Fantastic premiere. Couldn't disagree more on Daario. I hated the old guy. The new one fits much better, in my opinion.

Absolutely loved the exchange between Arya and Hound about naming her sword. Also, the look on her face when she realized it was Polliver she was seeing. Equal parts funny and creepy.

Her part in the tavern I thought played much better in the books, though. Not sure why they felt the need to change that but it was still good.

Did anyone have any trouble understanding certain characters in the episode? There were multiple lines by Jaime that I had to rewind because I couldn't understand him and even after 2-3 times I still couldn't figure out what he said. One line in particular to Tywin just before Tywin gave up trying to send him to Casterly Rock ("HDHDKFDJLDLKFJ would be nice" or something like that).

Hated the original Daario as well. He was just..off. Not sure.

This one may have been better received if he wasn't such a huge contrast to the last one though. For me it's not that I preferred the other one, it's just a jarring change.

You went from Fabio to Eric Bana. Totally different characters.

Have to agree. The old Daario was a ridiculous pretty boy. "Good-looking" is one thing, but underwear model is another. The new guy fits the character.

I didn't ask my wife her opinion on the new guy. She probably would have agreed with me. I do remember how sorely disappointed she was two years ago at the "Ja'qen Haqar is dead" scene: "Quer dizer que esse feinho repôs aquele gatão?" ("You mean that this ugly little dude replaced that hot guy?")

No trouble here. We all have our deaf moments, though. Mine was at one of the first "Pirates of the Caribbean" sequels when they were asking people about Sparrow's whereabouts. I felt like Peppermint Patty talking to Miss Othmar: "Wah wah wah wah...." (Except I didn't understand her.)

Ice was not in Robb's possession, the whole time it was at Kings Landing. Great families have greatswords made up of Valyan steel but Lannisters lost theirs hundred of years ago. In the books they go into details about having a greatsword, Tywin's own brother was lost when he looking for their sword.

I think they were trying to imply that House Stark is no more, burning the direwolf scabbard and all. Btw, Jon Snow also has a Valyrian sword!

I don't know what I would do without Game of Thrones wikia, as a non-reader of the books. There are just so many ******* characters. I was trying to remember where I heard of the House Martell before and it reminded me that it was the house that Tywin married off Cersei's daughter off to. So if this Oberyn guy goes crazy and kills off Lannisters, is he going against the "truce" made by the marriage?

Like he said in last nights episode.. Lannisters aren't the only ones that pay their debts! And actually Tyrion was the one who married Myrcella to Trystane Martell.

I thought it was Tywin. Cersei argued with him and said it was like when she got married off to the Robert?

EDIT: Oh nevermind, it was Tyrion. Hard to remember the times when Tyrion had some power at this point because of Tywin.

I guess technically the marriage is between House Baratheon and Martell. Though I bet Mycella is Jaime's too. Wasn't she blonde?

Definitely enjoyed the premiere especially the end with the Hound and Arya.

On the new guy I don't mind him, but it is quite a jarring change in look between the Daario of last season. It would've been nice if they could've gave him more characters from his book version since they were changing people anyway. Didn't expect a blue beard, but at least the gold tooth and different colored eyes.

    Oh well

All of Cersei's kids were with Jaime. All of Robert's kids(the b*stards) have black hair

Yup, definitely blonde and Jaime's daughter. And she was married into the Martells to make peace as the Martells have long been looking to get revenge for what they did to their family during the sack of Kings Landing. Tyrion didn't want Martells to lineup with the Stark, Baratheons, or any other family not named Lannister.

Ser Ilyn Payne, the executioner, kept Ice. As we see at the beginning of the episode, Tywin has reclaimed it to have it melted down and reforged.

Not a fan of new Dario. This guy isn't as pompous and alpha as the book character. Too soft. The other guy had the right attitude.

When I watched last season, I was reading book 1 and lamented how the show was ruining the books for me. Now, I've read all the books and discovered last night that having read ahead has ruined the show for me. In retrospect, I should have watched the whole show and then read the books afterward. The books are still interesting because they have much more complexity.

I agree with this, though I don't know if its the acting so much as the writing/directing. I believe none of the Daario scenes from this first episode came from the book -- the show always seems weakest where they go off-script.

Also, this guy is too western. The blue beard and the audacious style described in the book gave him an exotic flair. This guy not only doesn't have a blue beard, he doesn't have any flair at all.

I do like the casting for the Red Viper. He's not at all like I picture him, but that's mostly because I think he should be a ninja with a name like that. His accent makes me think of Inigo Montoya sometimes, but I thought the actor did a great job with the character.

Ok that was an awesome episode and all, but the one thing I found most awful was that it seems the Cersei is going to find out about Tyrion's true love.. that does NOT bode well at all.

and no I have not read the books, don't tell me if it is awful news..

I too have read the books, but I think the show changes enough details that I still enjoy it. Plus there is just something about seeing something onscreen, even when you know what's gonna happen.

They have changed Arya's story by far the most thus far. Adding stuff, while leaving some things out entirely, but I think all the changes have actually been for the better, TV Arya's story has been much better than book Arya's story IMO

    Book Spoiler
In the books she ultimately leaves the hound to die when he's wounded, pretty coldy. At this point in the show it seems hard to imagine them playing it out that way. While not friends, they certainly seem to have develop a rapport. But they are beginning to portray her as being pretty cold, so maybe they do. I'd be fine either way

Why do the Lannisters have such large beds?

    They put two twins together to make a king. {rimshot}
