It goes back further than that. We remember Houston tanking to tie Indiana for the worst record in the league for the 84 draft. We had their draft pick and were calling the coin flip. The team president said he would abide by what the fans chose. Our local paper (The Oregonian) held a contest and the result was "heads". When the coin flip came, he changed his mind and chose "tails". You got The Dream and we chose the second best center in that draft (aka The Nightmare) because with Glide and Jim Paxson we didn't need another wing player. And so the Bowie over Jordan disaster was created (to be repeated in 2007 with Oden over Durant).

We wanted to recreate Phi Slamma Jamma up in Portland in 1984 instead of the reunion in Houston in 1995. The jewelry that would have resulted from that union would have been amazing.

For the record, we sent Clyde back home as a favor to him. We received much better offers, but wanted to honor him for his terrific career in Portland. It sucks for us that he has pretty much written us off (his 50 Greatest Player jersey is a Rocket one, not a Blazer one), but he's a Houstonian at heart.

For the record, most of us embraced the Clutch City Rockets because we all love #22 and wanted to see him get his ring.

I wouldn't say we're "scared", but we'd be stupid not to dread a healthy Rockets team. Playoffs are about matchups, and we don't match up well with you.

Laugh away. You'll definitely be favored in the series, but that doesn't mean playing us will be like playing the Bucks.

Glad that you took the time to come visit our site, and give us some insight on what Portland fans think. The teams will always be linked due to Clyde, and for what it's worth, he always speaks fondly of his time on the Blazers. I've always liked your team, and I actually feel pain for you guys when it comes to Roy and Oden. That team could have really been something special with Roy, Oden, LMA, and Batum. It's a shame injuries took their toll so deeply.....it's something us Rockets fans know all too well. Hopefully you continue to stick around throughout our playoff series, and give your thoughts on how things are playing out.

It will be a tough series for both teams. I think homecourt will play key and we don't have it locked up yet. Hope we can contain Lilliard and others because we don't have anyone that can slow down LMA.

I got nothing against Portland fans or the team sad to hear maybe they do against us. The 2009 series was a great series with class shown on both sides. We had a thread about it here.

I sent an email to the Blazersedge thanking them for a great series and for giving Deke a standing O and got a nice one back from them.

LaMarcus Aldridge is the key to the series. Also defensive rebounding.

Outside of Harden, the king of flopping, who on our team is more of a flopper than any other average joe in the NBA? Wes Matthews flops more than anyone not named James on our team.

Thanks! I'm not much for trash talk, but I love getting insight from the other side. Clearly you all know your team better than do we (just as we know the Blazers better). Feel free to stop buy RipCityTwo.com (redirected to the Blazer page of SportsTwo.com) and give us your insights. You can also swear a blue streak on our forum, which can feel liberating.

You're right about the Clyde connection; many of us still feel connected to the Rockets for that reason. And you're right about the injuries. If not for the Frail Blazers, it would be Houston that would be known for having injuries taking rings away from them. Yao was unstoppable, especially with a healthy McGrady. We should have been the two dominant teams of the late 2000s.

For the record, we hate OKC, because they ruined our I-5 rivalry with the Supes and because we chose the wrong guy (again). So, we loved Morey fleecing Presti on the Harden deal. It would have been unbearable to have a Westbrook-Harden-Durant combo out West. Is there any kind of Red River Rivalry that flows through the NBA? I know Durant is a Longhorn, but still. OKC has never had to suffer; they were given an elite team.

And there is no team Portland hates more than the L*kers. We LOVED seeing Dwight screw them. So once again, we owe you our thanks.

Out of the heat of a playoff rivalry, you'll see there's a tremendous amount of respect in Portland for the Rockets.

LOL. You're right about Wes. The difference is he doesn't do the soccer flop where the brush grievously wounds him. He does the Battier flop. It's a stylistic thing. But to answer your question:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpzGMu2CVN0

And certainly, there's leftover flopping residue from Kevin Martin, who is worse than anyone you have on your current team.

But like I said, if it's not called, then it's legal. I have no beef with it; you guys do it really well. See our b****ing and moaning about it as envy.

Somewhat, but it's not super intense because Oklahoma sucks so much that you kind of feel sorry for people who live there.

I think they hate the Rockets more than the Rockets fans hate the Thunder.

I bet one could provide a flopping example of any relevant NBA player today. Everyone flops to embellish contact at times. Harden gives our team a stigma, but I don't believe the rest of the squad does it more than most teams.

Ha, worst thing you can ever say to any Houston sports franchise: "They control their destiny."

I think the Rockets should be able to handle the Blazers on paper, but man have they stunk it up lately. I don't like to see teams shuffle backward into the playoffs like they're doing.

Fair enough. I think you have a point. Whenever we see a Rocket flop, it's colored by the most egregious offenders.

I wouldn't use the argument of moral equivalence (i.e., everyone does it, therefore it's okay). You guys do it better than almost anyone. In that sense, you've surpassed the Spurs. You also flop more often. It's easy to tell because you all flop the same way, with flailed arms and the lying on the ground pretending you're hurt.

Please don't take my post as complaining. It's not. It's respect. If the refs don't call it, then it's all good IMO. The proper response isn't for my team to get frustrated, but to flop the same way. We haven't embraced that style of winning basketball, so instead we whine to the refs.

Yeah, and Houston is to far south. Dallas fans, otoh, hate OKC.

Never said that. But to start a thread about flopping as the main factor? Sorry thats just hilarious.

Portland is no pushover but like you said the rockets would be favored and rightfully so.

Ah, I figured there were enough 'Horns in the Houston area to hate anything from Oklahoma. Thanks for the clarification.

So, who do you all consider your biggest rival? For the Blazers, we effing HATE the L*kers. We respect the Rockets.
