In the past 24 hours there has been a significant exodus from the Hof. Last night we found out UofH's two best players, Tashawn Thomas and Danuel House, have been denied their request to transfer and are going through the appeal process. We're hearing today that a recruit has also requested a release. This raises a lot of issues for discussion: 1. It's interesting that you hear three key players announcing this at the same time. Seems that there is definitely collusion and potentially tampering here. 2. Is this another example of these AAU influencers impacting NCAA hoops? 3. What is Kelvin Sampson's role in all this? Clearly the attention has been on him turning a new leaf and running a clean program. Maybe these guys' hangers-on don't have a place anymore. 4. Do we even care? Maybe Sampson needs a clean slate. Tashawn Thomas is a good player and would only benefit from Sampson's style of coaching, but House (although talented) is soft and seems undisciplined - clearly not a Sampson guy. Thoughts?
You answered your own question in #4. It is no longer the case that UH will bend over backwards to get good but not great recruits. From the Michael Young/Joe Young debacle, the George Williams and Alton Ford nonsense, to the House and Thomas BS. House wants to dictate how the offense will function and how the team should function.... Not going to happen with an elite coach like Sampson... Thomas wants to pick his position and demand touches... Nope. Both are nice players but not program changers. They learned from Joe Young. There won't be anymore useless assistants or guys on the payroll so prospects sign. Sampson will make sure of that and get players because he wins and knows the NBA game.
Thomas and House asked for their release before Sampson was even hired. There was a lot of talk of bull**** with House last season and some of it was supposedly coming from his family. They seem to think he should be NBA ready and don't seem to understand he isn't that good. I am sure the rest of the conference will be disappointed that House's bad defense won't be in the UH lineup next season.
Definitely. They're short sighted though. Sampson could have given this kid what he needs to reach his potential - discipline and hard work (plus experience knowing what it takes to make it in the NBA). I guess the point is, i never got the sense from House that he's up for hard work.
