5 years from now Harden and Dwight will be in wheels chairs. Not sure why you buggin' about 5 years for. They can quite easily turn things dramatically around in 12 months with trades.

Dirk is a good player, but he has holes in his game.
Lebron has holes in his game.
Durant has holes in his game.
Chris Paul has holes in his game- and hasn't had much postseason success either.
Michael Jordan was not a great outside shooter.

Lamarcus Aldridge has holes in his game (it may not have looked like it these past two games, but he does)

You will always be able to find certain weaker points in any player's game, no matter how good they are.

Harden, admittedly, might have several of these areas right now. But the key is not fixing every single imperfection of a single player. They key is having that player try to continually improve, as well as finding complementary pieces to help fill these weaker areas in that player's game.

Don't forget that this Rockets roster has been completely overhauled in the past two years. We are still a good team, and still have a chance to fight our way into this series. I am still hopeful for a competitive series and hopefully a series win. However, if things don't work out that way, then we will continue to search for the right complementary pieces so that next year we will be even better suited to compete for the championship.

They can't turn things dramatically around... because they can't trade away Harden & Howard. Btw, I don't think they should trade them.

It'll be tough to bring in guys like Melo and Love when the team has a tradition of losing and underachieving. Dwight came to Houston specifically because he wanted to win a championship. Now he and his Rockets may lose in the first round.

You are severely downplaying how good of a situation houston is in.

    - Young superstar player, if he gets knocked out this early I feel confident that will finally light a true fire under his ass

    - Great talent base and we have all of our picks. If Rockets can draft a defender this draft like a Jerami Grant (who I feel will be a lockdown defender next level) the perimeter problem will be alleviated. Jones is very young and he has shown lots of talent offensively. I personally feel like he can be an outstanding player on this league. He has potential to defend 3/4 but he still needs lots of seasoning first.

    - Excellent GM. Morey knows what he is doing.

    - A new coach can completely revitalize the team. Look at the Clippers. They are similar to the Rockets. Last year they did well but had a similar quality coach in Vinny Del Negro. There are a good amount of coaching candidates available such as SVG and Hollins. Mchale has a team option I Believe for next season.

    - Great Cap flexibility. The Warriors are a team doomed for next couple of years. They have little cap flexibility over the next couple of years, they will have to pay Klay probably 10m + on top of their already high salary obligations.

    - Star players will want to play here

Listen, Rockets are not as bad as they have shown. LMA is playing way above his talent. He never hits those mid range shots as well as he is right now. He has a 52% TS%. If he was playing his normal or hell even a 30 15 guy, Rockets are up 2-0.

If they bring in Melo and make Melo the alpha dog and bring in a tough coach, I see a bit of chance of a break through..

But I really doubt the allure of Morey can be stronger than Phil Jackson. Seriously, I give Melo coming to Houston a smaller chance than I predict the powerball number for Dec 14, 2016

I think Houston has a good team, don't get me wrong. But I think they are more of a Nash led Suns type of good... which will bring fans a lot of heartaches.

What allure is there of Phil Jackson? He's a coach, not a team builder. He's 100% leaving NYK but the question is: Bulls or Rockets?

If chose Houston it wouldn't be about picking Morey over Phil, it would be picking the more talented roster.

    1. You know nothing about the next 3-5 years. Nobody does.

    2. You know nothing about Harden and what goes on in his mind. You are only going off of other people's speculation.

IF Harden was doing well in the playoffs right now like he's certainly capable of doing, this conversation would be totally different. We would be talking about how bright the future is and how amazing it is that we got Harden.

You are basing the next 3-5 years off of 2 games. That is a knee-jerk reaction.

Yes, Harden certainly has holes in his game... but your reasons as to why are completely pulled out of your ass and is pure speculation.

I can't say I know Harden, but some of the stars' trajectory can be easily predicted if you deal with enough people and study behaviors. For example, Allen Iverson, didn't take a genius to know a team built around him stood no chance.

    A. Its hard to see the Rockets not at least stay as competitive in the regular season if fully or close to full health.

    B. Its hard to see the West staying as competitive with the bottom of the playoff pack where a 7th seed actually can beat a 2 seed, and an 8th seed has a player like Dirk to give a team like Dallas a shot at the 1 seed. Those kind of things dont happen normally in the playoffs.

The Rockets will make something between incremental improvements to major improvements as soon as next year, and 4 of the Rockets 5 best players best years are 2 to 3 years ahead of them (Harden, Parsons, Jones).

Also keep in mind that Morey kept this roster flexible without using either mid-level exceptions, and kept all contracts other than Harden & Howard with a short expiration date. I'm 100% confident that THIS is not the talent level that will be on the Rockets roster 2 years from now.

Add the roster improvements (internally and externally), more favorable match-ups in the future, and a potential coaching upgrade in the future to get better playoff production, and its hard to see the Rockets staying EXACTLY where they are or declining.

I disagree heavily with the OP. The Rockets might not win it all, but they will continue to be in the thick of it for the next 3-5 years... NOT in any sort of Abyss.

And what are you basing this on? 2 games? It can't be from last year's playoffs, nor can it be from this regular season because Harden was transcendent on that period of time. And by saying you can't reason yourself out of that conclusion, all you're saying is that you're stubborn and no amount of logic will dissuade you. Awesome dude.
