I know this was meant as a joke but I think Lin should've been the starter on day 1. The team was very successful and exceeded expectations last year with him at the point. I think if he had played 70 games as the established, unquestioned #1 starter alongside Howard and Harden with Beverley providing the energy off the bench the team would be better positioned to get to the WCF or NBA finals. He has demonstrated elite level talent and all he needs is experience, refinement and clear direction from the coaching staff. Even Beverley fans might agree that Beverley would probably be better able to handle the physical toll of the NBA with his aggressive style of play as a guy coming off the bench than as a starter. This latest injury is about the 4th one he has had this year where he has had to sit out games.

    Meh....

Patrick Beverley tweeted that it was ARPIL FOOLS!

He won't be back in 10 days... he really shredded his meniscus, out for 6 months... right now he is smoking cigars with Derrick Rose and laughing at all the working stiffs.

How long are we going to hear the refrain that he needs experience, that he is still learning, that he will suddenly get better. He is nearly 26 years old, has played 6000 minutes and over 200 games. Can he improve greatly? It is possible, but based on history it isn't likely he takes a quantum leap forward.
Using the same logic, Beverley has only played 2000 minutes, so he could improve every bit as much or moreso.

The notion that the Rockets would have been better with Beverley on the bench with Lin starting is dubious. Beverley defends better, protects the ball better and shoots the three ball better.... traits the Rockets need in a starting point guard.

Lin isn't a bad player. He is a good rotation player on a playoff team. He can start in a pinch and at times carry an offense. However he is too wildly inconsistent to be a starter on a good team.
