Infamous is out tonight at midnight (or...you could have already beaten it if you're one of the people who bought off ebay haha). Anyway I'm very excited to finally play it, I haven't played any of the Infamous series. I'm a sucker for most thing superhero and this game was one of the big reasons I got my PS4. It's holding up solidly on metacritic, and I think at this point it's safe to say it's the first great first party game for the PS4. [side note: I was surprised it got an 8 from gamespot after stick of truth got a 7. also the only sub 8 review from what I consider a reputable site is eurogamer -- they gave it a 7. the other sites giving it a 7 I haven't heard of.] Most importantly I'm very excited/surprised about the day 1 patch that adds up to about 6 hours of gameplay (their estimate not mine). 1 hour will be the cole's legacy dlc for those that pre-ordered (or managed to snag a limited edition before it goes out of stock), and allegedly won't be available for purchase later. An extra 5 hours of side missions were added, and they stated they would add more in the future. Considering I was paying for it already, this makes me feel even better about it. www.metacritic.com http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/03...s-of-gameplay?abthid=532b09a94a0e93cb7b000013
I forgot it was tomorrow. I preordered it through PSN the other day, but I keep forgetting it is a Friday release. I just got Ground Zeroes too. Guess I can finish that first...shouldn't take long. Sessler gave it a 3/5, which scales to a 6/10. It seems to be victim of the "next-gen visuals, last-gen gameplay" complaint. Which is fine. I actually don't know/care if it is the first "great PS4 exclusive" or whatever. If it plays like previous inFamous games but with more polish (and better visuals), I'll be happy with it. MLB The Show will probably be the one that gets high 80s low 90s I think, unless something goes horribly wrong with the PS4 version (which shouldn't happen since they delayed it for polish).
I didn't want to use the word great, but there are a lot of people who consider killzone or knack to be "good" so wouldn't that make this game "great" if it has decent gameplay? I'll take everyone else's opinion over just Adam Sessler. He isn't the end all be all of game reviews.
They come and go (quickly) on Amazon for $296.99 (Used-Like New) about twice per day. I happened to stumble upon one on Saturday around 6:30 in the evening, then I bought a like new 2k14 and an extra controller on ebay all for less than a new PS4 by itself. It happened again this morning around 5:30 or 6, you can set a price alert for it.
I'm glad PS owners have something thing else to play instead of worrying about what is wrong with the XB1.
Not a complete analysis, but DF has some details on Infamous: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-infamous-second-son-performance-analysis Mostly about performance. Basically stays at or above 30 FPS nearly all the time, though they comment that it probably should be locked at 30 FPS (since it doesn't get high above 30 FPS enough to justify keeping it unlocked). It isn't a big deal, but since KZ put it in, they're thinking it would be a nice (and easy) addition to the game. Along with that, the game looks great of course (great IQ). I've played it a bit yesterday, and I have to agree. The gameplay wasn't quite as solid IMO (though I just got to the point of it opening up, and now it feels like previous Infamous games).
Played a bit more since my last post, and yeah, it opened up. Much more fun now. Got to the gameplay that made me love the Infamous games. Trying to play some Ground Zeroes too, but I'm just not quite in the mood to play a stealth game. It is SO rewarding (and I got some of that feeling), but I get a little too upset if I get spotted. I don't really have the time or patience for it right now (especially since it is so fun to just jump around in Infamous). Sure, I could play MGS as more of a run & gun game, but I really enjoy it as a stealth game. Taking your time, scanning the environment, using trial and error until you get your perfect run, etc. I'll have to play it some more to come up with a final opinion, but I really like that game so far as well. I should be able to get enough fun out of it so the $30 price tag doesn't seem so bad. Probably should have been $20 (like PS3/360), but I'm thinking it probably didn't deserve some of the hate it received.
Triple post, but yeah, Infamous definitely seems to get a bit more fun as you level up your powers (and get new ones). Some of the missions are a bit repetitive I guess, but I still enjoy them. I think I'm coming up on around 50% completion, but I think I have a pretty good impression of the game (except for where the story goes of course). It does have some flaws, and I think it *maybe* could have used another 3-6 months of polish (entirely for gameplay reasons, technically speaking it is incredibly solid). Nothing that will make you cringe (IMO), but I think it could have helped. For example, in one boss fight, the scenes and script implied that you would get *something* for using just one power (instead of multiple powers), which I ended up doing. That was more time-consuming/challenging, and much to my disappointment, my efforts were not recognized (a cutscene even pointed out how I used multiple powers, even though I didn't). It kind of feels like a game with a solid base, similar to the games by Naughty Dog, Rockstar, or [insert excellent video game developer]. But it is missing that extra bit of polish that sets those games above others. Still, a solid entry by Sucker Punch, and I'd recommend it to most PS4 owners, especially if these flaws wouldn't bother you too much. It is a great visual showpiece for the PS4, and it isn't generic shooter #35465. But if you're expecting something that will justify spending $400 on a new system, you might be disappointed (though to be fair, I don't think any single game can do that).
More and more likely that a PS4 port of TLOU will be releasing soon: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=791504 Apparently this summer. FWIW, a GTAV port is strongly rumored to be released soon-ish as well (and maybe a few other games like that). I'm hoping the Last of Us rumors are true, simply because I didn't have a PS3 -- I really want to play it and some of the other games I missed out on. I just got the last power on Infamous last night (excluding the one that you will presumably get from the Papertrail DLC/AR game), and I've had a lot of fun with it. It's not a perfect game by any means (the typical open world missions you end up doing gets repetitive), but it was definitely worth the buy and it is certainly my favorite game on the PS4 right now. I wussed out and went good as usual, but I definitely think I'll play it again as evil for the other ending. The graphics are ridiculous; I've been waiting for the animation when you drain powers to get old (it hasn't). I bought Strider as well, and beat the first boss. Looking forward to knocking that out after I finish Infamous.
I've been too busy this week that I haven't been able to play any more Infamous. And I hate that. It is really fun.
Paid $40 for a new copy even though I haven't been a fan of the past infamous games (although I did think they were pretty decent games) . However, i'm worried about replay value....
I just beat the game last night, then I immediately restarted as someone evil. I also have been doing the papertrail sidequest/dlc/ar game and I'm on part 3 of that (I'm guessing it'll be out this friday...it's episodic). (See: www.infamouspapertrail.com) I wouldn't worry too much about replay value. If you enjoy the game you'll get value out of it.
thanks. but what exactly plays out differently by playing as evil? won't it be the same thing except for different powers? what exactly is the infamous paper trail? is it something fun to do? I did some research on it (not much) but quickly got turned off once i read that it was a browser game tied into the main game.
