Everything about the movie is well done, and I definitely enjoyed it. But I just don't think I can put it ahead or on the same level as Avengers. I don't think the stand alones, however good, can quite reach that bar.
I have no idea what HAM is, but the ship scene gave me a head ache. Too much camera movement. After that its all good. I'd say its on par with the first Captain America movie.
It was pretty good. Thought it would be better honestly. It was better than the first and better than the Thor movies. I want to like these movies but just can't really get excited for them for some reason. I was one of the few that thought Avengers was not that good though.
Batroc the leaper(Main pirate)....ive always wondered who it was because if you played Marvel vs Capcom 3,Cap mentions him in a win quote.
Mid-Credits Scene Description: In the Captain America: The Winter Solider mid-credits scene, Baron Von Strucker, as played by Thomas Kretschmann, is in his underground lair. Another man approaches Strucker and says, “It’s over. Fury has released everything to the public.” Strucker replies, “Everything he knows about.” The other man adds, “Mr. Strucker, if they get word of our work here…if they find out that we serve Hydra…” Strucker interrupts, “Hydra, S.H.I.E.L.D., two sides of a coin that’s not of a currency.” As Strucker talks, he walks past numerous advance technology devices and workers at their computers. Finally, Strucker stops right in front of Loki’s scepter. Strucker continues, “What we have is worth more than any of them ever knew. We’ve only scratched the surface and already…” Then, Strucker starts walking again. Strucker says, “There are other facilities doing Hydra’s good work around the world. We’ll feed them to Captain America and his colorful friends.” The other man adds, “Keep them off our scent. What about the volunteers?” Strucker answers, “The dead will be buried so deep their ghosts won’t be able to find them.” The other man asks, “And the survivors?” Strucker smiles and responds, “The twins.” Then, the camera pans to a man and a woman in two separate glass cells. The man is running around his cell at a high rate of speed and slamming into the walls. The woman is sitting on the ground and levitating objects with her mind. Strucker continues, “Sooner or later, they will meet the twins. It’s not a world of spies anymore. It’s not even a world of heroes. This is the age of miracles, doctor. There’s nothing more horrifying than a miracle.” The woman crushes one of the blocks she’s levitating. Mid-Credits Scene Explanation: Baron von Strucker is a nemesis of Captain American and a leader of Hydra. He will be one of the villains featured in Avengers: Age of Ultron. The twins featured at the end are Pietro and Wanda Maximoff, better known as Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. They will also appear in Avengers: Age of Ultron. In the comic books, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are mutants and members of The Avengers. However, because Fox owns the rights to Marvel’s mutant characters, they will not be referred to as mutants in Avengers: Age of Ultron and their origins will be altered. After The Credits Scene Description: In the Captain America: The Winter Soldier after the credits scene, a Captain America exhibit can be seen at the Smithsonian museum. The camera pans across display uniforms of Captain America and his friends. Then, the camera focuses on a plaque with information about James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes. As the camera pans out at the crowd, it focuses in on the man who is reading the plaque, who is none other than The Winter Soldier. After The Credits Scene Explanation: By visiting the Smithsonian, The Winter Soldier has just confirmed that he really is who Captain America told him that he was From here: http://comicbook.com/blog/2014/04/0...fter-the-credits-scenes-detailed-explanation/
I think, for most people, the first CA stunk. But from a lot of opinions, the sequel > the first one.
Movie went hard for me. Had that Batman/Bond archetype (but obviously way lighter than Nolan's Batman) but fully embraced its superhero roots. The movie proves the Captain America franchise can stand on its own. This goes right up there with Iron Man and Avengers. And this thing is gonna make over a billion (literally) just like Avengers did. The superhero "fad" isn't going anywhere. Like I've said before, these are movies based on tried and true characters and storylines that have existed for 50+ years. They're enjoyable movies because the concepts were enjoyable, not because people are into the genre at the moment.
Spoiler Quicksilver/Scarlett Witch, "miracles" and Hydra being involved in Avengers really don't excite me at all. But Whedon probably knows what he's doing. I was concerned the Quicksilver usage was a way for the studio to slap whoever owns the X-Men rights in the face, and wasn't going to be a substantial plot device.
That's what I figured. Yeah, I really like Marvel's unlimited service. It's not always 100% up to date (they lag a bit on really popular books, like the newest Guardians of the Galaxy run), but there's a massive amount of comics available. They definitely add new ones each week. I read Age of Ultron and Avengers vs X-men on there last year for example, and both are very recent. It's a really good value, and like I said it prevents having a ton of clutter.
I don't think it's a fad either. I do think there is definitely opportunity for over-saturation but if they keep making good movies like this I'll keep paying. I loveeee Marvel's characters. As for the other thing, I'm sure they're sticking it to Fox in a way but Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are both Avengers. I definitely don't think it's coincidence they both randomly decided to use the characters at the same time though.
