As a Latvian I have to add that at least the Lithuanian president (a she) Gribauskaite has some balls to call out Putin for his wrongdoings. Our jackass of a president sits there quietly just to not make Putin mad instead of taking a clear stance.
I still believe that NATO would intervene if an invasion would take place on the Baltic soil but this bravado from the russkies is worrying especially for the elderly who have witnessed the atrocities of war.
Hope D-Mo gets it together but frankly we have no idea what his thoughts are on the matter.

It's an interesting topic, OP, and I don't doubt for a second that he's been concerned for the safety of his country and his family, but this is probably a subject best moved to Hangout or that other forum down there, in my humble opinion.

Basso's thoughts here mirror my own. Nice post, Fishman. ;-)-

Doesn't really make sense because if it were true, he would be much more distracted by living in the country most notorious in the world for invading other countries.

How this thread has stayed out of the D&D so long after so many political comments is confusing.

Lithuania might have geographical proximity, but they're in a completely different geo-political situation. They are NATO members while Ukraine is not. They are 85% Lithuanian, while half of Ukraine is Russian. It's not that Lithuania has nothing to worry about, but they have a lot less to worry about so long as they are vigilant.

Does it affect D-Mo's play? Honestly, I doubt it.

Despite not really being a "Game-Action" topic, I think its very interesting.

Keep in mind that D-Mo, much like other Euro prospect athletes really have been traveling and living all over Europe and the world really since they were like 14 years old. That has to have an impact on who you are culturally, your beliefs based on your experience, and probably your outlook on life.

If there was one player on the Rockets I'd like to talk to off line about non-Rockets topics, its probably D-Mo. Since he's been removed from Lithuania much of the past 5 years or so other than a couple week long visits, I wouldn't expect him to be complete caught up to date on the Ukrainian/Russia other than what he hears on the news like all of us, but I bet you he's got a pretty unique world view, and has a ton of cultural wisdom to share even at his young age.

note Kalinigrad, former east prussia, a non-contiguous part of Russia. no doubt Putin would like to make it less non-contiguous.

True. This probably does belong in the Hangout in retrospect. My bad.

I don't do Twitter, but I know several posters do follow D-Mo on Twitter. He always seems to have interesting things to say, so I was curious if he had tweeted anything.

Did not know Lithuania was part of NATO, so I learned something new here.

Personally, I would just like to see D-Mo demolish Putin in a cage match. That would be a sight to see!!

Has anybody asked D-Mo his thoughts and feelings about his on-court crisis lately?

That's like saying 80% (I don't know the actual %) of people in Taiwan are actually Chinese. They would probably vote to be a part of China anyways...

    ^fyi, that'd never happen

Sabonis would have been an NBA player in his prime if not for the USSR.

Would have loved to see him up against the NBA physical play of the 80s. The guy is and was a specimen. A walking Kodiak bear that even Shaq stared in awe at.

This. Many citizens of Afghanistan sport mighty beards, so he's probably very concerned.

Please tell me you said "Ukraine" due to a random brainfreeze and don't actually believe that drivel.

The population of Crimea is 60% Russian, not Ukraine's. They're not the same thing.
