Wrong. He owns a building in Koreatown and made some really nasty remarks about his Korean-American tenants. I lived across the street from his building on Wilshire/Normandy and the manager used to drink at the same bar I did. She would come in frustrated by the overt racist comments he'd make and after a few she'd let it out.

The guy is overtly and openly racist.

This doesn't make sense. We should be outraged if someone is publicly racist, but be OK with it if he does it privately? I think the problem most people have is with the racism itself - not how or when he expressed it. The way it was exposed is irrelevant.

That's been the problem with Sterling for several years beyond being sleazy, incompetent owner who has also been accused of being a slum lord and mismanaging his businesses. Oh yeah, he's a known racist, which is probably reason why some free agents have avoided the Clippers, outside of few select players. To the naive casual NBA fans or by passers who make stupid jokes about the NBA or its players, fail to realize how terrible Clippers are historically.

It's kind of hard for a racist to be private, when his personal views are expressed in public, among other things, such as Sterling giving a prostitute a weighty job in the organization or his cuckold arrangement with his new girlfriend/side-piece. It sort of hurts his case, as well telling a woman who is not his wife who not to hangout with and for him to say something a bit disparaging about one of the NBA's most beloved players ambassadors. I'd have say it's kind of a black-eye on the game in the sense that the NBA is more of an internationally driven game and product, now than its ever been, while also being a league of international superstars of all ethnic identities and social persuasions, most of whom are not white or American... Things, like this could tear a locker-room, easily ... it wouldn't be a problem if Sterling was a private person or racist, but he's not or ever has been

 

I'm not saying its OK what he said. I just don't feel comfortable with punishing people for things they say in private. I think personal and professional life, ideally, should be viewed separately. Perhaps that's not realistic for a professional sports league with high media visibility, though.

 

Instead of playing victim, DS could end this matter immediately. No one is coming to his defense. His GF didn't need to doctor the tape. That's DS. Her motives may not have been pure but that's another matter.

I feel sorry for the Clippers PR staff...reminds me of the Iraqi Information Ministry.

If he accepted responsibility, apologized, and sought help...we could all move on.

 

I'm pretty sure there is too much metaphorical bloodlust to allow for that. This won't end until he's out.

I'm not saying I'm against what they are doing. The clipper fans deserve so much better, but if they win, Donald Sterling will be benefiting. If they win the championship...well guess who the championship trophy is going to and whose franchise will be benefiting from it. Players will get paid regardless.
