Is Les more concerned with interest in the Asian market or actually winning titles? If you want to increase the value of your franchise, the quickest way is to put together a successful team. He's approaching 2 decades of futility with this franchise. And not to knock the city of H-Town, but the fact is we're a fickle bunch when it comes to sports teams. If you don't give us at least something to root for, we quickly lose interest. If you don't believe me, look at the Astros' attendance today vs. 6-7 years ago. Look at Texans games this season vs. last season. And look at the lower bowls of Rockets games the last few years.

Morey is also preparing Les to give the go ahead to get rid of Lin next year.

Even if it costs him money.

Morey should have stood his ground on Dragic. It's also Morey's legacy he should be thinking about.

Niether here nor there. Dragic is no longer a Rocket, Lin is.

GAME FIVE. That's the only thing that we have right now.

This wouldn't be surprising. It was pretty clear that Les was hungry to get Lin back, while I don't think he's the kind of player that Morey would be particularly eager to get.

On another note, all the Rockets media say paying Lin 8 million is fairly standard for an average player.

That isn't average at all, that's like Jeff Green kind of money.

There were a couple of times on radio where Morey said they took a gamble and went all in on signing Lin but I don't remember the context as clearly.

I sincerely hope though that Dwight's opinion on McHale has changed after playing for him for an entire season. Maybe he doesn't want Stan Van Gundy here, but I hope he's open to a coaching change of some kind.

Morey, while we're at it, I'm really starting to dislike our two superstars also--Harden and Howard--seeing as they cannot really carry their team in games that count.

uhh, can we re-do the team again? Keep Troy Daniels and the Viper guys. Keep Asik, DMo and TJones. Let's build a young hungry team that will make me proud to be a fan.

Not this spoiled, immature, gutless team that we're trotting out as the Rockets.

    I want a fresh start.

The Rockets have holes at PG & PF. They also need an alpha to rein in Harden and who will execute what the coaches want.

It's finger pointing time, and I am pretty sure that Les held Morey's hands to come up with that poison pill.

Getting Lin wasn't the end of the world, as we went to playoffs that year. But giving him that "poison pill" contract is the big road block for next year. Well, at the time, I didn't know that poison pill was actually poison for the Rockets.

I always figured the way it played out was that the Rockets(not sure if it's Morey or Les or both) didn't want that 4th year player option for Dragic and then when he bolted for Phoenix, they were left with literally nothing and got desperate which led to the Lin signing. At the time we all thought the Rockets looked like a top lottery team and Lin was just a pathetic attempt to generate a little bit of interest among fans before they embarked on their 60+ loss season.

Thanks for the info. What I assumed. Morey wanted to win games while Les was hoping to sell seats. Now we're stuck with this scrub for another season

And then watch Lin go onto a different team and put up decent numbers and the whole cycle continues again.

Not questioning the authenticity of any conversations Cyberx is having with people in the org, & I do think its interesting stuff, but the timing is just funny on both of these reports. (sort of feels like poking at a bruised rib).

I think it paints a picture of a very frantic front office & coaching partnership when really these issues have been there all along if you put 2 and 2 together.

Yes - it would seem obvious that Les really made the push for Lin back 2 years ago, and yes it would see pretty obvious that McHale is using Sampson leaving as an excuse for the lackluster defense. I think when/if McHale gets a chance to re-interview for his job this Summer, his sales pitch will probably be, all will be fine if we add X coaching guy to our staff to be the defensive coordinator.

All things considered, the Lin contract really hasn't been anywhere close to the burden that many of the contracts other teams carry that keep them from acquiring star after star. If Les told him to get Lin, Morey obviously said only if we can get him on a short term contract which was obviously smart to do and shows there was some compromise. It happens, and if the Lin contract is the worst one Morey ever signed, I'll take it. He actually had a good year last year, and has bright moments every once in awhile. Its McHale's job to not play him if he's hurting the team, and play him in spots where he can help.

Anyways, thanks telling us what you are hearing. Not questioning you, but I find the timing to be a bit like poking an open wound with a rusty nail.

Whenever someone gets in Morey's way... bad **** happens. Just let the man work. I like Les Alexander a lot, it's hard to find owners as committed to winning as he is and I know we could have much worse. But Dragic, JVG, the "no-tanking" mandate that almost lead to Gasol/Nene...

    Just let the man work.

I'm not sure Morey would have given Dragic that option but I highly doubt Lin would have been a priority target.
