What is the best free GPS APP for android phone? Anyone using these? I have a full GPS but I do not always keep it in the car, so I would like to use my phone on some occasions.
Sorry, I mean offline GPS. Google Map uses data plan if you are driving. Sygic is not free right? I downloaded it but it says 7 day free, still have six days left .
Waze, across all platforms. It is a "crowd sourced" turn by turn and voice driving app bought by Google a while back. It has saved me many an hour waiting in traffic and kept me from getting several speeding tickets. I've used it in over 20 states without issue. https://www.waze.com
No sir, Sygic is about $33 for the North American maps after the trial. It's awesome though, use TomTom updated maps, has assisted lane guidance, trip advisor integration, etc. All offline btw. I use this from time to time. Has TripAdvisor integration as well. However it uses Open Street Maps for it's offline use. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.skobbler.forevermapng
You can tell google maps to download / save an area. And you can use it then with out data connection.... https://support.google.com/gmm/answer/2650218?hl=en
I tried Waze to get to work today and it showed me a shortcut that knocked about 10 minutes off my trip. I've been working here for YEARS and never knew about this shortcut.
Yup, Waze is pretty amazing. Can't believe other GPS providers haven't caught on to the "crowd-sourced" traffic updates. With that said, it is interesting to see the difference in the number of other users/drivers when I travel around the country. Houston has a tiny number of Waze users when compared to cities like San Francisco, Chicago, Boston and LA. And crazily, cities like Minneapolis and Milwaukee have more than any other city I've seen. For those that don't know, Waze displays other drivers by little icons on your map (you can turn this feature off) - it also gives you a total of "Waze users and updates in your area."
