Can we give credit to Howard for his great play and hitting his free throws down the stretch?

Dwight Howard is averaging 27.6 ppg, and 14.5 rbg (~ the 28/15 that shaq was saying he should be putting up) so far in these playoffs . Not only has Dwight been the best player on the team, but he has been pretty decent at the free throw line.

Game 1 he didn't do so well, but game 2 he was 6-7, and game 3 he was 4-6. Keep in mind, that some of these included CLUTCH made free throws down the stretch.

I think Howard deserves a lot of credit for stepping up.

+1. some of his points have come at the expense of the team playing 'rockets basketball' (a quick-moving improvisational offense), but his rebounding has been vital to not getting blown out 3 times in this series. He's also destroyed Robin Lopez, which is a key part of Portland's offense (grabbing offensive rebounds). He has come to play in the post-season, and it's great.

Eh if he hit them Game 1, series could be completely different. But he did get it going after that 0-3 stretch. Never take Howard out of the game.

If Harden showed up for just 1 game so far, the Rockets would be up 2-1.

Its funny because I'm getting sort of a T-Mac vibe from Howard. His individual stats are through the roof, but the impact isn't as obvious. For whatever reason.

Mainly its because of James Harden, but still, its a very quiet 28/14.

*This is not criticism more like an observation. I love Howard and he's lived up.

his playoff avgs are among the best

    http://espn.go.com/nba/player/gamelog/_/id/2384/dwight-howard
    27ppg, 14rpg, 3bpg, 54fg%, 63ft%,

tied for 5th in playoff scoring, 2nd in rebounds and blocks. yeah he's definitely showed up for the playoffs.

so now it seems that harden is our best regular season player, and dwight our best playoff player.

Yup. Could also argue that if LA didn't have 2 career games in a row, things would be different as well.

Easily the best player on this team. He gets all the heat all the pressure. All damn year all you hear from the media is bad mouthing Dwight. All the lies and bs about his character.
Nothing but a model player for Houston, so much hate nothing he does is good enough. I feel most of us take him for granted.

Dwight showing us just how great he is. His personality, his presence seems so sincere, desire to win so strong. He has put the team on his shoulders.
Someone else step up and help this man!

    Theme to Dwight's basketball life:

He just needs to draw some fouls on LMA. Aldridge always slaps down on the ball, as howard makes his move. Dwight just needs to anticipate that and extend his arms, take the slap on the forearm and sell it.

No doubt Dwight is the only Rocket who has consistently showed up in this series. But Barkley is right, the Blazers much rather have Howard go off than Harden and Parsons.

Yes he deserves so much credit for taking a perceived weakness and owning it in crucial junctures of the game. Howard has played very well this postseason. BTW last nights win was his first in a long time.

Not only his play on the court but his attitude off the court this playoff series. He has been classy and respectful. I especially liked when he was on the bench and he was the standing up and cheering Daniels when Daniels hit his first 3.

Howard has been great grabbing key boards and hitting clutch free throws. The reason we don't feel his impact is because it's never him with the ball for the final shot. He does all the dirty work throughout the game. He's been overshadowed by LMA but that game 2 start where he had like 17 points in the first quarter was just crazy. If they're going to start doubling him McHale has to make the pay.

Howard has been great in the playoffs. I'm happy we have him on the team. I hope he keeps it going. We haven't had all of our starters have solid games yet. Howard's FT shooting in particular has been a very pleasant surprise.

That just means he is the best player on the Rockets, period.

I think it is moreso the refs need to call the fouls against him down there. LMA has definitely gotten away with a couple. I agree; it would really help to get him in foul trouble.
