The only question is if the Texans think there's more value in trading down (which gets my vote) or if there's a QB that's worth the first pick, which there doesn't seem to be. Clowney has to be the pick if they stay at 1-1. There's a chance he may not be the best player, but he's got the lowest floor and highest ceiling.

When they still had Cushing, they had a pretty good blitz, but when you send extra guys, it leaves receivers open. I can't blame Wade Phillips, he had very little to work with last season.
Wade had plenty to work with. He just didn't mix up his defense well and put a bad secondary on an island every play.

Really? He had a front 4 that was essentially JJ Watt and 3 traffic cones and he didn't have Cushing. Also, it wasn't actually a bad secondary, any secondary looks bad when the D line isn't doing their job.

The people who want Teddy or Johnny don't even have to do that...They can just point to facts and throw the tape in your face. You have to do guess work with Clowney and make excuses for him. Blake, Robinson, and Watkins. They got tape to back them up as well. But F the tape... Clowney is amazing at picking up tennis balls and jumping over bags... SOLD...!!!!
I didn't want to say anything because I don't have time to go back and watch all the games I've watched again to detail proof, but I've now watched SC vs. Tennessee, Wisconsin, Clemson and UNC. Teams chip block him more often than not with a single TE or RB when they run right at him. He's good at run defense coming around the end and tracking down from behind when you run off center or to the other side's guard but when teams ran outside or off tackle on his side he was neutralized easily and gashed for some big runs. If you run directly at him, he doesn't hold the point of attack (not surprising since he's 265 lbs, but still, if he was actually the superman he's been made out to be, he would be stout at the point of attack like a 300 lb guy). And he gets double teamed, depending on the opponent, anywhere from 5-15 plays a game, not every down. Most of the time on passing downs, the "double team" is a chip block from a running back followed by regular pass protection from a tackle. Even with only 3 sacks, he commanded many fewer double teams than JJ Watt. He actually has two very nice pash rush moves, one is a rip to the inside, and the other is a straight bull rush where he knocks the tackle back on his heels with his explosiveness and drives him back like a rag doll. Both are great moves, but neither is particularly suited to playing wide 9, or from a 2 point stance, or anything outside of straight up, hand in the dirt, right on top the tackle. And he seems to get tired easily and after the first quarter, his use of said moves decreases exponentially with each quarter that passes. If he only played first quarters, he might be closer to the guy everybody is talking about. If you actually watch the games, the myth has become much bigger than the man. If they do draft him, he is going to require some major work to be more than just an athlete. The problem is, people who will remain unnamed have said that Clowney will require a double team on every play, together with JJ Watt will create the greatest pass rush evah, and Tom Brady will never ever have time to throw when he plays the Texans in the future. Even if we cloned JJ Watt and placed a second one on the field, no single individual player will have that impact. And Jadeveon Clowney is no JJ Watt.

Every secondary is awful if opposing QB's have all day to sit in the pocket, you can absolutely put that on the D line.
