Far from the worst coach in the NBA. Parsons is an integral part of this team so he gets the minutes to play out of a slump. Simple as that.
I didn't hate the call for the first 2 attempts. He just needs to know when to abandon ship a little sooner.
McFail was completely outclassed by Doc Rivers tonight. If people are unable to see that then they're either blind homers or just uninformed. A good coach can help his team win a game like this without his star and another rotation player. He even confronted Big Baby and held him accountable for his childish behavior by sending him back to the locker room. The Rockets needs a lot of changes before they seriously start talking about contending for a championship and upgrading the coach is one of the biggest ones.
Ok Jordan is an 45.1% free throw shooter for the season. Do you understand the math behind this risk/reward equation? Evidently not. Let us just say that Jordan from the free throw line scores at a -0.17 clip than the Rockets team averages in the open floor. If Jordan is in a bad streak then much worse. The math is pretty simple.
Yeah, if not for that, I'm sure the Rockets would have won. Even with their non-existent 4-spot being a no-show while Griffin didn't play. Or Lin's no-show. No, it all comes down to hacking Jordan.
First mistake. The rockets didn't just foul him because he is a 45% shooter. They fouled him because he was 1-5 at the time. Is he going to be shooting that bad the rest of the way? Of course not, on the contrary, after being able to focus and concentrate on preparing to shoot FTs he will shoot them better and proceed towards the law of averages. The hack a [x] never works. From a deficit, the rockets would have to go bombs away from 3 even if Jordan got 1 point per possession. Have you seen it work against Dwight...who is a slightly better FT shooter? Look at the flow of the game and how it actually ends up hurting the opposing team when they pull a hack-a-dwight. It has been beaten to death this season and you of all people should know it doesn't work. Its also not something you can completely quantify statistically. The player has more tie to focus and expects to be shooting. It almost turns into a "practice your FTs" as [x] player knows he will be getting to shoot a couple of FTs in the upcoming possessions. It doesn't work against us. (Only worked once when LAL hit a 3 to win) I said it wouldn't work before we started it. It didn't work, actually put us in a bigger hole. Don't make the mistake of trying to come to a conclusion when you can't quantify all the variables..such as the flow of the game..focus of the player in this particular situation. Its not a mistake to try to quantify something, but you are ignoring multiple variables because they are too difficult to quantify.
Freak, I am on your side, It doesn't and I never said that. Dmo played like trash and Lin doesn't belong in the NBA imo. The backlash I am getting is because it is in a "Fire Mchale" thread, which I absolutely don't support. I was posting a critique which I feel is warranted. From a coaching point, regardless of the hole you are in, you should make the right call to help your team pull out. In this case, the Hack-a-Jordan didn't. It didn't help Pop when he used it against us and it didn't help us against the clippers.
Before my intentions are misinterpreted , I'll end on these points -McHale is a good coach for the team as he has been all year, the loss clearly wasn't on him. -Just had a criticism about the hack-a-jordan's strategy that I felt was necessary to bring up.
How did I backpedal? I have posted in this thread over 20+ times and they echo the same statement. That the people who think McHale should be fired or blame Lin for his woes are idiots I started off with, "I can't believe I am posting in this thread" but I needed a place to put a criticism. I feel that I have been pretty transparent about my views, which I still hold and will hold regardless of what other people say. Mchale is a good coach. The Hack-a-crap is silly. It was tonight and it was when the best coach in the NBA, Pop, did it to us.
I think McHale is a brilliant consultant and he'll tell you what went wrong. The challenge is to develop projects into nba players and Kevin Mchale has had some success with Chandler Parsons and Patrick Beverley. When the rockets will be over the cap with four players it's tough on the coach who has two-thirds of his team are projects.
The most interesting thing McHale said was they don't have the players to play one-on-one in the nba. To me it's a conceit that contention is not realistic and the team has a lot of work to do.
Complain about what youu like, but McHale does have the team 1) steadyily improving 2) passing the ball 3) playing team defense 4) players have stopped asking to be traded (publically if nothing else) 5) finding enough balls for the superstars/people who need the ball in their hands
I think I found him <iframe src="http://gfycat.com/iframe/AchingSecondImago" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" width="802" height="450" ></iframe>
Maybe I am missing some sarcasm here? No the defense does not suck. Suck implies worse than average. The Rockets are in the top 33% in defense this season. No Harden has not regressed. He is a much better player than last season. All of his numbers are up and iso pounding the rock is seldom evident. No Parsons has not regressed. He is a much better player than last season. All of his numbers are up. He is just currently in a slump.
