I don't think baby VY was *this* big; he certainly was locally, of course. But nationally, I think Bush stole quite a bit of his thunder - although both were generally bland guys. Manziel's profile seems remarkably higher - though it could very well be a component of me being in the middle of it. The NFL is beholden to so many rules - and here's a kid - a sucessful, talented kid - who is very obviously flaunting rules.
nothing really stands out besides the roll out and pass. all of his long balls he throws are giant floating ducks, no velocity with no zip.
But nobody knew Favre was transcedent - and he was half the prospect Manziel is. JFF is going to arrive as one of the game's biggest stars; ESPN/NFLN will cover his every move for six straight months. Mini- and training camps are going to be circuses. And then if he's good?... Baton down the hatches.
tbh all of that media coverage isnt necessarily a good thing. One big mishap and we have a headache on our hands with nonstop media coverage. do we want to become the next great joke like the dallas cowboys
Bob is just fine having us play second fiddle to Dallas in the NFL. He's a p***y-footing owner and would rather us battlefight being playoff contenders than SuperBowl contenders.
Warren Moon thinks Blake is the quarterback with the most upside. So I guess you think he's fooled by ESPN too...
So a 6' quarterback that didn't win any conference or national titles (really only had 1 signature win his whole career), played out of the shotgun/spread, runs a 4.7 40 and won the heisman (and we all know how well heisman winners perform in the NFL). This guy is being debated about so strongly for going #1...... El O El...I give my football team's front office more credit than that and trust they will make the right choice.
I don't see Manziel falling to the middle of the 1st, but if he did and the Cowboys drafted him, I would puke.
Yeah, and McNair passed on him too. VY was the local hero and Bush was supposed to be the next Gale Sayers and we passed on them both to draft a DE. My point is that this franchise is the last franchise that needs to draft a player to "sell tickets" or what not. Like MadMax said earlier, selling tickets hasn't been a problem for this franchise with a total of 2 playoff wins in 12 years. And I don't see it being a problem for the foreseeable future no matter who we draft or who we don't draft.
As I already stated if the Texans draft Johnny it will be because of what they think he can do on the field and not because of popularity... And personally I think McNair wants Clowney which would be a big mistake.
You give them more credit than that? You must like rooting for a failure expansion team. This front office hasn't done **** in the NFL. This franchise hasn't squashed a grape in this league. 79-113 with 2 playoff wins.
Oh, I don't think it's about selling tickets; they’ll sell tickets. It’s about having the best QB in football who’s also the sport’s biggest star, a combination every single team in every single sport would line up for. This all supposes his game translates – having a big media star who isn't very good is worthless. We don’t want Tim Tebow. But that's what so fascinating... if he's good... we're talking about the biggest sports star on the planet. I just can’t remember the last prospect who came into the NFL pre-packaged as a bona-fide, top-level star. RGIII, maybe? But even his profile didn’t feel this hot.
Fans only wanted VY because he was black? How trite! Naw, I think the Texans are smarter than that. The Cows, however, are another story. Manziel is a rock star and Jerry loves the circus atmosphere and after yesterday, there are already photoshopped pix up here of Johnny Football wearing the silver star. But you completely miss the gist of what I'm talking about. I'm not implying that BoB or McNair will/are fall for the charm offensive that's underway. Rather, I'm merely pointing out the various aspects of the PR campaign being run by Team Manziel. It's first rate.
Russell Wilson also went into a perfect situation with a great running game and an amazing defense....Johnny wouldn't get that luxury in Houston.
???? I mentioned the UT fervor and the fervor that had to do with where he went to High School. I never said that anyone wanted him only because he was black.
