I hear you. It's just that I would have swore that one of the big discussions after 911 was over removing the pilot's ability to turn off the transponder. Also, didn't they report that after the transponders were turned off and the plane turned, it dropped to 12000 ft in an effort to avoid radar and other air traffic?

Standards are much higher for airline companies and there is a contract in place that you will arrive safely to your destination. Airlines have ABSOLUTE liablity for accidents and death of passengers. Look up Article 17 of the Warsaw Convention.

Now the Malaysian government is saying MH370's final transmission was "Good night Malaysian three seven zero" not "All right, goodnight".

They can't even get a simple detail like that right.

This investigation is never going to get anywhere with the Malaysian government leading the way.

Possible signals from lost jet's black boxes heard

PERTH, Australia (AP) — Underwater sounds detected by a ship searching the southern Indian Ocean for the missing Malaysia Airlines jet are consistent with the pings from aircraft black boxes, an Australian official said Monday, dubbing it "a most promising lead" in the monthlong hunt for the vanished plane.

he Australian navy's Ocean Shield, which is carrying high-tech sound detectors from the U.S. Navy, picked up two separate signals late Saturday night and early Sunday morning within a remote patch of the Indian Ocean far off the west Australian coast that search crews have been crisscrossing for weeks. The first signal lasted two hours and 20 minutes before it was lost. The ship then turned around and picked up a signal again — this time recording two distinct "pinger returns" that lasted 13 minutes, Houston said.

The airliner's black boxes normally emit a frequency of 37.5 kilohertz, and the signals picked up by the Ocean Shield were both 33.3 kilohertz, said U.S. Navy Capt. Mark Matthews. But officials contacted the device's manufacturer and were told the frequency of black boxes can drift near the end of their shelf lives.

The Ocean Shield was slowly canvassing a small area trying to find the signal again, though that could take another day, Matthews said.

The ping locator is designed to detect signals at a range of 1.8 kilometers (1.12 miles), meaning it would need to be almost on top of the black boxes to detect them if they were on the ocean floor, which is about 4,500 meters (14,800 feet) deep.

I bet they would have found the plane by now if not for the morons in charge of the operation in Malaysia.

Judging by the timing of all the announcements, who has made them, what they have said, and who is doing the actual search, I'd suggest that most of the main players in the region either had a rough idea where this plane ended up or knew exactly where it ended up from a very early stage.

I think they all waited to say anything in the hope that civil authorities were going to work out where this plane had ended up, and when that didn't happen, they stepped forward.

No one in the region would want to give away their full a I traffic tracking capabilities. You also have to keep in mind that if they tracked this plane into the ocean, they would have known there was no need to rush out and say "We track all air traffic across Asia down the the size of a large bird and the plane is right here".

I think that is all FAR more likely to be the case than this plane not being detected by the air defense of nations like Australia, China and the United States.

I know, but I think it makes far more sense than a plane going missing.

    Don't you agree?

Some guy posted this on Reddit -- he apparently collects trash along the beach or something similar.

what I got from the comments was he works at a trash collection area for a land fill on the east coast. Not combing the beach.

Australia, but Uprising is saying his job is on east coast which wouldn't seem to be the coast to find any debris.

^ However, they receive deliveries of trash for the landfill from the west coast right where you might expect to find random items like this weeks after the crash.
