Mentioning Jeremy Lin and Jackie Robinson in the same sentence is disrespectful to Jackie Robinson.. I don't think Lin gets hated on because he's Asian, I think he gets hated on because he was over hyped and got a huge contract for it. Yao Ming was a vary loved individual, who if was able to stay healthy would have been a top 5 ceter all time IMO, and Jackie Robinson is the only number retired throughout the entire MLB.. lets no make silly comparisions

Exactly, black people did more for this country than Asians ever will.

Anyone comparing Asians to our great black pioneers should be shamed and deported.

Right, 317 voted yes and only 29 of them are registered users. And if you take a look at the 29 people who voted yes, a few of them are clearly not Lin fans. Are you saying that DudeWah, SuperBeeKay, VoiceofAus, etc are LOFs? And if you have a brain, you can tell someone has just been keep voting yes anonymously in order to make your stupid thread more legitimate. And I will not be surprised at all if that someone is you.

The sad thing is Lin did play the race card. He wanted the sympathy for not being drafted despite growing up in an affluent community in California where all he had to do was focus on basketball. He wasn't dealing with murder, rape, drugs and gang violence that countless African American stars have had to deal with AND never use as an excuse. Look at what TMac went through in terms of personal loss. Harden grew up in Compton. These guys never use their upbringing as an excuse and their fans don't either. Looking at the pity seeking behavior of Lin and his fans from China makes me understand a lot about why certain people are extremely insecure and not well suited for certain professions. There are exceptions like Yao, but certainly not the norm.

Tldr; if Lin wasnt Asian, he would not be in the NBA. To mention Jackie Robinson is gravely insulting and I am an unbiased white Caucasian male.

To be fair, Caucasian males are probably among the least clueless people about race, especially in this country.

How much discrimination Lin faced is debatable, but to say it didn't t impact his basketball career is downright ignorant.

You're also making a whole lot of bad assumptions about growing up poor based here. You should probably not use Hollywood and MTV as your sources.

People are forgetting that Robinson also overcame the fact he had a woman's name.

    Check out pg 3-

Not surprisingly, internet usage of Asian Americans trumps every other race.

Racism only happens when a white man damages or attempts to damage the right of a black individual.

This is defined in our culture dictionary, no lies. You can look it up and confirm yourself.

Watch 'Hoop Dreams'. Not only is it a great docu, but a very honest and all to common theme of trying to make it from a position of a have not minority.

Im also a lifetime subscriber of SLAM and BI which touch on many similar stories. you will be surprised how much they, and current nba players, have tobdeal with.

I still wish Lin the best in the CBL or wherever he goes next. I felt this thread was insulting to Jackie and African Americans so may have been a bit Ott in my responses. But do realize there are hard working guys with much more talent who overcome much, much more than a guy you relate to because he's the same race as you. That one time you cried in the 7th grade .. Sry, its not relevant. Perhaps its best to take a page out of Kobe Bryants book "I am not enraged with trayvon sentiment just because I'm African American".

I'm curious, when you see or read about another black player talk about his tragic childhood, do you shake your head and think "stop trying to garner my sympathy!!" or do you weep for his hard earned success and feel bad for the poor environment that "we" were not able to change for that young man?

    I'm guessing it's the latter.

You're clueless and quite honestly, I almost spat out a mouthful of oatmeal when you said you still subbed to SLAM.

Lin is not discriminated against because he's Asian and carries all the negative personal stereotypes of being Asian. We can go to the D&D for the rest of this"debate" if you'd like, or you can just read California AA thread, where people fight their hardest to try to give black students an advantage at the expense of everyone else without a moment of thinking it's problematic.

What is your point? You aren't emphatically stating anything to oppose my viewpoint. Excuses are like belly buttons, everyone has one.

The OP was pissed that some Lin fan dropped this stupid analogy in the game thread and wanted to bring it to light.
I only fault the OP for the poll. Don't worry, he'll get better at making them .

Lin did have a bad game offensively on national tv so coincidentally Lin fans drops this race card to thwart the real criticism of lins game.
