelo solves these problems
    1) 3rd star
    2) Allows the Rockets to have duo of Harden/Howard/Carmelo/Parsons on the floor at ALL TIMES. No scoring lulls. (early 2nd quarter, early 4th quarter)
    3) Outside shooting with BIG GAME pressure experience
    4) Helps in execution / half court offense late in games
    5) Ability to play with other stars - Olympics
    6) Stretch PF. Opening up the court for everyone.

Can Carmelo bang with stud bruiser PFs? It would be a challenge, but that is only 1 obstacle and many other positive elements to him being on the team. And remember, those same banger PFs that Carmelo has to guard, THEY have to guard him. How quickly could Carmelo get those guys in foul trouble by taking them into space and driving?

Morey wouldn't trade Harden for anyone outside of LeBron/Durant/Paul/Davis.

We need a coach. The coach comes first.

Have you followed how brutally bad the EC is? The WizardBullets have a good shot at being in the ECF's.

Carmelo - go to chicago -> automatic berth in ECF's next year.

Carmelo - go to Rockets -> maybe see if you can make it out of the 1st round

Putting three ball-hoggers on the floor together? What could possibly go wrong?

He hasn't proved capable of going through a whole playoff game as the guy yet.

I think Morey's first call this offseason should be to Minnesota. Offer Parsons, Asik, Jones, picks, salary filler for Love.

I'm doing this even without an extension agreement.

Then offer the full/partial MLE to Shawn Marion, Trevor Ariza, or Danny Granger. Dump Lin for whatever you can get and let Canaan play as the backup and/or find a way to get Llull over here.

it is not just that Melo is mentally weak. The bigger problem would be only one ball on the court.

This would be my exact process as well.

Parsons and Jones have great youth and "potential", but are clearly too young, and too flawed. They're shiny enough that Minnesota might like the package, and frankly I think would actually improve, Kevin Love's loss aside.

Forget Carmelo, how can we get Chris Paul and Doc Rivers? Paul supposedly said he was coming to Houston if the Clippers didn't get the deal done for Doc Rivers this offseason. If Sterling would have said this crap during last years playoff run we might have CP3 on the already.

There is no question that Kevin Love will be the #1 target, but Love might not be as available. He is under contract and Minny ownership doesn't seem willing to move him, though they will get burned because he will leave them in 2015.

Carmelo, however, IS available as a FA. If the Rockets can get him, they HAVE to do it. They can't just bypass that opportunity and HOPE that Love will be available and will choose Houston (there will be may other suitors). Take the bird in the hand.

Morey limited his roster moves to "save space" for that 3rd star. Once he gets that 3rd player, that opens things up for Morey to use the MLE on other bench guys that can add depth.

No. First of all you're giving up too much for a fake superstar. Second, he can't play defense. What makes you think he'll be able to guard Aldridge.

I suggest you go take a good look and watch kevin love play. You will see he does not command a double team, can't play defense and most of all can't create his own shot.

I think most people are just so enamored with his stats, they fail to actually look at his impact in the game.

What happens when Aldridge has to guard Carmelo out on the floor? And what happens when Carmelo attacks the basket and gets Aldridge in foul trouble and is on the bench?

While I'm not necessarily against going after Melo I think we would be better served going for a PG upgrade and better 3pt shooters off the bench or a real stretch 4.

I'd still be interested in C. Anderson for Asik if still available. Plus if Lowey wants out of Tor ,and the Raptors get scared they may loose him to a team with the cap space to sign him outright, you may be able to get them to agree to a S&T. Something like Lin, 14' #1, Euro stash and D-Mo. Then you still have the MLE to play around with either for our international stashes or other teams FA's.

Like I said I'm not against Melo. I just think a few "super role players" might be a better fit with Harden and Howard then adding yet another scorer.

I don't hate the idea. We'd have to give up parsons for sure though. I think that drastically changes the composition of our team to a more half-court type of offense. I do like that he's durable. Hasn't missed but 2 games his whole NBA career. Also from what I understand his D is meh.

Anyone know more about his game?

I think before going after Melo I would hire a new coach and then go get Rondo. This team doesn't need more scoring. It needs someone who can run plays and calm the team down in crunch time. Harden and Howard would still get their shots because Rondo would dish it to them in the right spot. I would love to get Melo or Love but before adding those guys I definitely would add Rondo because he has been there and won one so maybe just maybe Howard and Harden will follow his lead. Melo and Love don't play defense...which is one of our big problems as it is. All I know is there definitely needs to be a change to this roster. Garcia, Casspi, Hamilton, Lin, and Asik are probably not going to be here next year. We need to fill out our bench with players who can actually ball. The only player on that list I would love to keep is Asik but at the price that we are going to be paying him, we just can't afford it. We need to trade him and Lin for whatever we can get. Hopefully we can get Rondo with Lin and Asik. At this point I would be willing to trade Parsons because I think that we will have to pay the guy big money. I have heard that there are teams that might be willing to offer max money to him. If that is the case we better let him walk. There is no way we should pay him that amount. I love him to death as a player but again he just isn't worth it.
