probably needs another thread (needs to be in the D&D!) but you're right. There is a double standard here...

You do understand that an out-of-context quote is still out-of-context even if it's in a stupid red and giant font, right? The context of what he said was specifically about his girlfriend bringing black people to the game and thus *associating with him*. Not about black people in general being at games.

If Sterling is still the owner, I hope Rivers leaves. I also hope Paul and Griffin force their way out. Let the Clippers fade back into their deserved irrelevance. Never forget that David Stern and "basketball reasons" gifted national relevance to Sterling in the first place. Also never forget that Stern allowed Sterling to bungle a team in the second largest city in the country for nearly 30 years before the trade while being aware of his abhorrent behavior.

Given that there's no precedent for forcing a team owner to sell, Sterling can hold onto the Clippers forever. Barkley just said on TNT that they're worth $750 million - I bet Chris Hansen would pay $1 billion to move them to Seattle but, either way, Sterling stands to profit in a rarely lucrative way. Will the hubris he indulges by owning a team outweigh the hundreds of millions he could make by selling the team here?

Regardless, the NBA's own failure to discipline Sterling over the decades has created a lose-lose situation; he either stays and becomes a pariah unlike any seen in modern American sports or he sells for a profit in the hundreds of millions and the NBA must acknowledge that the failure that is the Clippers is their fault alone.

"Basketball reasons" was good for everyone since it the team it fukked the most was the Lakers, who are now mired in irrelevancy .. and that is just a big win for most NBA fans.

The fact that Obama has commented on this (which just shows you how ridiculous social media has become, but that is an argument for another day) does not bode well for Sterling. I think there will be a big press conference in the next week or so where he issues a public apology and then steps down.

Sports fans get treated like **** constantly. They always come back. I don't like Donald Sterling but you can't record someone without permission. It's wrong and it has to be thrown out. Everyone in sports says inappropriate offensive stuff.

Most of these players surely knew he was a racist before they came to the Clippers. If they wanted to make a stand they shouldn't accept his money.

Supposedly, Sterling's behavior has been common knowledge around NBA circles for some time but because he's an owner and not a player, it simply wasn't discussed publicly. But, as it is with these types of situations, EVERYTHING is coming out now:

Cuban understands that this situation could taint the entire league ownership through guilt by association. If the other NBA owners knew about Sterling and did or say nothing, then they will get some of the dirt thrown their way. Not to mention the chaos that would evolve if there are protests and police incidents at NBA playoff games which would be extremely bad for business.

    Yah, I saw this coming.

This has become WAY too big to ignore by the sponsors.
