wow, somebody is willing to call James Harden our worst defensive player, hope you would be consistent on that..... some people really is going out of his way to hate....
Barring any trades, Lin is the difference between winning a championship and getting mauled by the Heat/Thunder/Pacers/Clips in the playoffs. Without him, we'll bounce a few weak squads and then get beat in 5 or 6 by the big boys. It is not reassuring given Lin's current track record against these elite, athletic squads, but Lin's upside is and has always been the extra "oomph" to push us over the top.
If you look at Lin over the last 2 years, he has had strong performances against all of the top teams and top guards save the Miami Heat. Rockets can get to the WCF and NBA finals with Lin. In fact, I think they're better suited to do that with Lin and Harden playing together assuming Lin has enough games under his belt with Harden prior to the playoffs to work out the kinks. I think the coaching staff could go a long way to optimizing the effectiveness of the backcourt by doing things in the playbook to get each player into rhythm early in the game and being clear about Lin's role on both sides of the ball. Sometimes when injuries hit, the coaching staff needs to adjust to the players they have. Getting the most out of Lin involves making some concessions to the sets that he he excels in rather than a rigid commitment to the system.
Agreed. Getting 8 points off of free throws is a sign of aggressiveness and effectiveness. Anyone check out Rubio's bad stat line against the Clips last night? If the coaching staff encourages Lin to keep playing that style of play, the ball will start going in the basket. With a couple of made shots, he could've easily had a 16 point game and made it a 1-2 possession game with 2 minutes left.
I think it has more to do with the fact that Rubio doesn't have a thousand incredibly annoying fans making countless of threads about him, accusing the FO, coach, assistant coach, and teammates for being racist, blaming teammates for hating him and holding him back, digging up or looking to manipulate statistics to make him look good, or just making up every possible excuse when he has a bad game.
And his contract ... which I don't think is egregiously bad does look bad when compared to guys like Darren Collison, Jordan Farmar

Because Rubio does a lot more on the court. He provides a lot of value with his passing, defense, and rebounding.
