Baiting? LOL You guys and your excuses. Of course we disparage the midrange shot. That's why I keep pointing out that we need 3-point shooting from our power forward. And I keep telling you that guys like Josh McRoberts would shoot 74% at the rim for us too if they were paired alongside Dwight and Harden. This all started when I made the point that the only basketball skill that Jones was better at than DMo was dribbling the basketball from end-to-end. Some poster(s) jumped on that trying to prove otherwise. They can't. Then the convo drifted to all these other great things Jones does for us that are so much better than DMo(nonexistent). We actually have posters on here that think Jones is a substantially better finisher than DMo. Seriously? And now I'm baiting???? LOL
Well, I usually just give my opinions on most of the teams at different points. If there were a thread analyzing possible playoff matchups for the Rockets I think that would be an interesting thread to read and comment in.
I want to hear about their weaknesses. You say the PF position is our weakness, so what the Spurs, Thunders, Clippers, Warriors, Mavericks, Suns, Blazers, and Grizzlies. On the East : Heat, Pacers, Raptors , Nets and Bulls. The others don't have a chance to get out of the 1st round in the East.
Dallas - road kill. Cannot keep up athletically. D-Mo on Dirk. Bev on Ellis. Howard on Dalenbert! LOL. Phoenix. Road kill. Sorry Dragic and Bledsoe fans. No answer inside. The Suns are playing crappy and the Rockets are still in the process of peaking. Memphis - Road kill. With the ascension of D-Mo and the return of Asik Memphis will be shut down in the paint. If the Griz cannot dominate in the paint they will not win many games against the Rockets. GS - Possibly a difficult match up. Only because Curry and Thompson can go off like a firecracker. Witness last years playoffs. Without blistering outside shooting GS has no chance. Portland - Road kill. This is self explanatory. Please see the relative effectiveness of the mid-ranged shot. LAC - Houston we have a problem! Match up hell. OKC - see LAC. SAS - if Pop was not the coach this would certainly be a slam dunk series. But unfortunately Pop is the coach. However this is a great possible match up for Houston in the WCF.
Speaking of Omer Asik.... Watching the Women's NCAA Tournament, UConn's Breanna Stewart can pass for Omer's lost sister..........
Somebody brought it up in the Canaan thread, but now more than ever it would be a good idea IMO to give D-Mo more offensive responsibility off the bench. Post touches or maybe even some high post. Not only do I think he's earned it, I have full confidence he can excel. We've still got 3 weeks to work on it. The bench has already been offensively challenged without Harden, and it figures to get even worse with Lin moving into the starting lineup, although they could easily stagger their minutes to have one on the floor. But back to D-mo, we've all seen how smooth he's been down low, and how the game has gotten visibly slower for him. He's also demonstrated good pass recognition. Even before the Bev injury I though we should utilize him more, but with a rookie PG, who's really shoot first it's even more of an option. I've honestly felt D-mo in the post is our best offensive weapon with Harden on the bench, and we don't utilize it.
I believe that the most important contribution D-Mo makes is on the defensive side. Offense is just a bonus. He is playing near shutdown defense since the beginning of the year.
"More TJo and DMo please", say the Griffin-less Clips. Just what the doctor ordered for LAC. I guess this is what we have to look forward to in the playoffs. Yikes.
Both guys are talented, but, man can they turtle up if they don't get off to a good start. DMo needs a lot more toughness. He goes up so weak sometimes. Jones had a poor night, too. We need more dogs on our team.
D-Mo was fine tonight, he was actually +3. Frankly he should have played more given how awful Jones was. Terrence Jones had one of his disappearing acts to tonight. Only 2 points and a -20. If he isn't finishing around the rim, he is a very bad player.
I think D-Mo is being groomed to eventually become the starting PF. He is a much more talented player than Jones. Eventually he'll become a very solid starting PF with the potential for more. He's the only guy on the team who in a year or so down the road they can dump the ball into the post and it'll likely be a basket. Right now though, he's still inexperienced in match-ups like tonight. He'll get there though. I expect Jones to be traded either this off-season or at next year's trade deadline. He has all the makings of a PF who does well in the Rockets system and then Morey trades while their value is high. See: Landry, Carl and Patterson, Patrick.
