Phil Jackson is signing Odom as insurance, in case Melo leaves...

Yep, I think it will be a sign and trade deal. I see Lin, Asik and possibly Parsons going to the Knicks for Melo & (Shumpert???).

Maybe I'm alone in this sentiment, but I don't wanna give up Parsons in order to get Melo.

I'd vomit if we gave up Parsons.

Parsons chemistry, defense and contract are all better than what Melo will bring.

I'd prefer letting Lin and Asik expire but if not getting good draft picks would be preferred. McHale and the staff do as good of a job as any team developing young players (Parsons and Jones are on the cusp break out stars and Canaan was very impressive while Bev was out)

I'd rather keep developing good/great players through the draft and flipping some for an eventual third/fourth star while paying Parsons after 2015.

The Rockets wouldn't give up Parsons. He is too valuable to the Rockets because of their ability to go over the cap to resign him. The players probably gone would be Lin, Asik, Jones and draft picks.

    Howard/Anthony/Parsons/Harden/Beverley

If my knowledge of the cap is correct we might not have to if Melo says he wants Houston. That forces New York to accept anything in return for Melo from us so he doesn't walk for nothing. I'm assuming Lin/Asik/ and some fillers would be enough to land Melo and still respect the cap.

Although the thought of Melo coming to Houston is gaining traction even more now that the Knicks are not playoff bound, I still think he ends up in Chicago. I do want him on the Rockets though.

My only reservation with Anthony is the law of diminishing returns on offense. There is only one ball, and our offense is already pretty good. The Heat have been successful because Wade, Bosh and Lebron were all committed to defense, and at this point I don't really trust Melo or Harden to make that commitment.

I think our best avenue to success may be to look for a great bench scorer and a workhorse PF, not a spectacular scorer to surround Harden with.

    Eh, I disagree.

Let's just pretend Melo and Canaan replace Lin and jones's minutes and number of shots available. I'd say what you gain on offense far outweighs what you lose on defense.

For the upteenth time you don't give up Parsons, you bring in a start his summer by trading away Lin and Asik and then go voer the cap to resign Parsons.

    Bev, Harden, Parsons, Melo, Howard.

Then use the MLE like the Heat to bring in vets.

You wrote in early March that Carmelo Anthony benefits a great deal by staying in New York one more season. Do you discount his apparent flirtation with the Bulls?

I don't at all. I think it's legit. The Bulls players definitely want him. I know Joakim Noah wants him, whether he admits it publicly or not. I'm not sure Bulls management wants to make the moves required to bring him in. They'll have to trade away some players--Taj Gibson perhaps, one of the favorite players of the whole organization. I'm not so sure they're willing to invest the kind of money....he's getting to the point where do you want him making $25-30 million on your salary cap in 3 to 4 years? Is that a smart deal to give him a $100 million dollar contract right now? Is it worth tearing your team to pieces? Carmelo should know this already. When Carmelo got his way to NY, they had to tear their team apart to get him there and ended up paying the price for it. I don't know why he'd want to go to another team that will tear itself apart to afford him. That is definitely on his menu of options. And I think the dark horse is the Houston Rockets. The Rockets have some flexibility with their cap. They'd have to make some trades but they definitely believe they can trade Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik and create a salary spot for Carmelo Anthony. I think that's the team that makes a major play for him if Carmelo indeed opts out which I really expect him to do.

Am I the only one who thinks that just filling out the roster with better role players and obtain better depth is the way to go? Unless Lebron or Durant become obtainable , I'm not all for trying to create space for one more superstar and then have all your money strapped to just three players. Just get better role players and I truly think we're good to go.

I disagree with the Rockets offense being pretty good. I mean, it's good, but a lot of it can be improved.

The offense has some serious lulls at times. Especially when Harden is on the bench.

Only one basketball is in play at any given time. Scoring usually is not a problem for the Rockets. Would our defense improve with Melo?

Morey says we need a better 3rd best player to win a championship, so I believe him.

Melo will bolt for the Bulls to play for Thibodeau..Chicago is a big market, they have a great coach, they have 1 Superstar coming back from injury..Bulls need offense..good fit

As if the Knicks would want to rebuild with a shaky PG, a decent center and a tweener PF that lacks on the defensive end. I know we overvalue our guys but Melo is going to cost an arm and a leg. Parson's sexy arms and legs.

If you're willing to pay Parsons, then you have to disregard his contract in factoring in his value. He will get paid handsomely (10-12mil) and if you don't want to pay him that kind of money, trade him for Melo.
