Yeah sorry LOF's, Lin has **** a brick against stiff competition this year. Lets pray to Jesus he gets his **** together for the playoffs like that one game against Portland. Thats the Lin we need.
How did you get this info? Yes, as Lin goes, the team goes it seems against the west. You left out GS for some reason.
the standard is ridiculous. Lin has to have stellar stats across the board, Bev meanwhile can make 2 great hustle plays and he's played a great game! Just like tonight, if Bev made that steal, we'd hear the whole "wow, what grit!!!defensive intensity the team desperately needs!! etc etc"
Lin has a pretty good game, OP posts stats that indicate otherwise to revive some hate. This hate is ridiculous. Hate on his unreasonable fans (only a few) but dont hate on the guy. Kthxbye
9 points and 9 rebounds per game. 34% shooting and 20% from the charity stripe. AND we won our only game against OKC without him. Clearly he's garbage and should be replaced with Omer.
Last year, Lin has better stats vs west top8 than the rest, part of it just randomness. OP should add mins, FGA, TS% for better understanding.
To look at this data fairly, one should first look at games where he played 24 minutes or more (i.e., at least half the game). If a player is playing less than half the game, he is not in a position to really impact the game on most nights. Against the West's top 4 (excluding Houston) (SA, OKC, LAC, POR), Lin has played 12 games. The team's record in those games is 6-6. 3 Wins against Portland, 2 wins against SA, 1 win against OKC. The 6 losses: 3 against OKC and 3 against the Clippers. Also, of this group, he has played 30 minutes or more in 6 of these games. The team's record is 4-2 in this subgroup (2 losses to the Clips, 2 wins against SA, 1 win against OKC and 1 win against Por). In the overall group of 12 games, his averages are 11.25 pts, 4.25 assists, 2.3 TOs, and 37.2% shooting. In the subgroup of 6 games, he has averaged 14.8 pts, 5 assists, 1.5 TOs, and 37.3% shooting. (The last game vs. the Clips where he had a 1/8 shooting night pretty much accounts for why he is under 40% shooting in the subgroup). You can make the argument that Lin can be quite productive for the Rockets in the playoffs if he is given starter's minutes and actually gets to play the bulk of those minutes with the starters. In the playoffs, you need to win 4 games out of 7 in each series. So, even if he has a bad game in a series, he can have a stronger performance in next game based on these data. Due to Beverley's injury, even if Bev suits up for the playoffs McHale is going to have to ration his minutes in order to allow him to last (and just out of a sense of decency, he should try to preserve the young man's career and not turn him into Brandon Roy Part II). That means Lin should get a lot of time on the floor, especially if he is handling his defensive assignment reasonably well. Lin's defensive stats are pretty good when he has had to play in place of Beverley, so the Rockets can win playoff series against any of the western conference teams with Lin playing a lot of minutes.
Basically to sum it up... If we only count the games he was playing well and since he was playing well deserved and received more minutes his numbers look better!! I don't know why people continue to try to push these stats that act as if the key to unlocking the productive Lin is simply to give him big minutes when it's blatantly obvious that the key for Lin to get big minutes is to play productively.
