This is the saddest thread I've seen in a while.

Are people seriously so butt hurt by Colbert's conservative mocking?

Colbert the person is a conservative christian. He seems like a smart man and I am excited to see how he will craft this show. Besides, Letterman hasn't been funny, to me, in years...I know Colbert can do better entertainment wise.

nobody has brought up his politics. Its has nothing to do with why he is a bad choice. Ferguson would of been a far smarter choice

A wonderful choice to follow David Letterman in that chair. Brilliant! Honestly, I can think of no one I'd rather have hosting Late Night, unless it was Jon Stewart, and I like the gig he has now. Stupendous news!

    That was ****ing stupid, sorry.

Bummer we're gonna lose the Report. I know Colbert will be good whatever he does, but I hate to lose the character.

how is this going to work?

Btw, they should have put Louis CK, it would have been nice since he had that episode on his show where he is supposed to get Letterman's spot.

Uh Ferguson has said time and again that he doesn't want the job. Also, his ratings have been dropping and it's why CBS honcho Les Moonves was chatting up Chelsea Handler about taking over his slot.

He's gonna kill it. Great snag/replacement CBS.

Love Colbert but this is a horrible idea.

People thought Conan didn't translate to that time slot? Then, they are really in for disappointment.

While Colbert's success won't surprise me, I do think he'll surprise a lot of folks who are having a hard time wrapping their heads around the guy hosting a show like Late Night. I was (and am) a huge fan of Letterman, and I don't think CBS could have done better than Stephen. Wait and see! :)-

Um, he does a Q&A session with the audience out of character every night before the show.

I think Colbert will do well. But, I agree with you about Ferguson. I think he's brilliant at his job.

I like Ferguson but I would be just as surprised by his selection as I was about Colbert. I don't think either's previous work translates well to the The Late Show. Ferguson's late night talk is not really appropriate for that earlier time slot, as much as we may like it that demographic likely won't.

I agree. Ferguson does such a great job of putting the person he's interviewing at ease. He would have been the best choice. Such a shame.

She's more of a name, than actually being funny. Maybe the demographics have shifted and more women are tuning into late night chat shows?

He is not a conservative in real life. He is pretty much the opposite of his character.

Not to get too D&D here but believe it or not, there is such a thing as a liberal Catholic.
The ethos follows the philosophy of Jesus, nonviolence, acceptance, tolerance, equality etc. It was a pretty big thing back in the days of Civil Rights and The Vietnam War, promoting equal rights and against the war. Remember, John F. Kennedy was Catholic. Lots of Catholic priests of the era helped conscientious objectors avoid the draft and they supported an underground railway to get draft objectors to Canada. This new Pope leans much more that way now.

I believe Mr. Colbert's family was involved in this type of Catholicism.

Gotta make it to a taping of the Colbert Report before it's all said and done.
