I like the look of Canaan. Let's see if he has some Sam Cassell circa 1994 in him. Someone post the Sam I Am big balls dance.
if you dont get consistent run on a nightly basis, its extremely difficult for someone to just come in and just light it up. now that cannon knows he has a specific role and will be getting PT every night lets see what happens from now til the end of the season
I think Canaan should start. He will be playing with vets that can calm him down and guide him. Lin is a stable spark that you can count on off the bench. If Bev struggled, Lin came in to play PG. If Harden struggled, Lin came in for him to play off the ball (I think this is his natural role). The second unit is bad as is. Id feel much more comfortable with Lin leading the bench than Canaan or DMo or Asik.
Canaan doesn't really need to run the offense off the bench. Give it to D-Mo to direct the offense from the post. D-Mo has good court vision, high basketball IQ, he's not Dirk .... but he can score on most bench post players. Canaan just needs to space the floor and play hustle D. I wish McHale would use D-Mo more in the post instead of making him a spot up shooter.
Actually, thinking about it, playing Dmo in the Noah role isn't the most crazy of ideas. Nothing wrong with playing inside out IF you have a guy who can pass and has a decent post game. DMo obviously isn't Noah, but given we have NO idea how good a facilitator Canaan is going to be, it wouldn't be bad to keep in your back pocket. And per other posts, I can see McHale monkeying around with minutes as he tries to find a balance between Lin's experience with the 1st unit and the need for offense/leadership in the 2nd unit. We'll see how much he actually staggers those minutes, or if he staggers them much at all.
canaan's D and playmaking have been very poor this season, imo. i would hope morey tries to find a bandaid veteran PG somewhere now. perhaps daniel gibson
Well he is about to get his chance. He better be ready because Lin is too soft to lead the Rockets in the playoffs. Lin will shrink like he always does.
Are you talking about the minutes he's played with the Rockets, or are you talking about what he's done with the Vipers? If you are referring to the minutes he's played with the Rockets, then I think that's a little unfair. He's only played 73 minutes total with the rockets, and that's been mainly garbage minutes at the end of games. I don't think we've seen much of what he's capable of at this point. I don't know if he will be any good or not. But, he did seem to perform well in the D-league, so I am at least hopeful that he has a chance of being a good player.
its funny how people think they've figured out canaan when you have absolutely no idea yet. he hasn't even been given a chance to play consistently and already people on here assume "he's not ready"
I agree with this. I went to the Austin Toros game against RGV -- and Daniels has the speed to stay with really quick and fast point guards. He's actually a little slight of build to play against a lot of 2's (Harden would eat his lunch) -- and he would space the floor really well. I'd rather see Daniels at this point over Canaan backing up Lin. Oh man, when i said the words "backing up Lin" I just threw up in my own mouth.
Yeah. Canaan is getting his chance. And it likely will be ugly. Trial by fire is generally painful for everyone involved. Best of luck Bev.
My concern is that even against opposing scrubs, Canaan has not show me any glimpses of anything that can bring even a tiny bit of reassurance. I am very worried right now...
One encouraging thing for Rox fans is that the organization has had a long string now of back up PGs coming through and turning out to be quality players in this league. Lets hope Canaan can be the next up and coming pg for the Rox under these unfortunate circumstances.
