Marvel is well aware of what they're doing, they actually had the date set in stone as a Marvel Studios Movie TBD, then Batman/Superman decided to release their movie on that exact date knowing full well what they were doing in. The expected Marvel to step down.

Now the movie will officially be Captain America 3, even though it's been all but confirmed for a few weeks now. Someone at Marvel came out and said they're not budging on the date and that's even more obvious now.

Everything I just referenced can be found on superherohype.com

I'm sure it'l eat into revenue for both studios short-term, but these movies bank over time and kill overseas. There might be an element of all ships rising with the tide here...

So I watched the movie twice in the cinema and I found it better than:

    Captain America 1
    Thor 1
    Thor 2
    Iron Man 2
    Iron Man 3

...in no particular order. Anyway, just my opinion.

Superman kills in the movie, which is already a far departure from the character normally presented in the movies. His character in MoS was searching for answers, receiving different advice and figuring out where he stood in the world. Which is another departure from the usual character that stands for hope, justice, and the American way just because.

Anyways, this thread is about Cap 2, so i'll stick to this. Really enjoyed the movie. Only complaint I had was the dialogue was really cheesy and corny at times, and I thought some of the special effects were distractingly bad.

Other than that, a massive improment on Cap 1 (which I thought was pretty terrible). I think I just really enjoyed a Marvel movie that didn't throw a joke a minute at us, and rather treated us seriously, giving time to developing story and characters, while still giving us the usual comedy every now and then.

    Also,
I was super dissapointed in the Nick Fury revealing the eye bit. I had no idea why I figured it would look badass, but it didn't. Even Deathstroke from "Arrow" had a better eyepatch reveal.

Let me guess; you think man of steel was good?
It's pretty obvious you have an affinity for Superman.

    Regarding Nick Fury:

They pretty much killed his whole comics backstory in this movie. He's supposedly a WWII vet who was injected with the infinity formula, which slows his aging. Digressing: He was also actually the head of the Howling Commandos (instead of Cap). His backstory being blown up isn't the biggest deal as I've relaxed on nerd rage over the years, but still a little disappointing.

In Iron Man 2 he told Tony Stark he knew his Dad. I knew about the Howling Commandos part, but isn't it possible that the infinity formula part is still true? They haven't really discussed it.

When I catch a hint of someone thinking "Man of Steel" was anything but hot garbage, I'm just....flabbergasted. It gasts my flabber.

It just debuted on HBO. Even Uverse, which is notorious for giving butt-kissy grades on movies, only gives it 1.5 out of 4 stars. Which for me is about right.

I caught myself watching parts of it again because it really was a lost opportunity. Great casting. Awesome effects. But the story and the dialogue were horrific. Horrific. Multiply "really stupid" times 5 and then raise it to the 3rd power...and that's how stupid MoS was.

Movie? No....MoS was a video game.

And that's where the line of demarcation was drawn, I think. The majority of MoS's fans are probably younger than 30, probably younger than 25, really into video games; and being younger, the iconography of MoS as established in comics and earlier films (that Clark wasn't puling and mopey; that Lois Lane, however hot Amy Adams is, should have black hair [minor detail]) doesn't matter so much.

And for someone NOT to criticize that movie's dialogue ("I WILL FIND HIM!") while criticizing Winter Soldier's dialogue? For a comic book film, which must be aimed at the masses in general, Winter Soldier's dialogue was actually above par.

I wasn't going to say anything, but yeah...the dialogue was the worst part. I love how the general magically knew they were trying to terraform the earth into Krypton. Lois showing up instantly wherever Superman was no matter how long they had been fighting or over what distance. The fact that the last hour and a half or so was just one long fight scene (I love visual effects, I'm a complete sucker for them, and even I thought this movie wasn't very good). The incredibly forced humor bits...I could go on. It was still a hell of a lot better than Superman Returns though.

Hey everyone, Superman's weakness is Kryptonite...hey look...Superman is getting beaten up by normal human beings because he's on a Kryptonite island. Wait...Superman is now lifting this entire landmass?

Saw it last night. Very good film. And this is coming from the person who made this post:

Looking forward to Captain America 3. Scarlett Johansson and Robert Redford did a great job in this one.

