Yes, the numbers are worse in the NBA than in the D league. It is about what to expect those numbers to be. His 3 point percentage should be about 33% this year in the NBA based on what he did in the D League and probably about 36% next year. His FT% should be the same in the NBA and D League. His free throw rate should drop a little as well, but still very high. Mid range shooting percentage tends to nose dive in efficiency from the D league to the NBA, but Canaan doesn't shoot many to worry about it.

At 36% 3 point shooting next year and a lot of free throws with very few mid range shots, he would most likely have a TS% above 60% with the usage rate of a backup. I expect he will be a highly efficient, but only moderate usage rate offensive player in the NBA.

As I said, high ceiling, low floor. He could completely have a hard time adjusting to the NBA and have his 3 point percentage remain around 30%. He could also adjust to the speed of the NBA and shoot 40% from behind the arc.

Its not that Canaan is ready.... Its not that he is even good... Its that anybody starting over Lin is better for The Rockets right now. Lin is just flat out hurting the team so we might as well give Canaan some time and see if he is of any worth. I wish Lin was doing well..... I honestly do... I wish he was half the player Linsanity was.... He is not....

Time for Canaan and Daniels to split the duties

And you really think Canaan will do a better job? Canaan may be an excellent shooter, but he's very short. He doesn't have the explosiveness of Nate Robinson or the quickness of Aaron Brooks to make up for his height. He's built like a rock, but unfortunately most pgs don't post up.

Both Lin and Canaan aren't shooting well, but then again offense isn't the biggest issue the Rockets are facing. It's defense and Lin is a far better defender then Canaan has shown to be.

Anyone who believes Canaan can do a better job than Lin, as a backup or as a starter, is just ludicrous. As bad as Lin is playing, Canaan is WORSE. How can anyone not see it?

I agree, Lin's confidence is the factor in his poor play, not his ability.

Canaan has barely played. We don't know what he can do

All we know for certain is that Lin is having HUGE problems right now and the Rockets have to find an answer somewhere else

Exactly. How can you say it's time for him to do anything when you don't even know what he can do?

All we have seen so far is that he can't do much as an NBA PG other than hitting a few shots. Not saying that he won't improve. But to say that it's time for him when he has shown nothing at this time is just baffling.

Yes I really think Canaan will do a better job. He is at a different stage in his NBA career than Lin.... Canaan is gifted offensively and is trying to prove his worth in big league while Lin is trying to live up to Linsanity and has more pressure than anyone on the court. The pressure of every missed shot and or t/o is suffocating Lin while Canaan learns from every shot miss or make and gets more comfortable.

Many love to justify Lin's poor play by bringing up numbers and comparison with other players in specific aspects of the game. Stats are a clear representation of what happened not how it happened. Stats clearly tell the story of what could and is likely to happen but not how it actually will happen. This leaves open a big window of opportunity for several things to come in and disrupt the stats/numbers expected because we don't have a clear representation of how they happened so will the opportunity arise of it happening again. With that said, Lin on paper will not be a clear representation of Lin's impact on the floor. Lin probably looks better on defense than Canaan because his man missed some shots. But were the misses because of Lin? Stats says yes reality may be no.... I feel like Canaan iis more aggressive.. The stats prob don't show Beverly as an elite defender but we see the truth on the floor not on the numbers..

We SEE the truth on the floor... We see Lin getting worst and worst. This is not Rocket science. Its basketball.

Because of what the alternative is. You know what Lin is and you are losing with him. Why would you not try something different when something clearly isn't working? Pretty simple concept.

Is he is playing worst now then the stretch where he averaged single digit points and 3/4 turnovers a game last month?

Short, slow and cannot finish around the rim? No NBA scouting book on him, and when teams write one the defense will shut down what little he brings to the table? Does not have great handles for a point guard, and gets his pocket picked by NBA point guards? Already close to a finished product after 4 years in college?

It's not a simple concept at all.

We are not losing Lin for at least another year. Won't be able to trade him after this season. It's too late in the season to start experimenting with a rookie like Canaan especially when we are in danger of losing the number 4 seed. Sorry but a rookie with so little pro time is not a better alternative than Lin.

Its not about points... Lin can score 4 points a game but if he is playing hard, defending aggressively, making it easy for others to score, keeping the ball secure and leading the team The Rockets would be a very scary team to face... Lin can score a lot of points and still hurt the team...

    Facts:

    1. Lin is hurt.

    2. Canaan is the superior shooter even when Lin is healthy.

    3. Our starting PG playing alongside Harden doesn't need to create. He needs to catch-and-shoot.

    4. Lin is a poor PG defender when healthy. Canaan can't possibly be worse defensively than Lin.

    Conclusion:
As long as Bev is out and we are riding out this storm, Canaan should start. As long as Lin is dinged, his minutes should be limited. We need to let Canaan go out there and spot-up alongside the starters and then hand him the basketball for small stretches of the game when the bench is in and let him create. We seen him create in RGV. He has that ability. He needs some NBA experience doing it...but not when Harden is in there and not when the game is hanging in the balance unless Lin is just so hurt that he is taking away from the team. And I suspect right now Lin is that dinged. You can see it when he runs. Dude is stiff.

I actually think this is a better argument for Canaan to start because with the starters, his weaknesses will be easier to hide and Lin will be back in the role in which he performs best. In short other players on the team can go back to their natural roles. Also this will help with Canaans confidence as a scorer and hopefully a playmaker if we are going to give a way games like we have the last 2 lets develop some players in the process.

Who are you talking about? Short sounds like Canaan, but Canaan is pretty quick. It is tough to defend quick and the three point shot. He does struggle at finishing at the rim right now, but he draws a lot of contact at the rim as well. More than likely he improves more than the NBA adjusts to him. Does not have great handles could be Lin, Beverley. or Canaan. All three have adequate handles.

Right now, the main thing holding him back offensively is adjusting to the faster closeouts in the NBA...granted this is huge as he probably isn't good enough if he can't get his three point shot off.
