I think people are sleeping on him because he's not 6'4" and long, like the Johnson and Moss. The height/weight don't pop off the status sheet. The player comparison I see is Tim Brown, in terms of the way he explodes off the line. Brown was smaller than Watkins, and was a 9x pro bowler. Watkins' acceleration and burst is special.
I'll stick around no matter who they draft, but I'll pay a lot less attention if they draft a QB with the first pick because there won't be much to watch this year.
Calvin Johnson and Randy Moss...Lol.. Well Clowney isn't LT, Bruce, or Peppers. He may not even be a better prospect than what Mario was when he came out. Yes the WR class is deep but Sammy is head and shoulders better than them all. He's in a class of his own and everyone else is a distant 2nd and a bunch of those guys are dice rolls (more so than some other positions in the draft). There is no question Sammy is the best WR. Not the same with Clowney. No doubt he's the best physical specimen but as far as being the best player at his position and or best OLB _ that's up for debate. Between Clowney, Mack, Ford, Crichton, Murphy, Barr, Smith, and others... This draft is full of pass rushers. That's the deepest position of players with talent that can be impact players in this draft. More so than at the WR position or any other. Sammy is a bigger, stronger, HEALTHIER, and just as fast version of Percy Harvin. He's elite on the outside and in the slot, and on special teams, and he can even run the ball out of the backfield... The kid is a beast. Adding Sammy to what the Texans already have (and there is such a thing as 3 wide receiver sets) can turn this offense into elite over night... Even with Fitzpatrick at QB. Andrew Luck nor any other team in this division have a great defense. And there's not many great defenses in the AFC anyway so why not try to out score teams....??? It will take years trying to build a defense to shut down Andrew Luck... Seattle and San Francisco both tried and failed (and the Texans are years away from being like them defensively even if they draft Clowney). But the Texans are in position to build an offense that can out score him right now and every other team in the AFC.
exactly. im leaning towards johnny football but will still support whoever we draft. kind of silly to quit on the team because they don't take "your guy".
Over Clowney though??? Especially at the #1 pick when there are other wrs with "special" potential that can be had later?
I see what you are saying, but I can't say he is head and shoulders above everyone else. There is A LOT of wr talent this year, talent that can be potential just as good that can be had in later rounds Personally I feel that if BOB doesn't love any of these qbs, we should trade back
I'm still concerned about Clowney ' s makeup and consistency, which isn't a concern with Watkins. I would put him just below Clowney ' s ceiling, with less chance of bust. By "bust", on the basis of the film I'm thinking Clowney could be a lot like Mario Williams, where the highlight reel will be absolutely amazing, but where it will be hit or miss as to whether he brings it every game. When the game is on the line, and everybody is sacking wind, I don't see Clowney as the guy who's going to dig a little deeper and bring the big play at the big moment. I think if the Texans roster had no players, I would be pushing for Watkins. My guess is that in 10 years, he will be the biggest name that comes out of the draft.
Watkins might be the surest pick in the draft. Can't go wrong picking in the top 5. Robinson, Matthews, Watkins, Clowney, Mack ...will all be studs. Plus Johnny football is a can't pass on prospect.
If you mean he is a can't pass on prospect in the second round or later, I agree with you Its really getting tiresome hearing the same trumped up Johnny nonsense
If the Texans thought so, they would have allocated money for him, instead of Foster, Schaub, JJoseph, etc.
How is that relevant to Clowney? 1. Clowney is a better prospect than Mario was and has a higher ceiling. 2. Saying a team won't give a player the biggest contract for a defensive player in league history when they are up against the cap has nothing to do with drafting a player with a higher ceiling who would be on a rookie deal for 5 years.
Maybe you should go back and read the discussion for some context. When you hop into the middle of a conversation things might not make sense.
So we get Mario in his rookie contract. I think Clowney could end up being better than Mario Remember Mario was 2 time all pro too
I like Watkins a lot If 1. We didn't have Dre 1 and Dre 2 2. And holes on our D-line I would be interested in trading back to 3 with the Jags and get Watkins 3rd
It's not really that far into the conversation, EOTW said Then you responded by saying Which didn't really make sense so I sought clarification and you then stated that you were talking about allocating money for Mario which was you trying to link drafting Clowney to the Texans not wanting to gut their team to pay Mario. It just doesn't follow.
