I have a question, lots of ppl say Harden got angry, but I dind't notice it, could you post a video or describe the sequence of events? Thanks, would appreciate it. If someon else could do that, that would be nice too.
Yup, defense wins championships and we've shown we can score on Portland - even with our gimmick offense - but we have not been able to stop them. Even Howard hasn't been all that great on defense, still good though. We need defensive minded players and right now we only have Dwight, Beverley and Asik, maybe Garcia. That along with a coach who does not hold his players accountable and does not know how to handle defense and you are toast. Time for the next coach to come in and it better be a defensive minded one, Adelman and McHale both were not.
I want to see how Chris Finch does. He made that GB team play really well in the 2012 Olympics with not much talent from what I recall.
If the Rockets fire McHale and replace him with Finch, they are not serious about winning. Choosing a new head coach will be the biggest decision Morey makes this offseason.
Finch is unproven. You don't take a team with title aspirations that clearly needs a head coach who has experience and commands respect from a group of guys who have walked all over McHale this entire season and plug in someone who's never coached in the NBA. Get a real head coach in here next year. Someone who's led a team to playoff success. Someone who can install a real offensive system. Someone who demands his players actually play defense all season long. Someone who has the stones to bench guys who don't do what they're told. And someone who can make adjustments so that we don't see the same stupid mistakes in late April that we were seeing in early November.
Besides the first stipulation of your 2nd paragraph, I don't see how you know Finch doesn't have all of these capabilities? And Finch is unproven in the NBA, sure, but he won a title with RGV, and to my knowledge over achieved with a terrible GB team in the Olympics. I mean that team had Deng and a bunch of nobodies.
That's just it. No one knows what Finch can do as an NBA head coach because he's never done it before. You don't roll the dice like that. Not with a team expected to contend for a title. Bring in someone proven. There are plenty of options out there. To hire Finch would be an admission by Morey that he doesn't think it matters who the head coach is which would be a ridiculous mentality in the wake of this series.
Same old thing again 1- Defense is as important as offense to win a champ 2- Adjustments 3- Motivating and shouting in the face of players like Pop does is what lacks to awake Harden for example I believe that with this current team under a coach like Popovich would win a champ: How with a core of- Harden, Howard, Parsons, Beverley, Asik, Lin- the team is not able to win?? McHale is a great guy but sincereley this team is a joke compared to teams like the Spurs , Thunder, or even the Mavs We need a Pop, Thibs or Van Gundy type of coach Seen enough!
Same old pathetic in game coaching form McHale. NOTHING has changed from when I started this thread. Zero improvements whatsoever. Hey, let's go full out ISO down the stretch since i don't have any plays to run or I don't know how we can execute. Hey let's have Daniels out there but yet we won't run a play to get him open. Hey let's throw in Lin there who was horrible all game.
This was absolutely mind boggling. It was like watching a horror movie, but worse. Because in a horror movie a particular scene can catch you off guard and scare you once. Over here the same thing happened over and over again and every single time I looked on in disbelief. We have trouble getting the ball to our f'n shooting guard. I've been watching the NBA for over 20 years and never have I seen a team struggle to get the ball to a mother f'n shooting guard. Meanwhile Portland runs the same plays over and over and over and over again and McHale is too freakin stupid to do anything about it. This series is sooooo frustrating. I refuse to concede the Blazers are a better team then us. We simply have no defensive or offensive philosophy out there. Biggest problem is the coach. The players aren't prepared and we make mistakes a high school team would be ashamed of. Of course Lin sucks and Harden is not having a good series, but I put the blame squarely on McHale's shoulders for not doing anything about it. I never though I could hate a Rockets player more then I hate Scottie Pippen. I never thought a Rockets pg could suck more and be more frustrating to watch then Rafer Altson. Jeremy Lin has managed to take both spots by himself. And for that I still blame McHale for playing him in crunch time and not realizing the obvious. /rant
the biggest thing to me was putting Lin in the first place...I mean we would all be saying Mchale was smart to put Lin in after he grabbed that rebound and called timeout instead of losing it to Mo Williams. But since Lin didn't call timeout we're calling for it. Personally putting Lin back in the last minute when we managed to squeak a lead out without him on the floor within the last minute is just...head-scratching. Don't even think about the other choices Mchale is made throughout this entire playoff series so far. I remember during the entire 4th quarter Reggie Jackson and the other announcer was just questioning in subtle ways what were the rockets trying to do. There seemed like no identity, he kept saying "playground basketball". All I could think was their talking about the coach not establishing anything down for the team to do.
McHale should have kick the ref if needed and called the timeout after Lin's rebound. Has he done anything intelligent other than clotheslining someone as a player?
The Rockets many times look lost and disorganized. There were lots of mistakes made beside the costly one by Lin, which is not just on him but also on McHale. I've been watching the playoffs and I see so many times coaches running down the sidelines screaming for a timeout b/c they know how important every possession is. They also made the same mistake of almost not being able to advance the ball after Dwight got the rebound and passed it to Parsons. That should have been known and planned ahead of time. The Rockets are a young team and they make a lot of mistakes under pressure, that's why they need a coach who can guide them and make good decisions down the stretch. Half the time McHale has a helpless look on his face like he doesn't know what to do. Then he makes excuses after the game instead of taking accountability for his bad coaching.
You can't minimize player mistakes by blaming it on the coach. Players have to be accountable for the screw ups regardless of who the player is. On the other hand, I would like McHale to be more aggressive in managing end-game situations from the sideline. Half of the time our players look like they have no idea what they are doing crunch time.
who's the guy who is supposed to hold them accountable maybe some kind of authority above them? do they have one of those?
