Man, this is without a doubt the biggest story in the NBA since the Donaghy story or perhaps the brawl.

I'm very curious exactly how far the NBA can go with discipline here. He's not an employee, he's an owner. If he decides to fight, can they make him sell? Would they have to go to court to force him to sell? Could they contract his team if it came to that?

    Crazy, crazy story.

Feel bad for Clips players, coaches, and fans.

Meanwhile, the happiest man in America is :

Always strange when you find bigots in sports today, even when it's just some zilch on a message board.

This is what sports should be about. You got a Turk, Lithuanian, Israeli, Latino, American white and black dudes all together, celebrating.

    Is the tape authenticated?

I'm surprised by the reaction though. Sterling is a well known racist. This is really nothing new.

I'm not saying he isn't racist-- for god's sakes, the guy has a building complex named the "Korean Towers" specifically because he wants Asian clientele because they are "cleaner". What I'm saying is that I didn't get from the audio that he hates minorities. There's a big difference between being racist-- that is, not treating minorities as equals-- and actively hating another group of people. I think Sterling hangs out with a lot of the old white guard from his generation and their opinions of him are important.

To be clear, I think Sterling is a POS but I felt that way way before this. At the same time, I think its is incredibly inappropriate for the league to take action here because of the means by which this audio was obtained. You shouldn't be able to go after a guy for what he says in the privacy of his home.

Even though Sterling has done and said worse, including refusing leases to blacks and Latinos, preventing those people for access to good housing, I think this is the first time there is a recording. Also, doesn't help that the story involves both Instagram and Magic Johnson.

Silver has way too much pressure on him, there is no way this gets blown over. And if all Silver does is slap Sterling on the wrist, he will get crucified in the media.

The players need to keep coming out and voicing their opinions. Force action.

    I love it.

Not trying to defend Sterling in any way, and I do believe he is indeed racist, but is there any validity to the recording?

I'm pretty sure recording private conversations is illegal in the US and I didn't think there were apps available to the general public to record phone convos? Unless Sterling's gf put her phone and speaker and legit just recorded into a mic - entrapment style.

The league can take action due to his continued history of racism and that his latest screwup stains the integrity of the league. He has done enough, that this can just be seen as the latest in a long line of despicable behavior.

Good thing the NBA is a private entity and not a government entity. Freedom of speech protects you from government only. Silver should drop the nuke on this guy. However long Sterling continues to be an owner, the Clippers will suffer and the NBA as a whole will suffer from the negative PR. Do you really want to be known as the league that tolerates racism?

I don't think it's so easy based on this audio (and the means by which it was obtained) alone, but I suppose they could factor in his previous history. I don't know what the specific relationship is between the NBA and its owners, but it's not quite so clear as "we can do whatever we want".

I am all in favor of the NBA obtaining control over the Clippers and selling to new ownership. But that really has nothing to do with this incident, which, honestly, is not even on the top 10 of bad things Sterling has done. I just don't think it'll happen.

Cuban is an idiot. Typical cheeky, snarky, oblivious comment from the ultimate douchebag.

Congratulations. He's a lot smarter and more successful than you as well.
Looks like someone is bitter because this ordeal might cause the Clippers to get distracted right out of the first round.

I've always defended your posts, even though you were the biggest and most delusional Clippers homer on this board, but I preferred you to the Laker homers here like goodbug. This is bigger than the game, please realize that.

Of course he's smarter and more successful than me. I'm not the one who called him an idiot. And you probably should worry about your own team since they are in way worse position than the Clippers.
