I think there is reason to be concerned. If the Rockets minus three starters and now Harden with hand issues continue to lose, they could sink in the standings. If we fall into sixth place, it is almost an automatic first round exit against the Clippers. Falling to fifth place I think would cause us to lose home court against Portland which we might could overcome. Things are getting dicey. It appears we are going to limp into the playoffs which is absolutely not what you want to do. S.A. has it right, you roll into the post season at the top of your game.

Well look on the bright side... at least we can get rid of McHale then.

Here is the latest batch of Magic Numbers after all games were played on 4/3.

Rockets lose back-to-back against eastern teams
Without three of their starters (unless you count the ten poor minutes by Jones yesterday), the Rockets were unable to get a win against the Nets or the Raptors. Asik dominated the boards, grabbing a career high 23 rebounds against the Nets, followed by 15 at Toronto. Harden scored 26 in both games, but the team's overall play just wasn't good enough, resulting in 96-105 and 103-107 losses.

Spurs roll over crippled Warriors
No Iguodala, no Bogut, no Lee on the second night of a back-to-back, after an overtime thriller against the Mavs that ended with a Curry buzzerbeater for the win. Easy one for the Spurs. Duncan dominated at the start with 12 points and 4 rebounds in the first nine minutes alone, helping the Spurs to a 31-18 first quarter lead. As usual, everyone on the San Antonio team contributed, all eleven players who stepped on the court scored. Curry had a poor shooting night, going 5 of 15 for 11 points and so the Spurs extend their winning streak to 19 with a 111-90 victory.

The race for the last playoff spots
With the loss to Golden State on Tuesday, Dallas fell to the ninth spot. But they climbed back up to the seventh seed without playing because both the Suns and the Grizzlies lost.
The Clippers came to Phoenix yesterday. After a balanced first half, the Suns overwhelmed their opponents with a 22-5 run in the third quarter. Unfortunately for them, they went cold while the Clippers got hot collectively in the fourth quarter. Trailing by two with 18 seconds remaining, the Suns went for the quick two, but Bledsoe got blocked on his drive, LA gained possession, Dudley made his free throws and the Suns lost 108-112.
The Grizzlies got off to a very slow start in Minnesota, hitting just one of their first eight shots. Still, the game was tied after the first quarter. In the second and third quarter, the Wolves were able to establish a comfortable lead and so the game ended 102-88. Kevin Love had a triple double with 24/16/10, Rubio shot the ball pretty well, he hit 5 of his 11 attempts for 14 points, he added 7 assists and 3 steals. Mike Conley really struggled, he went 3 of 15 from the field.

Thursday Games
Two very interesting Western Conference games coming up this evening on TNT. First, the clash of the two best teams so far this season: Spurs at Thunder. That game is followed by Mavericks at Clippers. With a loss, Dallas would drop to the 9th spot once again.

Rockets are still in line to finish #4. They probably need to win a tough game out of the last 8, but it's not like Portland will finish 6-0, so the Rockets should be fine.

They can definitely win all of them. All of those game at home but one and only the GS games is tough and Clippers the last one is a final game where Clippers probably going to rest their starters.

Houston in the other hand got GS and SA as the tough opponents, but they need to win the rest of the games to secure a 4th otherwise forget about moving to the second round of the playoffs.

They need DH ASAP.

Clinched the #9 seed

Here is the latest batch of Magic Numbers after all games were played on 4/3.

I apologize for my absence. I was on a monster writing streak on the book the past two nights. You gotta feed the muse when she calls.

But now back to the regularly scheduled program

Spurs streak snapped
The Spurs saw their 19 game winning streak halted as the Thieves swept the season series with a 106-94 win. Durant scored 28 and collected 7 rebounds, and Westbrick added 27 points and 6 assists. Patty Mills led the Spurs with 21 points, and Tim Duncan and Kawhi Leonard each added 17. The Spurs lose a Magic Number, but still have a two game lead on the Thieves for the #1 spot. I get the feeling that Popovich wanted the streak to end.

Mavs get a big win
Dallas needed a win to stay atop the mad scramble for the last two Playoff spots, and they picked up an impressive one by taking down the red hot Clippers 113-107. Dirk led the Mavs with 26 points and 11 rebounds, and Jose Calderon added 19. The Mavs stay at the #7 spot a half game up on the Suns and Grizz. Blake Griffin had a triple double of 25 points, 11 assists, and 10 boards, and DeAndre Jordan added 21 points and 15 rebounds. The Clippers lose a Magic Number but stay locked in comfortably at #3.

