I like what I'm seeing reading some of the posts. Seems like it'll be better to just wait and buy them cheaper later on. I don't wanna spend 225 lol broke college student..

Met one of the founders of C3 Presents, Charlie Jones today. He was a guest lecturer for a small class I'm in at UT. He said he takes feedback very seriously, so if you have any good ideas for ACL, I can pass them along.

Make it smaller and go back to one weekend. Lower the prices and/or make the "early bird" tickets actually available again. Bring back the lineups that made the festival great.

He would disagree with anything I'd say, though. Hence the reason I'm opting for the festival that will have a lower total attendance than the BMI stage at 11 am on the first Friday of ACL.

Great stuff, thanks! I am writing up an analysis on ACL and will include your feedback. Should I cite you as "leroy?" :p

Less EDM please (at least the big mainstream top of the lineup stuff). Too many fests are headed that way and its making me really value the fests that aren't. A couple acts are fine, but having 2 EDM acts in the top 6? and 4 in the top 12? for ACL thats a bit much IMO.

EDM draws out crappy people and the acts aren't that interesting. I know they draw a bunch, but this fest is kind of losing its identity. I don't want another EDM festival

Now im not saying no edm acts, just less. 2013's lineup was good on this front.

I may be in the minority here when I say all this. But I genuinely believe this whole mainstream EDM wave taking over festivals is just a cancer to the festival industry. Fests are booking these people who just push play (i know there are DJ's who do more then that, but a lot of these dont) over actual bands. Not to mention the culture it promotes. Case in point- http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/03/31/us-miami-ultra-idUSBREA2U17H20140331 I don't want to be around people like that

I like EDM being at ACL. Keeps some of the other stages less crowded.

Your fest has to be pretty bad if the mayor of your city (and other officials) is calling for whats a huge money maker and tourist attraction to the city to end. Yeah, stuff happens at other fests, but you don't see Austin calling for ACL to end, or Coachella calling for Coachella to end, or Manchester calling for Bonnaroo to end, or so on. Yet these EDM centric festivals always run into problems. Hell, they had an EDC Dallas a few years ago that was a disaster, and in general they have problems with those EDC events.

Again, I'm not saying all EDM is bad. And there are DJs I like for sure. And I don't mean to diss anyone who likes this stuff, im sure there are fine people who do. But there are plenty of annoying/bad people these events draw out that I don't want to be around. This whole movement of the past few years, with all this mainstream EDM and stuff, is a cancer to music festivals in my opinion

Thats a pretty solid lineup imho. Haven't been to acl in several years but might have to this year. I have never seen Pearl Jam in concert and would love to even if Eddie's voice is all busted now

Coachella is in Indio, CA - FYI... and Indio city council almost didn't approve an extension to the Golden Voice contract last year. For the extension to happen some dramatic shifts in organization and security had to take place - and the festival is much better off for it now (having been last weekend). In 2010 "Cluster****chella" was the epitome of how to screw up an amazing thing while pissing off the locals in the process. Luckily Goldenvoice righted the ship.

I think as large festivals continue to grow and snowball that it is important for the organizers to continually tweak and improve - I'm guessing that other festivals don't do this as well as AEG Live (GV's parent company). This year's Coachella was easily the biggest one I've been too, yet I had the least amount of issues with lines, traffic, unruly people, etc.

I do agree that most "problem children" at music festivals are the fans of EDM - because of the drugs that come as a result. This was the first year of Coachella (in my five) that I couldn't finish a single set in the Sahara tent. I'm just "too old" for that crowd now, where everyone is rolling their balls off and oblivious to those around them. Either way, the festival is set up so you can still enjoy the music taking place in Sahara without dealing with the kiddies thanks to beer gardens.

I think festivals are more about what you make them, than how other people are behaving. in the past I wanted to be front and center at every show and would fight and claw and sweat my ass off in the process. Now, I've learned to hang back with friends and have a few beers while just chilling and enjoying the great music and scenery. This is basically the opposite of how most EDM fans behave at a festival thanks to the "additives."

I'll save you the time...his voice is fine. Source: seven shows from Dallas to Portland on November 2013 West Coast Leg.

    Good line up.

Good EDM acts: Skrillex, Calvin Harris, Zedd, Major Lazer, Gramatik

I've seen all of them at Ultra actually, and they put on a good show.

Beats Antique has good chill music, looking forward to seeing them.

Saw Beck back at UT in 2003 at Bass Hall. Anyone remember that show??

Outkast coming back is just the bees knees. I was recently at a wedding and they played B.O.B. and the whole dancefloor went nuts.
