The fans would get refunds or tickets for the rescheduled game I'm betting. If you're the Clippers or GSW, would you want to be the team that doesn't give their fans their money back under these circumstances?

We don't sign multi-year employment contracts every day. It's one thing to buy something from ebay or from the neighborhood bodega without knowing conducting research on personal beliefs of the seller, it's quite another to sign a 5 year, $100M contract or whatever, to work for Donald Sterling, who has been publicly accused of racism multiple times.

First, it's not like you need to really do that much research to find out Sterling's reputation.

Second, the commitment level of the contracts that Chris Paul, Doc Rivers, etc. signed is quite different than your day-to-day small$ transactions. You work for the guy, meet with him, wear the uniform of his team on TV every game. In the case of a superstar player, given the max salary limit, when you sign with a team, you are essentially choosing to hand the owner tens of millions of dollars in excess value.

This is more of an association than just buying a sandwich from a guy.

When it comes to this level of commercial association, companies do care who they associate themselves with (who their suppliers and service providers, are, for example) because this kind of bad PR hurt's the company's own financial interest. You'd bet that every Clippers sponsor is thinking about things right now.

I'm sure that Doc, Griffin, CP, etc. don't endorse Sterling's views. But their choice do show what their own priorities are.

I didn't listen to the whole thing but this is what I took away as well.
He's still clearly not a good guy, but I don't think we found out any shocking revelations from the audio, or at least what I got through.

All that is clearly easier said than done. Let's say they boycott 1 game what effect does that have if they end up laying after that?

sterling should probably consider hiring extra security. might be a lot of people in LA who consider him a mark now.

Silver should drop the hammer on Sterling.
It'd benefit Silver so much. Make him look confident, competent, strong, and it'd be an extremely popular move to start off his career is commish.

Do anything they can to force Sterling out.

The best thing that could happen is for Donald Sterling to croak over and die, or LA gangs hunting him down and killing him.

Players don't have to make the hard choice of whether to send a message to Sterling, or ignore it and keep playing knowing Sterling benefits and profits with every game.

    Come on CUZZ

You're telling me he's not racist but he hangs with all racists?

In the slightest you can't even soak in self denial that something is wrong.

Just heard recording on ESPN. As someone said earlier, it sounds like they are reading a bad script. The comments were minor compared to other stuff he has done or been reported to say, even in depositions and in court.

But the whole "like talking to the enemy" thing is telling. I appreciate the fact that this was deep racism and concern for his social status expressed without racial slurs. Dude is struggling with his racism, social racism, and his desire to bang an exotic chick.

He is concerned with what his peers think of his associations. It is disgusting, but interesting. I am sure he will dry his tears with his money while he seeks to rent a new mistress.

Whatever happens, it will be a good day when he doesn't own an NBA team.

He has been racist for a long time. There was another super long article I read a while ago that detailed it. Kind of sad you are trying to defend this guy in anyway. Girl is obviously a gold digger doesn't change the fact Sterling is a racist.

Violence against the man would be unfortunate. But fans dropping commercial support for the team, sponsors jumping ship, and free agents and coaches turning away would be a powerful social statement.

Listening to the recording he sounded more pathetic than pitchfork gripping despicable when compared to past incidents. I felt a little sorry for him.

    LOL.
Kenny Smith dropped a reference to Sterling being a slaveowner.
    That was pretty clever hahaha.