Slumping Rockets get a big test
The shorthanded Rockets are going to have their hands full trying to snap their three game losing streak when the Thieves come to town. We still have an effective three game lead in the loss column over the Blazers, so we’re not in dire straits if we do lose this game. The Blazers do host the Suns as well, and I’m hoping the Thieves might be tired on the second game of a back-to-back.

Friday Games
The big game of the night pits the slumping Suns who desperately need a win against a Blazers team that seems to have righted itself. Mavs, Grizz, and Warriors all have Probables lined up.

Suns at Blazers, Kings at Warriors, Nuggets at Grizz, Mavs at Lakers, Wolves at Heat

Would you like to wager on that? $20 tip jar bet that Rockets will stay at 4? I'm very confident.
Just relax. Rockets will have hca.

The rockets should clinch a playoff berth by winning tonight or by both Memphis and Phoenix losing.

It would rather Phoenix beat the Blazers just to get some breathing room with the 4th seed.

Great day for the Rockets. We beat the Thieves, and the Trail Blazers lost to the Suns. The Rockets now have a 3 game lead over the Trail Blazers for the 4 seed.

Clinched the #8 seed

Here is the latest batch of Magic Numbers after all games were played on 4/4.

How sweet it is!
The Rockets clinched a Playoff spot with a 111-107 win over the Thieves. I wasn’t expecting them to win this game without Beverly and Howard, but that was a most impressive effort even if the Thieves were missing Westbrick. All Magic Numbers drop one. We technically haven’t closed out the Suns or Grizz, yet, but those two teams face off a final time and that guarantees one of those Magic Numbers will drop to zero. Durant kept his 25 point scoring streak alive, and the Thieves chill at #2 and wait to see who they’ll face in the first round.

Suns take down Blazers
The Suns were on a losing streak and the Blazers on a winning streak, but that all came to a halt after the Suns put a beatdown on Portland over the last quarter and a half for a 109-93 victory. Gerald Green led the Suns with 32 points, and Eric Bledsoe added 30. The Suns stay even with the Mavs and Grizz, but lose the head to head tie break with Memphis and stay at #9. LaMarcus Aldridge and Robin Lopez led the Blazers with 18 points, and Damian Lillard added 15 points on 5-13 shooting and 7 assists. The Blazers lose an additional Magic Number with the loss, and the Rockets are in excellent shape to close them out. They stay just one game ahead of Golden State with a game for the tie break coming up.

6-8 take care of business
There was not much drama and no change in the standings as the other three playoff contenders won games they were supposed to.

The Warriors pwned the Kings 102-69 behind a balanced scoring attack that saw 7 Warriors in double figure scoring. Golden State is now just one game back of the Blazers and control their own destiny for the #5 seed. A game in Portland on April 13 decides the tie break.

The Mavs took over in the second half for a comfortable 107-95 win over the injury-ravaged Lakers. Dirk scored 27 on 11-14 shooting and moved up to #11 past Dominique on the all time scoring list and only 32 behind Oscar Robertson for #10. The victory keeps Dallas at #7 for the night.

The Grizz came out flat, but finally decided to play in the second half and picked up a much needed 100-92 victory over the Nuggets. ZBo led the team with 20 points and 15 boards. The Grizz keep pace with the 7-9 pack and win the 2 team tie break over Phoenix (3-0 head to head) to claim the #8 spot.

Goodbye Cellar Dwellers
The Wolves were eliminated from the Playoffs despite a hard fought 122-121 double overtime win over the Heat. Free Kevin Love! led the Wovles with 28 points and 11 rebounds, and Chase Budinger added 24 points on 7-9 shooting and 5-7 from downtown. The best they could hope for is a three way tie for #8 with Memphis and Phoenix, but Memphis would win that tie break.

Move along, these are not the games you’re looking for
All of the top 9 west teams take a breather before they all play on Sunday.

On Sunday, the Rockets get a juicy Probable when the woeful Nuggets come to town. The Rockets need to capitalize and make sure they get home court.

Grizz at Spurs, Suns at Thieves, Lakers at Clippers, Pelicans at Blazers, Jazz at Warriors, Mavs at Kings

Ackerman mentioned that Lawson twisted his ankle tonight and would be questionable vs. Houston...anyone else heard anything? We need that Denver game.

Pretty likely that Lawson is out. Dude was in a walking boot and said the sprain was the worst he's ever had. No reason to risk further injury now.

AB will get the start and drop 40 on us lol

Scribo, GSW has the tiebreak over Portland, I think. The April 13 game is not decisive for the tiebreak, but needless to say is still a must win for GSW if they want us and not the Clips...

That game is decisive.

If the Warriors win, they take the head to head 3-1.

If the Blazers win, they tie 2-2 for head to head. If the Warriors and Blazers then wound up with the same record, the Blazers would have a 1 game edge in conference record and would win the tie break.
