Trying to figure out best/cheapest way to get a 46in tv installed on top of fireplace....not sure if a sound system is possible with it.

anyone used circuit city or best buy to install stuff? its for my parents, had a consultant come out but of course sent a ridiculous overpriced proposal...

    any suggestions would be great.

most likely getting the samsung 4669 or 4671 series tv.
the sony xbr4 is too wide at 46in and dont want to downgrade to 40in..

    thanks for the help

    do you live in houston?

if you go buy some audio or video equipment from home theater store, they can give you an evaluation for free.

are you sure you want it over the fireplace? have you considered one the entertainment centers with a built in mount?

i live in houston, but its for my parents place in california...i agree over the fireplace makes it higher/more expensive to mount, but unfortunately its the only place to put it in the room/house...

those set ups did look sweet.

In all honesty there are probably quite a few on this board who are broke and could set up your system for a reasonable fee.

    :D

The layout in my room sucks. The best place for a tv is where the fireplace is. We never ever use the fireplace. Instead I put our 42" hdtv on a stand in front of the fireplace.

Go to monoprice.com. Spend $35 on a mount. Take 30 minutes out of your day to install it.

I am not a handy man AT ALL and I found it incredibly easy to mount my 46inch LCD. As long as you have 2 people it's a breeze.

    bump....

Anyone know of someone reliable who could wall mount a 55 inch LED for a reasonable price? Moving into a new place next week and want to put it on a swivel bracket.

Do it yourself. It is 4 bolts and not much else. All you have to do is make sure it is level. It is really simple. I think you will be hard pressed to have it done for less than $150 including a mount if you go to an outside source. The monoprice mounts work fine.

Why would you hire a "home theater installation company" to do this for a mere 46" TV?!?!?

How <s>lazy could you be</s> difficult did you think this could be to not save you hundreds of bucks?!?! :(

I could see about doing this with a large theater room or a large set up of speakers, seats, etc., but... for that small a TV? It's easy, man, all you have to do is buy a stud-finder and have the right anchors with your screws for the wall mount, and a nice cable-hider. *Shoot, I'd do it for you if I had time, it's so much fun, man. Honest word here.

NECRO BUMP is NECRO... my answer goes to both OP and KO40A.

I knew it wouldn't be long before TroLy-D chimed in. Not saying it's difficult or I'm too lazy to do it, just seeing if there were any cheap options out there or anyone on here that did this kind of work. I'll give you a burrito and a case of Bud Light if you come do it for me TroLy.

The OP was asking for his parents - who one assumes would be older.

is reading comprehension not your strong suit?

Oh, btw, I can do 75% of the things in this world that I normally need done. Healtchare makes up most of the 25% that I can't do. Guess what! I still hire people to do a lot of those things.

HE can still do it for them, unless he's disabled or handicapped or whatever the term is... or he lives in a different country or town.
Wait, you have a license or certification to do those "healthcare" things? :p

    Two things:

    1. This thread is from 2008 so your criticism is quite pointless.
    2. He had already stated that (6 years ago) he lived in Houston and they in California.

    Therefore...
