Saturday Story Recap Oklahoma City 12, New Orleans 1 Already up 5-1, the RedHawks put up 7 in the 8th to turn this into a full-blown blowout. 6 of the starting 9 had multi-hit games; Gregorio Petit (all singles, 2 runs scored) and Domingo Santana (all doubles) had 3 each, while Austin Wates, George Springer, Jon Singleton, and Carlos Perez had 2 apiece. Everyone had a hit except for Japhet Amador, who went 0-2 with a K. Santana scored the first run of the game in the 2nd as Jonathan Meyer reached on a force out attempt. Singleton hit a 2-run single in the 3rd. In the 4th, Wates hit an RBI double and eventually scored on a Petit sac fly. Perez led off the 8th with a homer (2) to open the floodgates again. Ronald Torreyes got in on the action with an RBI double, and then Singleton cleared the bases with a double. He would score on an Erik Castro triple. Castro, who entered the game for Amador, finished it off by scoring on Santana's 3rd double of the night. Jake Buchanan threw 5 shutout innings on 54 pitches (40 strikes) and allowed 3 hits while fanning 5. Jose Cisnero went 2 innings and allowed a run on a single in the 6th, walked 1, and struck out 3. Chia-Jen Lo finished the final 2 innings, allowing 2 hits, walking 2, and striking out 1. Game 3 of this series features Nick Tropeano and Collin McHugh taking on Brian Flynn at 2:05. Corpus Christi 3, Tulsa 2 in 10 innings The Hooks walked off with the series win thanks to a Preston Tucker single (well, the ball bounced over the wall) in the bottom of the 10th. Nolan Fontana opened the scoring with a sac fly in the 3rd, and Delino DeShields added an RBI single in the 6th; he got thrown out trying to stretch it into a double. Tucker and Enrique Hernandez both had 2 hits; Matt Duffy went 3-5 and is now on a 5-game hitting streak; he's put up multi-hit efforts in 4 of those 5. Brady Rodgers was absolutely magnificent, as he was one walk from putting up 5 perfect innings. He struck out 5, and it took him 59 pitches (41 strikes) to get through this outing. Colton Cain couldn't hold the lead, as he gave up a pair in the 7th. One of those runs was unearned. In 2.2 innings, Cain gave up 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2. Jorge De Leon threw 1.1 scoreless and allowed 2 hits, walked 1, and fanned 2. Alex Sogard got the win after throwing a 1-2-3 10th inning. The Hooks will now begin a 3-game series with Springfield. In the opener, David Rollins and Aaron West will face Jonathan Cornelius. First pitch is at 1:10. Lancaster 7, Lake Elsinore 2 The JetHawks won the series and capped off a week where they went 7-0. After a Lake Elsinore run in the 3rd made it a 3-2 game, Lancaster put up a pair in the 4th and the 7th to run away with it. Tony Kemp led off the game with a single. He then proceeded to steal 2nd and ended up at 3rd on an error on the throw. Teoscar Hernandez then drew a walk and stole 2nd. They both scored when Rio Ruiz reached on an error; Rio, who finished 2-5, was credited with 1 RBI. Carlos Perdomo singled in the 2nd and eventually scored on a balk. Perdomo scored again in the 4th on a passed ball as Kemp stole 2nd again, and the passed ball put Kemp on 3rd. Hernandez hit a sac fly to bring Kemp home. Dan Gulbransen went 3-3 with an RBI single in the 7th; there was an error on the play that allowed Jake Rodriguez to score as well. Lance McCullers was a little erratic in his 3.2 innings. He allowed 2 runs on 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. He also uncorked 2 wild pitches in the process. J.D. Osborne allowed a hit over 1.1 scoreless, and Kyle Smith slammed the door shut with 4 scoreless. He walked 2 and struck out 6 without allowing a hit. The JetHawks will look for the sweep as Josh Hader and Chris Devenski will go this afternoon. They'll take on Joe Ross at 1:05 Pacific. Quad Cities and Great Lakes was rained out Doubleheader in progress. Andrew Thurman is taking Luis Chirinos in game 1 and Chris Lee will take on Greg Harris in game 2. Three Stars 3. Domingo Santana, LF, Oklahoma City 3-4, 3 2B, RBI, R Santana has gone 6-14 in his last 3 games after a 3-22 start. 2. Jon Singleton, 1B, Oklahoma City 2-5, 2B, 5 RBI, R Don't know why he was only credited with 4 RBI; no errors were committed on his single or double. He's striking out in almost 1/3 of his plate appearances, but is still sporting a 1.006 OPS. 1. Could Buchanan log a start with the Astros before the season is over? Rodgers could spend much of this season in OKC and could state his case for the Astros rotation next season. Honorable Mentions Gregorio Petit, SS, Oklahoma City: He could be serviceable if he's needed in Houston. George Springer, RF, Oklahoma City: Cue the usual. Dan Gulbransen, LF, Lancaster: Gulbransen is getting a shot to play every day and has run with it so far. Preston Tucker, LF, Corpus Christi: He's only walked once in 9 games.... but he's also only struck out twice in that same period. Came up with the game-winner last night. Goat System sweep, so Colton Cain is off the hook.
Speaking of the QC doubleheader, Andrew Thurman worked around a pair of singles to strike out the side in the 1st. QC and Great Lakes are scoreless heading into the 2nd.
Second round pick last year. Was good but not great in -A last year. Better than a K an inning. He has some work to do, but raw stuff is there and knows how to pitch.

If he keeps this up, you'll have to become a Hader only hater. Nice 10th inning for OKC that makes you wonder. Springer led off with a single, followed by a Singleton double (Springer held at 3rd). Stassi is intentionally walked, and Santana gets the walk off single. It wouldn't be a shock to see all of those guys by the end of the year.
Hader is absolutely dealing to start the year. Just turned 20 a week ago. 13 IP 0.85 WHIP 20 K And that's not even the best start, Velasquez is currently sporting an 0.69 ERA with a 0.46 WHIP, although he has struck out a pedestrian 16 hitters in 13 innings. They want to keep their stay in California as short as possible. Maybe that's what they tell prospects entering the Hangar. Those who pitch the best can leave quickly LOL
i am very excited about Hader. he was a lottery ticket that looks to be a jackpot winner. still very young, but he seems to be on the right track.
Really impressed with the early season for Teoscar Hernandez. Forget about the Lancaster effect, it is his 15.6% K-rate & 9.8% BB-rate that has me excited. With his plus physical tools, that bodes very well for him.
The benefits of a loaded farm system. The prospects that are talked about the most are not always the ones to succeed in the majors. Players like Hader and Teoscar Hernandez slide in to take the glory. The fan that follows the minor leagues on a daily basis might be privy to what's up, but the casual fan is waiting on the first round(#1 pick) prospects. These prospects that are not as well known are the ones that make me look forward to the future of this franchise.
OKC's Springer-Singleton-Stassi-Santana rather? And I would take that in a heartbeat right now over our 3-6...
