Do you really believe the things you say? If you watched any film you would clearly see Bridgewater is better under real pressure and it's not even close. Also if you watched film you would see it's only Bortles designed screens that allow pressure to come that pad his stats. I would say Manziel is probably ahead of him if you count his rushing.
Have to agree with OMR on this one, When blitzed or pressured he made the right decision/pass and thus that is why his numbers are good against pressure and blitz. If you say bortles is best when pressured than how do you not criticize him for his level of competition b/c him and Teddy play the same conference. You can't really knock a prospect down because of the level of competition. Even though neither of their quarterback played tough competition, but neither were playing with multiple 4 or 5 star athletes like Manziel. If scouts knocked on players level of competition than all you ever will see is SEC quarterback going in 1st round. When your really looking at the quarterback under pressure, you want to see if he stood tall in the pocket and made the right throw. TB has consistently shown that and has been praised for.
I do criticize Bortles' level of competition, but so far as I know, no one is comparing him to HOFers or future HOFers every other day in these threads. The common impression is that Bortles is a nice prospect, but nothing special so I don't feel the need to hammer home that he hasn't really faced anyone of note and that he isn't the next Joe Montana. As to "If scouts knocked on players level of competition than all you ever will see is SEC quarterback going in 1st round" that's not true, not every prospect bombs at the Combine and again at Pro day. When the ONLY thing positive you have to go on is tape against Eastern Kentucky, the strength of competition becomes an issue. Most other QB's alleviate those concerns in the months leading up to the draft rather than reinforcing them and adding new concerns like Teddy has done. When he was scrutinized, he showed flaws in his mechanics and footwork, proved that he has small hands and is dependent on gloves to get a proper grip on the football, that he isn't the brainiac that he was billed as, that he really is a guy who plays under 210 lbs despite being over 6'2, that his accuracy wasn't what it was billed as.....I mean he simply hasn't done ANYTHING well in the lead up to the draft so far.
I respect your opinion, but there are some things that you value more than i do and also often put too much importance on things that shouldn't be. Thats what makes it fun evaluating players and we both can end up being wrong. 1. Forget about comparing him to future HOF. Don't worry about that. Just because someone on boards think that doesn't make it true. They are all prospects. Even clowney is a prospect. 2. Bombed Combine? He didn't participate in the 40 and didn't throw at the combine like lot of top prospects do. Can you criticize Manziel for that because he didn't throw either and just b/c he didn't run the 40. Doesn't mean jack for a qb who sits on pocket. There is enough game tape to see that he has decent speed and does not have schaub speed 3. Pro Day absolutely was disappointing. We now know that he does struggle without gloves even with average hands not small because he meets the required hand size. Still a big concern of mine and the biggest reason of him sliding down. 4. Footwork. You know who didn't display good footwork at the combine and pro day. The other two top quarterback as well. There were plenty of times i saw not a good foot work from both of them. Manziel threw lot of his throws off back foot on his pro day, but we all know how mesmerized the media was with his presentation. They all have lot of work to do. As much as I am concerned with TB glove issue, the same amount of concern i have for manziel's decision making and how much he has benefited from a good O-Line. Lets not get even started with bortles, OH he has a such NFL body. Now those are the only real concern Ive seen because he does have a great football IQ, but not real world intelligence. Him throwing with gloves is my main and biggest issue. To me they all have real question marks and neither are top 15 material at this point. That's why i'm either down for clown or trade down.
No they didn't. Their out of conference schedule is not the same and UCF's was harder. Also Blake has faced 3 ranked teams this past year in South Carolina, Baylor, and Louisville who all have pro prospects on their defense and he went 2-3 against those teams... They also played Penn State as well. Teddy hasn't faced a ranked team all year (UCF wasn't ranked at the time they played). Blake beat two top ten ranked teams this past season.
Are you trained at watching tape OMR...??? You do know to truly scout a quarterback you have to scout the defense he is playing against as well to see if that defense gives up the same type of plays to other quarterbacks. Breaking down tape is a long process. By the way... Blake throws more than JUST screens and unlike with Carr (who throws a ton of screens) you can find a plethora of different type of throws on his tape. Also Teddy plays in a heavy pro style play action system. That's a positive because it shows he can learn/knows a pro style system BUT defenses in the AAC are not equipped to handle that... Most college defenses aren't. Those kids are not use to seeing a quarterback turn his back to the defense which in my opinion is an advantage for Teddy and a negative in my book towards his draft grade. I think your best bet is to hope Teddy falls to the 2nd round and the Texans draft him then.
Huh??? 2-3?!?!?! And as far as your point, against Baylor Blake Bortles threw for at least 200 yds. on just screen passes. Sure, he played decent at home against South Carolina (26 QBR btw), but as far as I'm concerned that's 1 positive for him, and not worth nearly enough to pretend like he played in the SEC and Louisville was in the Southland....and I'm not even going to mention Penn State; if O'Brien didn't come from there, no one would even mention them. If beating them by 3 is a positive for Bortles, then beating his hometown Miami team by 27 should be a positive for Teddy.
You can spin it how you want. We all have an opinion. I had my same opinion of Teddy along time ago. I said all of these things before the combine and pro day and you and many others cussed me out and called me crazy. Now you hear rumors of Teddy dropping to the 2nd round and Blake being the 1st QB drafted. But the draft hasn't happened yet so we shall see...
I watched Bortles play about 2.5 games this season. The one I watched the closest was the Baylor game. His numbers were all about YAC that day...particularly with a Baylor defense that forgot how to tackle guys down field. I'm fine with them doing almost anything with this #1 pick...aside from using it to draft Blake Bortles. They're enamored with measurables at a combine with that guy, most of which revolve around his physical presence; not real game play. I'd be sincerely disappointed if they did that. I'd hope to be wrong...but I'd be disappointed.
I completely understand that everyone has an opinion, I'm just saying that you can't use certain "stats" (SOS) to inflate a prospect, and then use virtually the same numbers (weak schedule) to drop another.
Baylor has a top 5-6 pass defense... Blake took what the defense gave him. Funny how you ignore how he ran all over Baylor "Steve McNair" style and people ignore it. Nope. I was just responding to the poster who said Teddy and Blake played against the same competition which they didn't. And what "stats" are you talking about...? I didn't throw out any numbers.
Yes the infact did play similar competition, 8 teams in fact were the same CMP ATT CMP% Yards Yards/Att TD INT Bortles 131 197 66% 1828 9.3 12 3 Bridgewater 154 219 70% 1925 8.8 13 2 You are so full of **** its nauseating. Almost as bad as Bobbybegreat
Stop defecating in your own mouth, those stats are from the SAME 8 opponents that they played during the year
But they played more than 8 games... And those stats are very similar. And considering that Teddy played in a heavy play action pro style offense and had a top ranked defense _ that makes Blake look even better. Thanks for helping make my argument buddy. You're a peach

Notice the win loss records amongst the same competition which is the most important stat at the end of the day... Blake is undefeated and Teddy isn't. That kid is a "winner".... Lol.
