Projected to go in mid first round, but has potential to be a star level player.

His age and phisical/athletic ability is similar to serge Ibaka predraft, and he ranked near top in Eurocup and French league in rebound/block/finishing.

With Asik likely gone in one year or two, and DWH declining from his prime in next few years, Clint Capela has potential to be our future in the front court.

He's also an option for Euro stash. We may have to make some trades to pick him, but it's not as difficult as getting a lottery pick.

We should trade one of our many Euro-stashes, 2nd round picks, and our own first round pick this year and move up. He's #15 on draftexpress right now, so we won't be able to get him unless we trade up. Like OP said, this guy has Ibaka-like potential on defense. Not only this, he has good handles for a PF/C as well.

Younger, longer Manimal with more upside.

From the videos that I saw, I didn't see Manimal-like rebounding/tenacity. I just saw a worse-shot blocking Ibaka, but with better handles. That's still great in my opinion.

His rebounding rate is very good in Europe. Hollinger used to add 20% for euroleague -> NBA translation of reb rate. In limited time last Euroleague season, his pace adjusted reb rate(with 20% upward adjustment) will make him one of the top rebounders in NBA.

Of course, this season he played in Eurocup instead of Euroleague, and his per minute number is down a little bit, but it's still amazing for such a young kid.

Players like him is the reason 2014 first round picks are so valuable around the league.

We need to do whatever we can to get this guy. We have too many Euro stashes and 2nd round picks.

I see a skinny guy that will have a tough time playing in the NBA until he bulks up. I don't think the Rockets want to wait more than a year on a guy right now. On the flip side, they may want a Eurostash if he drops to their pick.

That's not how Morey thinks. Just because we have a championship contending team doesn't mean that we have to move all-in for every player or get players that can contribute right now. If we draft him and he shows serious potential like Greek Freak, he can be a wonderful trade chip. You think Minny wouldn't trade Love for a starting package centered around the Greek Freak if Love demands out?

Morey said something to the effect this year that he is trying to maximize the Rockets chances of winning the NBA Championship in the next three years. Morey will not draft a guy to trade him at this moment. Once a pick is used to draft a player, the player has less value than the draft pick much like the value of a new car drops dramatically after leaving the parking lot. Morey would just trade pick before selection if he doesn't like anyone for the Rockets. If there isn't anyone that could help Rockets next year, I could see Morey doing a draft and stash.

Morey, like Presti and unlike many other GM's, is keeping all his first round picks even though we are trying to contend.

Kobe was frustrated when Lakers drafted Bynum and kept him in his first few years(Bynum struggled and didn't contribute much in early stage of his career), at a time Kobe wanted instant support.

Spurs traded out George Hill(proven good player) for a 14th pick on a rather raw(at that time) 19 year old Kawhi.

Smart GM's identify/evaluate talent, and think ahead of the curve.

Morey traded a draft pick for Battier. Morey has traded a ton of players for draft picks. The only thing about Morey that is predictable is that he's going to make a trade for value. Rockets are currently placing a premium on value in the next three years.

Dwight will probably not have as long a career as Kobe. On the Spurs, if the Rockets see a guy that can help short term in draft, they will do the same thing. Kawhi had an NBA body, already.

You have 1/2 correct. What people always forget was the fact that we traded STROMILE SWIFT'S CONTRACT along with Battier for the 8th pick at the time. We didn't even want Rudy Gay, we were going to pick Thabo. We also weren't just going for proven help. We got that plus got rid of a ridiculous contract, so it was a no brainer.

There is premium value on the next 3 years, no doubt. However, you aren't going to get elite help for $1.5 million or whatever. You'll get fringe NBA guys like Garcia and Hamilton. Capela can have more of an impact next year. If not, like you said, we can always stash him in Europe. This is why we need to draft his guy.

Lastly, why are you comparing Dwight to Kobe? That's just apples to oranges. If anything, Harden has more years than Kobe left at the time.

Once Asik leaves Howard's back up is obviously D-Mo. The Rockets have a three year window of opportunity after this season. After that Howard will be going off contract and will probably not be as effective. The chance of drafting anyone who can help in that window is minimal. The draft is no longer important, except as trade chips. I would be very surprised if the Rockets first round picks for the next couple of drafts are not traded for veterans.

The Rockets were more interested in Battier than getting rid of Swift's contract. Getting rid of Swift was more a plus. Whether Rockets wanted Gay or not doesn't matter. Rockets wanted a veteran that could help right away versus keeping a draft pick.

I am comparing Dwight to Kobe as the Lakers saw there window as Kobe. The Rockets chances to win a championship are dependent on both Harden and Howard. As such, either Howard or Harden aging affects the Rockets window.

That's true that the Rockets were interested in Battier, but you don't know if they would have pulled the trigger without getting rid of Stromile. He still had 4 years and $24 million left on that contract, which is not a small number. Getting rid of that would require at least 1 or maybe even 2 first round picks. The Rockets did want a vet and they could have gone after other FAs or other trades.

Bottom line, you can't just act like getting rid of Stromile's contract was a small part of that trade. Morey is, and has always been very keen on flexible salary cap control. This is the reason why Morey's asking price for Asik was 2 First Round picks instead of players.

It's unlikely we draft him without a trade. If he falls into 20s, Thunder would take him with the dallas pick. He's the prototype prospect Presti would pick IMO.

I would be happy with Capela or McDaniels.