I thought MoS was okay, I'm just pointing out some issues I had with it. I really enjoyed Captain America 1 (though I understand why others didn't, and I was a fan of Cap before the movie), and obviously I loved Cap 2.

In other words I don't think anyone is going to take issue with you liking them. Personally I was just pointing out some hypocrisy in that fellow's statements.

I thought MoS was okay, probably a 7/10. Cap 2 was way better. MoS Could have and should have been a lot better. I still enjoyed it though, I thought some of the performances were very strong, the villains were awesome and the action intense (although overwhelming at the end). I don't really care for Superman, I've always been a Batman guy myself

I'm a little late to the party, but I just saw it.

Pretty badass, I must admit. Better than The Raid 2. I only wished they gave Black Widow more skin time. She's way too covered up throughout the movie. And why do bad guys insist on shooting at Cap's shield when he's running across an open field? Shoot at his legs.. he'll stumble and fall, and then you can shoot him in the face.

The winter soldier reminds me of a less social, emo version of Jax from Mortal Kombat.

The fight scenes were awesome. Pretty cool that his shield is a multi-purpose object. Protects him from long falls, deflects missiles, cuts locks, boomerang... too bad it doesn't let him fly.

I didn't get any of the references in this movie like everyone has said (i.e. that skull guy, steven strange, agent 13, etc.). Good thing I read this bbs, so I can talk to my friends about the movie like a true nerd and look smart and informed.

Your link threw me on a trail here...I'm going to spoiler for those who haven't seen the movie yet and what not.

These were all other links from screen rant, and it reminded me of something I read a few months ago. Sebastian Stan has a 9 picture deal, and Chris Evans has a 6 picture deal. The 5th / 6th movies on Evan's deal presumably will be Cap 3 / Avengers 3. Sebastian Stan has only been in 2 movies on his deal, with the third being Cap 3 (I'm assuming he won't be in Avengers 2). Chris Evans has recently said he wants to get into directing, and maybe a bit less acting but that he'd finish off his contract.

My point is it looks a lot like they're going to follow the comics and have Steve Rogers killed off. (if Chris Evans decides he no longer wants to do it, I'd assume they'd give him an extension as long as he doesn't become a diva and he still wanted to do it) From there Bucky takes up the mantle of Captain America (even has adamantium armor if I recall, haha), Steve Rogers gets ressurected, but that's neither here nor there. I can't fathom them having Sebastian Stan only as Winter Soldier for 9 movies unless he's getting multiple solo films.

    Opinions?

I didn't know that the technician brainwashing Winter Soldier was Ed Brubaker -- that is both amazing and awesome.

Yeah I'm not sure. I was thinking that maybe they would setup the Civil war storyline and possibly kill Cap in the third Avengers but they have been setting everything around the Gems and Thanos so idk if they will kill him. Or if they are passing that storyline to the Guardians...all I know is that I'm excited for the Guardians of the Galaxy.

I'm jacked about Guardians. As much as I loved Winter Soldier, and I was excited about seeing it...Guardians has been the movie I've most wanted to see. I was thinking the exact same thing; that they might do something in that regard. With that said I'm quite sure they're going to have the Infinity War for Avengers 3. As far as how Cap dies in there? I'm not sure. Perhaps they don't have him politically assassinated, but instead killed by Thanos during Avengers 3? I can't picture them killing him in Cap 3 with Chris Evans still under contract for another movie, and it obviously being Avengers 3. Whedon has explicitly stated that Thanos is the 'end boss', so what better story? Plus why else would they be making things arbitrarily Infinity Stones? (the Cosmic Cube was a completely separate entity in and of itself in the comics)

Perhaps Rogers gets tired of the politics involved with being Cap and fakes his death? Which of course opens up the whole Secret Avengers thing (or they could at the end of Avengers 3 reveal Cap is actually a Skrull - how much of a mind **** would that be?), but anyway then he eventually gets pulled in to Avengers 3 of course (and eventually dying?)

Not to mention ALL of this is ignoring the obvious; the Guardians are totally going to be in Avengers 3 right? It has to be this huge cataclysmic battle. They're all honorary Avengers in the comics, and Iron Man is a Guardian is the current run.
