Unless they inherited it, to get a billion dollars you need to provide that much value to other people willing to part with their money.

 

All those people need is to know they get a much great return than their initial investment. How they get that return don't matter to them.

 

Well, Donald Sterling was a slum lord, so I guess it depends how you define 'value".

This. I listened to the whole thing I'm very very confused with his racism. It seems super inconsistent. Honestly, I think at this point he might just be going senile and forgot how to be racist. None of his points make any sense. It would be one thing if it was just like "I HATE BLACK PEOPLE. STOP TAKING PICTURES WITH THEM" but it was more like "I kind of wish you didn't take pictures with Magic Johnson, but it's okay that you did just don't do it publicly because he's black? But you can **** him."

 

I don't need any evidence to know Donald Sterling is racist... he just got caught in the public eye but I'm not surprised at all.

 

i guess he was raised to be a racist, so his crowd of friends and associates are giving him crap for having a gf that's hanging with black people. Seems like he has learn to "cope" with black people but he's ashamed that he has. Pretty sad way to look at things but dude is like 82 and going to pass soon.

Has there been any word on how his children are?

The same way they played for him before. If the players do anything now I think it will be a saving face move. I don't see how CP3 or Doc didn't know Sterling was a racist before. You knew, didn't you?

One factor that may cause this to be handled differently-- other than the fact that this time the racist stuff is actually recorded instead of alleged-- is that Adam Silver is now the commissioner. David Stern has really done nothing to reign in Sterling all this time, hopefully Adam Silver, and some of the new owners, will decide that the league and each of them personally are not benefiting from their association with Donald Sterling.

And yes, this is putting everyone who works for the Clippers in a really bad position. You bet that the media will be (rightfully) hounding each and every one of them for comments. The question is going to be "Didn't you know that Sterling was a racist scumbag when you signed up in the first place?"

Guess the attitude for a lot of these people is "Sterling can be racist all he wants, as long as he's not seen in public doing this." Kind of like Sterling's take on his girlfriend and black guys.

 

Alas we bow to the capitalist system which annoints its business owners as oligarchs immune from real conseuences.

 

There is a reason why this franchise has been grade A trash...bc of men just like this. I got sick hearing him talk. If the players and coaching staff on the Clippers have any sense of self worth...they would ask for a trade or release at the end of the offseason if he is still owning the team. If the NBA and its owners have any self respect, they would collectively vote and get rid of the POS. People like him shouldnt have success. They shouldnt be able to smile at someone, and spew this kinda flith. I guess lesson learned. Racism is alive and well and sadly, there are people just like him throughout the US.
