Hell, I miss Aqua Fest. I saw Roy Orbison there at Auditorium Shores for a few bucks in August of 1988. On December 6th of that year, he passed away. It was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. Orbison was amazing! He hadn't lost a thing with his voice. Here's the set list. Pretty Woman is mentioned twice, because after the first time he sang it, there was a long standing ovation. So Roy did something I had never seen before, and I've seen a lot. He gave the crowd an ardent "thank you," said something to his great band, and sang the entire song again. The crowd went nuts! The first and only time I saw Mr. Orbison. this is a decent lineup and i might attend for outkast and the replacements among some other nice names. but im not jumping to buy a ticket last year i found tickets a few weeks before the fest for weekend 2 for like $150 after fees on stubhub. and when the third day was cancelled they totally refunded me 1/3rd of the price (stubhub did, not ACL), so that was nice, didnt expect that. though, if you can only do one festival, fun fun fun festival in austin is easily the best festival ive been too (this year im doing bonnaroo for the first time though so i dont know). I went to ACL last year and it was fun, but I'd go to FFF over it any day without thought. I'd only be doing ACL in addition to funfun if i do it this year.
I may grab a one day pass depending on the schedule. Many of the acts were at Coachella, so I'm not too eager to miss a weekend of football for the same acts at an inferior festival.
this fest has always interested me because i love small festivals plus the atmosphere seems really coool, but the lineups the last two years just haven't had lineups ive been that interested in. if they get just a couple more acts im interested in this year i might try to go over ACL
Damn, I wish this thread was around before I bought my weekend pass at 10 this morning. From reading the comments it looks like there are other ways to get cheaper tickets? I have never been to this festival. Never even heard of it. I just figured this year may be my last time to see Outkast live and catching them in Austin would be cheaper than flying somewhere else to see them. Eminem and Pearl Jam was just a bonus. Well, at least that's how I'm justifying dropping $225. Any tips from those who have been before will be heavily appreciated. Edit: UT also plays Baylor that Saturday.
I bought two tickets... how easy is it to resell them when the weekend approaches if I don't feel like going?
What do you want to know? They always have big screen Tvs so you can catch the game. It's actually pretty cool. Also get Children of the Kettle corn popcorn. It's the greatest thing to eat while watching bands. Also you can't park at the place. They have designated places in Austin where they shuttle you for free to and from and you might want to park at the parking garage beside City Hall.
Better off doing it sooner than later. Prices start to drop once it gets within that week because people that can't go get desperate to sell. The week in between last year had 3-days going for less than $100.
Craigslist.org. Last year, we just parked, started walking to the festival and bought them for $100 at Barton Springs/Robert E. Lee.
Just the basic suggestions I guess. What you mentioned about parking was helpful. Do they announce the times each act is expected to be on?
Yup, they will announce that later in the summer, probably two months out or so. Which weekend are you going?
True because of the headliner. I went last year and there was maybe one that I remember, Kendrick Lamar. Good show though. I'm used to seeing a bunch of rappers at festivals though.
An Eminem set in 2014 might as well be more of a pop music set then a rap set. ok but in seriousness, ive heard nothing but mediocre things about eminem live. wish they would have went with Kanye or Jay-Z if they wanted two rap headliners
Well it kinda of depends on how you are at festivals. They allow you to being towels and lawn seats so thats a plus if you aren't about standing around all day. The big stages usually have giant screens so you don't have to be that close to enjoy the show. Also I'm not sure if you live there or not but when it gets closer to the festival start looking at the ACL nites. You get to see some bands in a smaller atmosphere. Saw Junip and Valerie June and it was actually the highlight of that weekend. These shows usually are like 20 bucks. The ACL app is cool to.
T-mac>Hakeem Spoiler Jk. I almost lost my sh** when I found out Outkast was playing. I literally bought tickets for ACL and FFF fest just in case they were going to play either. I was pretty sure when they announced FPSF that Outkast were going to play ACL. I'm so happy that I finally get to see them live. I hoping with all my heart that they play Spottieottiedopaliscious with a horn section. Would probably faint.
