This is really awful. He has really poor defensive awareness and on top of that he puts minimum effort. He better try harder in the playoffs or the Rockets are a 2nd round exit at best.

Pretty much, it's become standard for media to find ways to bash his defense.

He isn't anything special on D, but with his offensive load every night, I don't really blame him.

This video should change the minds of people that think Harden plays great defense.

Wow...Harden's idea of defense appears to be watch the ball and forget about his man. It's pretty sad really. WTH is he doing out there?

It seems pretty clear he is expending all his energy offensively and slacking on defense. Or, is just plain playing lazy D.

Notice how that move to try to knock the ball out from behind once his man blows by him never works. He also seems to stop playing at times and just watches expecting a teammate to pick up the play.

Wait people thought that? The only reason he was good at post D, was because he didn't have to really move.

Can't edit, meant to add: He needs to at least try harder, but we can't expect him to become an amazing 2 way player, outside of Lebron no one else gives 100% on both sides. (Durant is closest, PG tries to, but usually his great D hurts his offense)

I bet you could make a similar video for most of the guards in the league.

There's only a handful of people that think Harden plays great defense. Even then, members of his family shouldn't count.

doubt it, Harden might be the worst defending SG in the NBA.

Deadspin picked it up from someone else. But yeah. That's an 11 minute video. Watched only 3 minutes of it in the bathroom.

I doubt the Rockets are going to win and progress in the playoffs on the backs of their defense. They are going to have to outscore the opponent most games. But, while that was easier in the regular season, it's going to be a lot harder in the playoffs. I'm very interested to see how our D plays in the playoffs...because we have to have defensive intensity and presence...not standing around playing loose off your man and reacting three seconds late.

Harden's go to move on defense is letting the guy dribble by him, and then he tries to poke ball out.

You could probably put together a 10 minute video of highlights where Harden's semi-lackadaisical gambling actually paid off, too. It's no secret that Harden's a subpar defender more often than not, but these kinds of videos tend to overstate the case.

And, he hasn't figured out by now that he doesn't have long enough arms for that reach around poke to work. That's kind of scary because he's relying on a defensive move that just doesn't work time and time again. He has to figure out that he needs to do something else and not what doesn't work. But, he hasn't because it's more instinctual for him than anything from what I see.

Lebron, Durant and Cp3 are much better defenders than him and carry just as much of an offensive load. Its just an excuse. I am not saying he needs to be an elite defender but at least average which he can do if he just puts minimal effort. The guy just doesn't care. He is the Amare Stoudemire of SGs.
