I think catastrophic coverage is worth something. You never know when something will hit you. But I agree about paying the penalty vs. a gym membership. That's what I am doing - putting my money into a gym and yoga. I feel that's a better investment right now. But that's only because I am trying to save for retirement. I would rather like to have health care.

I will pay the penalty this year, but I don't expect to go without coverage for too much longer.

The problem isn't Obamacare as I see it. The problem is just that health care is so ridiculously expensive.

Good post. I agree with it, especially the last part. I think at some point the cost exceeds the benefits and the small risk is worth it for those who have a family history without any diseases and eat right/exercise.

Yes and if get appendicitis or gallstones or just break a bone where is that $40k going to come from to pay for that surgery?

Oh that's right your irresponsible @ss will just go to the ER rack up that bill and never pay it which in turn causes medical costs to rise for everyone else.

Here's what I'd like to see: everyone with the attitude of "govnmt cant make me buy no galdurn insurance!" should be made to sign a waiver that they give up their right to the ER unless they pay cash upfront.

That fixes the problem and reinforces that conservative wetdream of Muricans taking care of themselves and not relying on government handouts, like free healthcare handouts at the ER.

People shouldn't die because they can't afford basic health care. Your whole performance in this thread is dumb.

You're not a bad guy. You and millions like you are experiencing first hand how insipid the entire fallacy of health insurance really is.

Welcome to the American Healthcare System. Three times the cost of countries with single payer systems with much worse results.

Remember this the next time someone says universal healthcare is evil and socialist.

Naaahh. You're just an uninformed d-bag. And you must live a pretty sedate lifestyle if you don't put yourself in danger of an injury. There's life outside the gym bro.

I have avoided many car accidents. Many times. People who suddenly start merging into my lane on the highway and me avoiding them by honking, and quickly changing lanes. It has happened more than a handful of times. So i guess i am safe on the roads. Plus everyone has liability so am i the bad guy if someone who doesn't hits me? Other than an ankle sprain playing basketball, what do i have to worry about?

Eating better does not prevent one from possibly developing appendicitis. Lol.

Last month, a seemingly healthy 3 - year came to our e.r. Ruptured appy. You never know when chit hits the fan.

I think you come across as a bit pompous and arrogant in your post which is what people are writing about, but I understand what you are saying.

Universal Health Care would be the more sensible route to go. It's silly to put this kind of economic burden on people. It's not good for the country. The issue is that these policies are asking you to pay for other people's health care. Society needs to give people health care so it can have a productive workforce.

But instead of providing for people who are ill and need all this expensive coverage by tapping those who have the means, they are taking it from people like you. This is truly the Republican strategy - to shift the burden from the rich to the middle class. And Obamacare does that despite it's attack from the right (it did come from the right though).

We need a single-payer system. One that doesn't hurt the middle class so much.