Hmmm, I might look into that but it won't be the same since I like to resell the comics just in case I need some extra cash.
After having seen it three times.. yes, three times, not because I am a fanboy or anything, but because I saw it opening night, my son wanted to see it Sunday, and another person wanted to see it Saturday, so I said what the heck, I'll watch it again (and again).. I give it 8.5/10 Very, very good. FAR superior to the 'First Avenger' film. I do have a few questions for the comics' fans, and then a couple of extremely minor nit-picks. First, question for people with good knowledge of the comics' canon: Spoiler Regarding the events in Winter Soldier - it appears in the movie that SHIELD was completely demolished, which is a pretty big deal, not only for the Marvel movies, but also for the TV series as well. Is SHIELD still around as a functioning entity, despite what we see at the end? If so, how? And if not, then what takes its place, if anything? Also, a related question regarding Marvel: Agents of SHIELD Spoiler If you have been watching the series, you know they have been dealing with an entity known as 'The Clairvoyant' all along, but in the most recent episode, it appears they have come to the conclusion that the 'Clairvoyant' is not a psychic, but instead someone with access to all of SHIELD's files, and uses that information to behave as though he were a psychic. But in Winter Soldier, we learn that there has been a Hydra presence all along, hidden inside SHIELD, and that the presence was essentially an Artificial Intelligence constructed from the mind of Arnim Zola, the Hydra scientist from First Avenger. Agent Sitwell claims that the Zola 'program' is actually powerful enough to extract a person's future by analyzing their past data. This seems very much like the Clairvoyant to me. Anyone else thinking the same thing - that the 'Clairvoyant' they have been chasing all season long on Agents of SHIELD was actually the Zola Program? And finally a few little nitpicks: Spoiler First: In the 'bridge fight', when the Winter Soldier and his team are shooting at Cap & Black Widow, WS fires a rocket at Cap, who holds up his shield as protection. The rocket impacts the shield, explodes, and the blast hurtles Cap backwards through the air and off the bridge, crashing into a bus on the street below. This doesn't seem right to me. Cap's shield is supposed to be able to withstand basically any sort of impact with flinching - I mean, he took a full blow from Thor's Hammer and all it did was create a big BOOM in the other direction, but it didn't cause Cap to move at all. And now an RPG blasts him 50 feet away? I think they screwed that up, but maybe I am wrong. Anyone else notice this? Second: Romanov was shot through the shoulder, a pretty serious wound, and by the next day she is posing as the Security Councilwoman, and apparently completely healed, and her wound is never mentioned again, nor seen to hinder her in any way, even during her fight in the Council Chamber. I know it's 'movie convenience', but come on. LOL Third: Ok, maybe this is just a difference in philosophy, but the 'bad guys' inside of SHIELD really really LOOKED like Bad Guys from the very beginning of the movie. You could tell who the bad guys were going to be just from looking at them - dressed in black, unshaven, scowling unpleasant faces, slicked-back evil hair, sinister darting eyes.. I mean, really? They TRIED to make Rumlo not seem like a bad guy at the beginning, but he just turned out to be stereotypical *Bad Guy*, just like scarred-face dude and Creepy Southern White-Haired Guy in the Star Destroyer ERR Heli-Carrier. Yeah, a little nit-pick, I know. But would it have killed them to not telegraph that angle so much? Fourth: The Falcon. Wow was that convenient. I dunno what it is, but the transition from flannel-wearing retired trauma-counselor to badass super-nimble flying-and-fighting-and-shooting jetpack-wings wearing guy was a little too quick and easy for my taste. And something about the special effects for the Falcon just didn't seem right. I can't put my finger on it, but it was a little jarring to me, compared to everything else. Other minor things.. Boy I sure would love to have one of those 'cut through the bottom of the car and also through several feet of concrete, quickly and silently so you can conveniently escape' torches.. oh and, nobody thought to chase them into the hole? Especially with Fury in seriously bad shape, the Winter Soldier didn't think to just jump in there after him and kill him then? Nahh, he made a hole and escape, he gets to get away for now. Why? BECAUSE! I would have loved to have seen even more combat between Black Widow and Winter Soldier, there was not enough! And of course Cap too, but I could really have done with slightly less insane shaky-cam. Did you all catch the 'Steven Strange' reference by Sitwell? Also, I assume everyone noticed the engraving on Fury's tombstone? Ezekiel 25:17 .. LOL GOD, Robert Redford looks old. And what the HECK is wrong with Garry Shandling?? Is he sick or something? Oh, one last thing - when Steve was visiting 'Really Old Peggy', that was NOT a young actress in old makeup, was it? Looked like just a different old actress, which is always MUCH better than the terrible makeup jobs when they try to make someone young look really old. Right? The reason I ask, there was nobody list in the end credits as 'Old Peggy'... if it WAS Young Peggy in Old Peggy makeup, then it was the best old-age makeup job I have ever seen.
