I keep seeing you repeat this... Is this your opinion from your expert evaluation skills or did you hear it from someone else...???
I have heard it from several NFL people And its something that corroborates what I have thought In no way am I saying he will have even have 1/2 of Montana's career, but the skill set is oddly similar
So you gave up on your previous line of reasoning? How long have we had true running QBs that could actually throw and coaches creative enough to utilize them? It's a fairly recent phenomenon for the most part. Outside of an outlier here or there in the past, it's only been in the last 3-4 years that you've had players coming out with legitimate skill sets both running and throwing. And within those last 3-4 years, one has won a Superbowl. Another has made a Superbowl and was within 1 play of winning it. Another took his team to the playoffs in his rookie year. It's pretty clear these guys are having some success, and some of the best coaches in the NFL are building offenses around them. BTW, Russell Wilson was 2nd in the NFL in carries and 3rd in rushing yards for a QB. If he doesn't qualify as a "running" QB to you, who in the NFL does? You still seem to be stuck on the "it's never happened, so it never will!" mindset and any evidence to the contrary is just ignored.
Trading down FOR Clowney is pretty much impossible, he's by far the best prospect in this draft class, the lowest he could possibly fall is 3rd and anyone trading up, will be trading up for him.
1. Kaepernick and Wilson are on extremely stacked teams, Kaep is a true running qb, one read and run type guy 2. Wilson is not a running qb per say, he runs out of necessity rather than want or play calling. Wilson is more of a scrambler than anything else
Skillset wise also Montana was a 3rd rounder I am saying either get Clowney or trade down for the mother load
Wilson also played 4 years of college ball vs Manziel's 2 years. It was clear that Manziel didnt operate much in the pocket his first year (still won the Heisman), but he visibly made strides last year, and got better as the season progressed last season. May not be Teddy Bridgwater comfortable (who also has an extra year under his belt over Manziel), but i think if you give him time to develop that part of his game, he can be pretty dangerous. If the Texans did draft him, and have BoB get him to trust the pocket, he can create havoc for a lot of defenses, IMO. On the other hand, just looking at last year alone, our O-Line was horrendous! A player like Manziel could potentially avoid a few of those sacks and extend the plays.

as much as I hate the arm he had against miss state and poor decisions, manziel definitely has the x factor. I think he is going to be a bust but he has shown enough x factor that you have to take him. I am not sure if it is worth the number 1 to find out but I am starting to lean towards saying F it and take this kid #1. F it. and I cant stand the little punk. but I mean are we going to REALLY get X% more out of any of the other guys like clowney, bortles, bridgewater?I mean are we really going to ride off into the sunset of glory with clowney? I dont think so. So I think with that in mind you have to take this kid manziel for that it. Call it bust of century when bortles or bridgewater becomes next god but unfortunately too many questions still with bortles and bridgwater. Its almost like a war of attrition with manziel winning. This is 1 of 11 picks and you have 10 more after that. you gotta take some risks and you might as well try that with johnny. You can get decent defensive line and linebackers in rounds 2-6. I am not sold on anyone in this entire draft anyway so this is kinda F it draft as far as number 1. We arent going to get a good picks offer from anyone that has anything. No point in trading down unless its super solid and no one is going to do us a solid. so manziel it is.
If Russell Wilson isn’t a running QB, then there’s no such thing as a running quarterback. He totaled 441 carries in 50 college games – 9/game. And as Major mentioned, he was second in carries, third in yards among NFL QBs last year. Also, to build on Major’s other point, re: hybrid QBs being a rather recent phenomenon – 34 different QBs have won a Super Bowl; to single out this narrow, again more recent classification of QB and hold their lack of Super Bowl championships against them is wildly disingenuous. (More so when you split hairs and deny some of their very existence, as you’ve done with Wilson.) Manziel threw more passes his final year of college than Wilson did. In one fewer game. I would be among I’m sure a very large group of people concerned that Manziel’s improvisational antics won’t succeed on the next level, so I can understand every ounce of skepticism. But the idea he’s a run-first QB, as if he’s being coached by Tom Osborne in 1984, is simply not true. He is a very efficient college passer with an incredibly large sample size (863 attempts), given just two years as a starter.
Real easy to think like this when you're not flipping the bill for the team. It's like driving a rental car because you don't give a d@mn.. But, if you feel there's no one that's really deserving of the #1 pick _ why would you think they could get a "super solid" trade offer...??? If that's the case you just trade the pick and get what you can get... Anything including a 1st round pick in next year's draft would be great in my opinion.

I am relieved he was able to showcase this. Too many times have I seen a hotshot young QB, full of piss and vinegar, stride his way up to the LOS and then look dumbfounded as he finds himself unexpectedly bereft of companions - because the darned fool forgot to tell his players to come out of the huddle Not to mention the fools who forget to where shoulder pads and a helmet. I heard Vince Young once tried to trot out onto the field to play wearing an Armani bathrobe and a sleeping cap. Needless to say, Jeff Fisher straightned him out on that one.
He's the only player to ever wear helmet and pads on a pro day. And he threw the expletive out of that deep ball.
