Trade up or Trade down can work against you if it doesn't go the way you planned out, but with the colts situation it was a NO brainer they needed a quarterback and there was one available worth 1.1. There isn't one for this year's draft. Each draft class is unique on its own. Depending on what the team plans are, you can do either and still have a very good draft.
For me counting Mathews its 5, and i'm expecting OAK or Cleveland to do their annual one or two stupidity moves by reaching on one of these QB.
I agree with that, every class is different, this class has 4 top prospects in Clowney then a decent sized gap till you get to guys like Mack, Robinson, and Watkins, then there is another pretty big gap then the rest of the picks. IMO it could work, but passing on all of the elite talent to compile picks is riskier than just taking the obvious top pick who helps solve a problem on the team.
I could buy that there are 5, but I don't really want the Texans taking Mathews to play RT as their first round pick.
6 seems a bit far to drop to. If ATL is giving up a second this year and a first next year as part of some super package, then I guess it could be worth it. But my opinion is that if you sucked enough to pick at 1.1 then you gotta come out with a guy you see as a game changer. Maybe the scouts see this year's JJ Watt and think they can get him at 6. But whatever they do, just don't get cute and miss out on the guy you most desire.
Yep. We'd probably be looking at Matthews, a QB not named Manziel, and Evans. Does Donald fit our system? I suppose I could live with Matthews (or even Evans; I know I must be crazy). Only QB I want that high is Johnny and he'll probably be gone. I guess it would depend on what the ATL package looked like.
Yup very true, It boils down to what the Texans are planning. They might feel like they can get a a guy like Mathews at 6 and use those extra picks to move up back in 1st to get one of these QB or just play the safe route and get Clowney or Mack if they think he fits better in their defensive scheme. But either way. All the Suspense is KILLLLLINNNNGGG MEE. Ughhh this off season has been WAY tooooo long.
Well, you know that if a deal like this gets done, it's going to be conditional. The Texans will draft Clowney #1. Then, if a player they like is still available at #6, Atlanta would draft for us and we'd trade the rights to Clowney for the rights to PlayerX plus picks. If there aren't any players left at #6 that we'd be willing to trade down for, then the deal's off. It's win-win either way for us. Either we get Clowney or we get another player we like plus picks. You don't have to worry about whether you're trading down too far if you do it this way. If the player you like is still on the board then it's not too far. Hell, if the player we like is somehow still available at #9, then we could still do a deal with the Bills if Atlanta isn't willing to trade. The only downside being you get a slightly lower 2nd round pick as part of the package.
It's Pancakes so take it for what it's worth...

I expect Texans to take Clowney or Manziel with first pick or Bortles or Mack if they trade down. I would be cool if they traded back twice. I believe Dennard and Gilbert are Blue Chip players and our DB's are garbage. People are caught up on the top guys who get all the media hype not realizing how much talent is actually in this draft.
Why? That sounds like a pretty predicable bet, either you take Clowney/Manziel at one, or you trade down only if the other team has Mack or Bortles and is willing to cough up multiple picks. That's not what I think they should do, but it's easy to see them doing it. I think they should keep their pick and draft either Manziel or Clowney, with my preference being Manziel. My dream scenario would be drafting Clowney and then trying to trade up and get Manziel. Can you imagine the reaction if they did that?
I'm not sure manziel lasts to 6. If you want manziel or clowney, you take them at #1 and not settle for less
"Want" is a spectrum, not a binary proposition. In a room full of homely women, there may be one you want to get with more than the others, but that doesn't mean you are going to be as disappointed striking out with her as you would with [insert dream woman].
The texans aren't going to be that dumb. If they want Manziel or clowney, they'll stay at one...if they're not sold, then they'll trade down. It's as simple as that.
Agreed, I'd be stunned if he fell to six, too intriguing, high ceiling, media star, exciting player to watch. Also might be a monumental bust, but I'd gamble on him.
Of course you would gamble on him because you're not spending any money... Lol... But I think all quarterbacks will still be on the board if they traded back to 6. Nice...
