Scratch that. I got them mixed up. Here are the ACTUAL numbers. http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/HOU/2014.html There is literally only TWO people on the team that shoot above 40% from 16-23 feet this season that shoot anywhere near 40% over their career or even the last couple of seasons. And that's Harden and Lin. 16-23 feet 2013-14 vs Career Harden 46.2%, 38.1% Lin 40.5%, 41.8% Parsons 33.3%, 37.6% Jones 27.3%, 25.6% Dmo 25.0%, 26.7% Casspi 25.0%, 37.2% Beverley 26.9%, 26.3% So tell me who you want shooting a ton of mid-range from 10-16 feet? Jones? Dmo? Casspi? I'm waiting...
Oddly enough, Lin and Harden are the two guys I remember seeing take any significant number of those 2pt shots. I wonder why that is?
Click the link in the previous post. The numbers are there. The math for most of them is superior for shooting the 3, and many of them shoot the 3 at a better rate. For example Beverley is 27% from 16-23, but 36% from 3. You don't just pick up a ball and suddenly start hitting the mid-range. It's a specific shot you practice from a spot on the floor. Just like some players are better at corner 3's than elbow 3's than top of the key 3's. The idea that "any" player can shoot a mid-range shot is ludicrous and should be obvious to someone even to someone who doesn't like stats... at least is SHOULD be if your "eyes" are so good.
There's already a thread where I list screen usage of every team. There's a multiple page discussion of it. Do a search. Or dig up the data.
I know there is. I just like how you shy away. Im on my phone watching tv. I can't seem to find the 3% for each individual player .
3pt% in this link. Just scroll down and look at 3pt%. http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/HOU/2014.html The thread is titled something like the "Rockest usage of screens". Click a few pages and you can probably find it somewhere. Or use google and do a search for torocan + screens.
Lin was shooting 5.5 percent better than league average on mid-range shots in New York. Those numbers drastically went down when he first came to Houston and was coming back from injury (like to 14.5 percent below league average), but then went back up to substantially above average, if I remember right.
You can't really use the Mavs and Red Sox as examples of "moneyball" success stories when they both had payrolls in excess of a $100 million. Give most that type of financial flexibility and they can put together a competitive team using any type of philosophy. Even the Oakland As and Billy Beane, the originators of "moneyball" in the mlb, have abandoned it after they came up short year after year. People need to look up Einstein's definition of insanity.
I have often wondered about that claim regarding the ratio of Morey's good vs. bad moves. Please enlighten me by starting off with listing all the good moves in one column and the bad ones on the other. Let me start you off with the series of drafts and trades for power forwards and how many of them became all star or even solid pf's. More than two years ago, I have already been harping on the fact that at that point, all the excuses have already been listed by posters for Morey. Two years hence, the same excuses are still being mentioned. That is two years more from the five years that Morey has been with the Rockets, and the same old excuses just being recycled over and over again? That guy must be superman with a super Teflon costume.
Yeah, lets fire the guy that took this team out of the injury plagued era to get Harden and Howard... makes sense... That logic though... /thread
I'm definitely not saying fire him. Just calling for an objective look at the system the rockets use.
Stop stop stop stop this **** right now and turn off your computer. The man is the best GM in sports. Just stop
LOOOOOOOOOOL, a guy gets you 2 superstars and transfer this team from lottery team to a playoff team in 2 years, should be on the hot seat.....???? I don't if some posters on here are trolling or being series
To me this is no different then a couple years ago when so many people were tired of the exchanging of assets for marginal upgrades carousel and wanted him canned then. No one willing to give the process time and a legit chance to work. We all saw what happened. In my opinion it's the same thing here. The plan doesn't immediately work and people want to scrap it completely. He finally got the stars now he has to do some work to put the right role players around them. Trust me, he's not looking at the roster right now and saying these are the exact type of guys we need. To get Dwight we had to live with vet min guys who are vet min guys for a reason. Maybe I'm just overly patient, but I think we need to see what happens this offseason and the next before anything drastic other than possibly a coaching change if someone clearly far and away superior to the rest comes available.
Listen... If the rockets lose this series.. McHale will get fired. But Morey isn't going anywhere for a long time (god forbid something happening).
