How does DDJ's speed compare to Billy Hamiltons? Close at all? Hamilton has been a serious game changer when he gets on base for the Reds

    Matinee in the Crescent City.

What did Josh Hader do for an encore after starting off the season with 10 Ks?

    Lancaster with the...

    Recap

Oklahoma City 3, New Orleans 2

In a game that began at 11 AM, the RedHawks clinched the series thanks to a go-ahead 2-run single from Ronald Torreyes in the top of the 9th. Jon Singleton flew out to lead off the inning, but Max Stassi (who was lifted for Domingo Santana for pinch-running purposes), Erik Castro, and Jonathan Meyer all drew walks, and Torreyes laced a 1-0 pitch from Chris Hatcher into right field. Stassi put OKC on the board first in the 2nd with a solo homer (2). Gregorio Petit went 2-4 with a double out of the #2 spot.

Collin McHugh went 4 innings and allowed 2 runs (both in the 4th) on 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. Jose Cisnero allowed a hit and fanned 1 in a scoreless 5th inning. Nick Tropeano tagged in with 3 scoreless and allowed a hit, walked 1, and struck out 1. Jason Stoffel notched his 3rd save of the year by striking out 1 in a 1-2-3 9th.

OKC will look for the sweep as they've got Bobby Doran and David Martinez on the mound. Martinez, in his first time out, tossed 5 perfect innings. They'll be taking on Adam Conley at 7:00.

    Corpus Christi was off

The Hooks are preparing to play in front of their home crowd for the first time this season. They'll send out Ross Seaton and Luis Cruz to take on the Tulsa Drillers, who will go with Dan Winkler. First pitch is at 7:10.

    Lancaster 9, San Jose 4

The JetHawks wrapped up the opening homestand of the year by sweeping the Giants out of The Hangar. They trailed 2-1 after 4 but finished the game on an 8-2 run which included a 6-run 6th.

Tony Kemp had a huge night as he went 3-4 with 2 runs scored, a steal (2), and 6 RBI. His first was a sac fly in the 3rd. He drove in another when he grounded into a force out in the 5th, and then hit a grand slam (1) in the 6th to bust the game wide open.

    <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>.<a href="https://twitter.com/tonykemp6">@tonykemp6</a> says tonight’s slam was the first of his life. Keep eyes open for <a href="https://twitter.com/MiLB">@milb</a> story on his big night… <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23JetHawks&amp;src=hash">#JetHawks</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23Astros&amp;src=hash">#Astros</a></p>&mdash; Jason Schwartz (@jasondschwartz) <a href="https://twitter.com/jasondschwartz/statuses/454114779452276736">April 10, 2014</a></blockquote>

Teoscar Hernandez went 2-4 with an RBI triple in the 5th and went back-to-back with Kemp in the 6th with a solo homer (1). Before Kemp's slam, Jake Rodriguez drew a bases-loaded walk in the 6th. Carlos Perdomo was 2-3 with a run scored. Believe it or not, Carlos Correa went 0-5 with a strikeout and went hitless in this series.

Chris Devenski and Josh Hader both turned in solid outings, other than the fact that San Jose 3B Mitch Delfino took them both deep; both homers were of the 2-run variety. Devenski allowed 3 other hits and struck out 4 in 5 innings. Hader allowed 2 other hits and struck out 4 in 4 innings.

Lancaster will now hit the road for the first time this year, as they start off with 4 in Lake Elsinore. Mike Hauschild and Mark Appel will take on Colin Rea at 7:05 Pacific.

    Lansing 6, Quad Cities 4

The River Bandits will probably rue the missed opportunities; they left the bases loaded twice.

Tyler White drove in all 4 runs with a couple of RBI doubles in the 1st and the 5th, and Jack Mayfield was 2-4 with 2 runs scored.

Jandel Gustave went 2.2 innings and allowed 5 runs on 7 hits and struck out 4. Zach Morton allowed a hit over 1.1 scoreless and struck out 4. Kent Emanuel came on to pitch the final 4 innings and allowed a run on 3 hits and fanned 3.

QC will send out Evan Grills and Michael Feliz as they look to avoid the sweep. They will take on Jeremy Gabryszwski, a Crosby native. First pitch is at 7:05 Eastern.

    Three Stars

    3.

    [IMG] [IMG]

Zach Morton, RHP, and Kent Emanuel, LHP, Quad Cities

    Morton: 1.1 IP, H, 4 K
    Emanuel: 4 IP, 3 H, ER, 3 K

They both did a fine job of restoring order to the QC/Lansing game as they held the Lugnuts to just 1 run over the final 5.1 innings.

    2.

    Tyler White, 3B, Quad Cities
    2-4, 2 2B, 4 RBI

    All the RBIs!!!

    1.

    Tony Kemp, 2B, Lancaster
    3-4, GS (1), 6 RBI, 2 R, SB (2)

Kemp has recorded a hit in 4 of 7 games so far. All 4 of them have been multi-hit games.

    Honorable Mentions

Teoscar Hernandez, CF, Lancaster: Enjoyed a bit of a breakout in the Quad Cities; now, he'll look to build on that momentum.

Ronald Torreyes, 2B, Oklahoma City: Despite hitting at the bottom of the order, Torreyes has really become a factor in the OKC lineup.

Jason Stoffel, RHP, Oklahoma City: 3 appearances, 3 saves. Is this the year that he can finally break through to the Houston bullpen?

Max Stassi, C, Oklahoma City: Has come out of the gate guns blazing. Will this be the year he finally stays healthy?

Chris Devenski, RHP, Lancaster: Other than the 2-run homer he served up, Devenski was largely in control.

Nick Tropeano, RHP, Oklahoma City: I think we might see him in Houston later this year.

    Goat

Not very many appalling lines from this slate of games, but Jandel Gustave didn't have the best of nights after a near-perfect first appearance.

Never thought we'd see Correa go 0-9 at any time in his Lancaster run... only means that he's got a huge hot streak coming up that should propel him to the next level.

Anyone else following the potential no-hitter against the Hooks? Tulsa's starter has gone 6ip with only 1 walk, no hits given up

    Late June.

Technically, they only need to stay down 11 days to get the extra year of free agency... and that deadline is about to come. I still say both are super-2 deadline call ups (like Cosart/Villar).

Mark Appel has struck out 5 of the 6 batters that he has faced so far. No score in the Lancaster/Lake Elsinore game, and they're in the middle of the 2nd.

I think its more pathetic that they still don't really care about the results of the current MLB team... and if they did, Harrell wouldn't be starting .

Appel goes 5 and allowed 2 runs on 3 hits (solo homer) and struck out 6.

Lancaster leads 4-2 in the 6th inning.

If you plug that start into the Luhnow conversion calculator for Lancaster, it equates to 7 IP, 1 hit, 1 ER (solo HR), and he struck out 10.

Good start! (can't wait till he's out of that launch-pad).

Correa now below .300 after the hot start!

does the conversion calculator take consideration that he's almost 23 years old pitching in A+?

Median age for Class A Advanced was 23.4 last season.

So................................ Appel's age is appropriate for the California League.

No... but the recent appendectomy modifier prevents him from skipping levels.

I actually do think they'll "fast-track" Appel... once elite young pitchers "get it", or "prove they have it" they better be throwing MLB pitches or you're basically wasting their arms.

if apple didn't take 6 months to recover from his appendectomy, you think he would be in AA?

    i have my doubts.
