You treat the Rockets like they are a finished product, instead of a team that has made wholesale changes over the last 2 years.

Your theory would make more sense if we were someone like Memphis, who has mostly been together for a while, and clearly has no hope of contention.

Measuring isn't just about knowing what you currently have, but anticipating what you may have in the future. And change is a slow and steady process. Just like you don't add 20 pounds of muscle overnight, you don't add a 3 pointer, or improve your defense overnight.

I *assume* this team will continue to grow because history shows us over and over through measurement that players continue to improve into their late 20's, and for some positions like Center into their early 30's.

That said, I don't *assume* that the team we're seeing right now is going to be drastically different than the team playing in 3 weeks. No, we're not a finished product in the LONG run. However, in the Short run, we are all "finished products" for the moment the VAST majority of the time.

How many people have you seen that change overnight? Now compare that to the number of people you actually know? THAT's how unlikely short term change is... and when it comes to acquiring skills, there are NO shortcuts.

That's why coaches make you shoot in the gym and run you through practices over, and over, and over.

Will we match up better against OKC or the Clippers next year? Probably.

However, as of TODAY and the next few weeks, I don't expect any big leaps over what they've shown us DURING the season. Would I love to be wrong? Sure. I'm still not going to bet the house on it, and I'm sure NOT going to be willing to wager our shot at a championship on it.

I have been confident that we can win the three home games left against LAC, OKC and SAS.

Until I learned that we could have both Beverley and Howard out this morning.
